Halo 2 and 3 were incredibly disappointing compared to Halo: CE. Halo: CE was much better than Halo 2 & 3 in both multi-player and campaign. Reach captures the charm and spirit of Combat Evolved. Thus making it the best Halo game since CE.

The single-player is the best in the series since CE. The game lived up to their promise of having 60 A.I. on screen. I saw 40 A.I. on foot and 20 vehicles, it made me feel that I was a part of a global scale battle. Reach felt like a living, breath world. The planet was atmospheric and immerssive, it had that sense of mystery and wonder I haven't felt in a Halo game since CE. The story was beautiful. The characters were very well developed and unique, I felt emotionally attach to them and felt sad when they died. The destruction of Reach was tastefully handled, I became invested with the planet and felt somber when I saw dozens of Covenant ships glass it. They add variety like on-rail shooting, jetpack platforming, space combat, MAC guns, and auto defense. These segments were incredibly well executed, long, and fleshed out. The campaign had so many amazing set-pieces and memorable moments unlike Halo 2 & 3.

The multi-player is amazing as well. Bloom helps time shots and makes them consistent. Shots aren't random as they were in Halo 2 & 3. The maps are incredible, they're some of the best maps in FPS history. Unlike Halo 2 & 3's awful maps. Armor abilities helped make the multi-player tactical and balance, unlike Halo 3's equipment system. The weapons are incredibly well balance, and so are the grenades. Halo: Reach is the best Halo game since Halo: Combat Evolved. Do you agree?

EDIT: In case nobody figured out yet, this is a joke thread. I firmly believe Reach to be the worst in the series.

Yes.

But where did you see 20 AI vehicles? Distant Falcon and Banshee battles don't count as they're not full A.I.

The game play was great! The story and character not so much and yes I do agree reach is the best in the series.

Reach was the worst. I haven't even liked a Halo game since 2. Starting with Halo 3, the series has really gone down the ****

I love them all. i am a serious Halo fan, so I wasn't disappointed by 2, 3, or ODST. Hell, I even enjoyed Halo Wars and I hate RTS! So I agree with your praise for Reach, but I usually don't compare games that much. I like to play a game, and if I enjoy doing so, that is enough for me. I like to keep life simple, I guess.

I'd believe it tbh. Though I haven't played it yet, and I'd really like to... However both sequels really haven't been that good as far as singleplayer follow ups to Combat Evolved; and in their own right a mix of brilliant and terrible. Which makes the prospect of playing Reach all the more interesting.

Joke? Bloom is terrible and the worst addition to a franchise ever.

Halo 3 had 200K people playing up until Reach launched. Reach barely hits 200K, let alone get over 150K and the game has been out for barely three months? Best Halo? Nope. This game is absolutely atrocious. They managed to piss off both their hardcore fanbase and their casual fanbase. Nobody likes this game.

The only thing Bungie did this gen is make CoD even more popular. Good job failures..

halo reach is much worse then any other halo game. it has some of the most dull online of any halo game. has clutch for noobs such has armour lock, the melee system dosent work cause u can be shooting someone , but because of no bleed through to health they can run up to u and beat u down, the multiplayer maps are trash when compared to other halo games, and finnaly it dint have any epic feel to it or wow factor like in CE when u escape the pillar of autom (forgot how to spell), or in halo 3 when u arrive on the ark. Halo reach if anything is second last next to odst and not last just cause it has more options then odst.

online multiplayer wise halo 2>halo 3>halo reach

and halo 2 dosent beat halo 3 by much they both brought new things to the table unlike reach.

single player wise

halo ce > halo 3=halo reach> halo 2 > halo odst

thought halo 3 and reach's single player was on par with each other

and dont even get me started on how flawed bloom is. when u were BR'ing someone in halo 3 it was skill or who shot first if ur skill was matched in reach...its so random cause of bloom that the worst of trhe 2 players could win just by spamming

Majority rules? So the Wii is the best console released this gen, COD is the best game last year, since the majority voted so with their wallett.

Nah. Halo 2 was better. I thought the level design in CE was boring, repetitive and dull. Halo 2 brought a lot of variety to the mix. Hell, I almost made it through the entire campaign in 2.

Next time, instead of trying to be a smartass you should actually work on your grammar and not combine past tense with present tense.

I feel that Halo 2 and 3 had a bigger impact and with sequels of this calbur I feel thats what makes the difference. What I mean is like while Reach may look good comparing it to the older Halo games side by side it's impact on how matchmaking and the interface for many shooter is non existant compared to Halo 2 which pretty much layed the ground work. And Halo 3's the game that brought us the amazing forge and theater modes you enjoy in Reach. Reach just takes everything about Halo and improves it and what it adds, while nice(armor abilities and crosshair bloom), it justisn't near as meaningful as what Halo 2 and 3 did.

Also, I'd say in terms of multiplayer gameplay, Reach isn't much of a step forward at all. Yes, load outs, armor abilities and the new modes are great but the map line up isn't up to snuff compared to past Halo games(ignoring their dlc packs of course) and the spawns aren't as good as even Halo 3's. Reach's multiplayer is great but unfortunately it's not a completely superior experience to past Halos.

As for the campaign, it's great but I'd say it focuses too much on the characters for it's own good. The campaign just didn't have the time to really let you care too much about them, this wasn't such a big issue with Combat Evolved because the cast of main characters was smaller and the story was more about Halo than the Master Chief. However, Reach is very fun, full of great set pieces and enemy ai. But it just goes back to what I said earlier, it just doesn't have the same impact as the trilogy. Many of Halo: Reach's best set pieces are throwbacks to older Halo levels. It's a great experience but not one that will be as well remembered as the trilogy.

I'll agree with that while still maintaining my belief that Reach doesn't get enough credit for what it does.

Throughout my time with the campaign, in my first Heroic playthrough and my lone Legendary playthrough I was constantly feeling like I was playing a game that wanted to be an older Halo more than it should have been. The achievements being rarely more than just a glimpse back at a previous Halo. Though the scale, what was happening, what you where doing, and who was doing with with you was driven home much more strongly than in any previous Halo game. I felt like I was at a disadvantage every time my squad was injured (I'm being vague for anyone who has not played the game, to not risk ruining the excellent Reach story) like the odds were more unevenly balanced against me and my squad.

Reach did make me care more than any other Halo game.

Personally Halo 2 did more for me. Probably a by product of beering it and playing some coop for a few to many predrink sessions in high school but still, is what it is.

Usually when someone says "nobody likes it" they don't literally mean NOBODY. Majority rules.

You're in the minority. I think Halo 3 still has more people playing than Reach. Ya..gaem is s0o0 gewd!

N7Espi

Majority rules? So the Wii is the best console released this gen, COD is the best game last year, since the majority voted so with their wallett.

CoD is the best game last year?

Next time, instead of trying to be a smartass you should actually work on your grammar and not combine past tense with present tense.

Next time you shouldn't make horrible generalizations and instead of actually having something constructive to say you insult his grammar.

Anyway personally I like Reach's campaign more but I thought that Halo 3's multiplayer was better.

Nah. I think the franchise reached it's peak with Halo 2. Ever since things just haven't felt as fun, atleast to me. And the maps certainly arn't as great now.

I must be the only person that loved Halo 2 & ODST. In all honesty, I found Reach the least memorable of the series. I think that's because I played the beta which killed the excitement for the release. I thought Halo 3 was the best multiplayer wise, but then again, I sold Reach a few weeks after release so I don't know how far it's come, or how far it will go. Halo 3 had some awesome user created modes later in its life.

i thought halo CE sucked but reach is great and i like halo 2, 3 and ODST as well

Harisemo

What? It's easily the best in the series. I lol at people saying Halo 2 and 3 are the best. 2 had promise but bungie didn't have enough time to finish it. Reach was definitely a classic for people who loved CE. I found the game very appealing with the Elites back and the ending was just one of the most epic endings in a video game if your a fan of the first game.

IMO Campaign wise

Halo:CE (without a doubt)>>>> ODST = Reach>>>3>>>2(Could of been the best in series if they polished it)

MP

Halo:CE>>Halo 2(gave birth to console online FPS)>>>>Reach (IMO)>>>>3 (ugh i hated 3 good maps but its gameplay yuck.)

HaloCE > Halo 3 = Halo Reach >>> Halo 2 >>>>>>>>>>>> Halo ODST

PAL360

co-signed.

Look both Halo 3 and Reach are great. I'm not gonna lie. I was insanely addicted to Halo 3. The game is really that good. So when I popped in Halo: Reach I was like what the heck is this? Not in a bad way but I just felt that the gameplay was much different for obvious reasons. Just took some time to get use to it.

I just feel that people saying that reach sucks have not really given it a chance because they are still addicted to Halo 3 which is fine. But once you're able to finally put Halo 3 to bed you really do see that Reach is a great game. It's the radical changes in Reach that turn some people off at least initially but if Bungie had stuck to the same ole' stuff people would still be complaining.

Also people are making fun of the online numbers and how they are nowhere near what Halo 3 was but to me they are still good numbers and I honestly expect those numbers to climb as more people let Halo 3 go. If they don't let go oh well...

I guess what I'm trying to say is that the low numbers is not indicative of Reach being a bad game but just a testament to how great Halo 3 is as a game. The game is awesome and is hard to let go. It is also the last Halo game in the franchise to maintain the tried and true gameplay mechanics before jumping into uncharted territories such as jet packs, sprint, etc... So again give Reach a chance. It's a great game just different.

Honestly I thought Combat Evolved even in its archaic feel had more of a spark than Reach ever did. Reach's campaign just lacked any big time moments. Just felt like a chore to do some of those later missions. Also I've been able to go back to CE after all these years. I can't even honestly bring myself to redo the Reach Campaign.

I think I agree. Halo CE was fantastic, Halo 2's multiplayer is still one of the best but that damn cliffhanger maked me want to punch something, Halo 3 was, OK, not as good as the other two IMO, and Halo Reach's multiplayer was as good as Halo 2's but it didn't have a stupid cliffhanger, so it was better.

[QUOTE="N7Espi"]

[QUOTE="TheEngima683"]Halo 2 and 3 were incredibly disappointing compared to Halo: CE. Do you agree?gamedude234

Bloom is random, there's no skill in it. Sometimes you can spam 5 shots from across the map and other times you can't even spam five shots when the enemies head in in your gun. Random does not make a game take skill. Skill means the better player wins, not the luckier player. ;)

How did Halo make CoD popular? Simple. Reach blows so Halo players moved onto Black Ops or MW2. Those are the two most played games on XBL. Before Halo Reach, Halo 3 was either #1 or #2 and it NEVER dropped below. Reach dropped to third behind two CoDs while only pulling 150k people at any time of the day.

It's pretty obvious to see where the 350k disappointed players went. At this point in it's lifetime, Halo 3 was pulling 500k. Hell, it had 500k at peak hours well over a year after it released and this garbage game can't even manage to do that in a quarter of the time.

Reach is my first Halo, the first one I've actually owned and played on my own time on my own machine, and I have to say... /shrug It's got a certain sty|e all it's own, but it just doesn't feel as "right" in my hands as military shooters like Battlefield or even COD do. I certainly prefer Killzone's gunplay. The pew-pew lasers in Halo don't "feel" like they're doing any damage. It's an extremely well-designed game but it's not gonna be everyone's cup of tea.

Combat Evolved > ODST = Reach > 3 > 2

3 > 2 > Combat Evolved > ODST

Can't fairly rank Reach yet for multiplayer.

The level design in Halo:CE was repetitive and boring, tedious at parts, i honestly couldn't finish it, but did managed about half the game before droping the campaign due to boredom, so i can form some opinion about it. I guess i've ben spoiled by Unreal & Half Life.

Halo 2 improved on it, massively. Despite others, i was very interested in Halo's lore.

The MP portion of Halo: CE is were its at, very addicting, and put MP console FPS's on the map, it was influential.

But as for the campaign.. Didn't you find it tedious through endlessly repeating environments? Its mediocre..

lol what? i don't think you understand what the bloom really is. when it blooms, it means that your shots are LESS LIKELY to hit. not impossible. so of course, very rarely, one can be lucky enough to hit a couple of times. of course though, someone who doesn't spam the trigger WILL win the gunfight. Its also more realistic.

This has got to be the worst reasoning i've seen on SW. Halo players moved on to COD? COD has always been popular(unfortunately) and halo won't always be on top. Do you honestly think that half of the halo players went to COD? give me a break. I would also love to see your sources. at the point of its lifetime, halo 3 had 500K? It had far more than that. And i don't know if you need glasses, but atm, reach has 873K players. 873K>500K. And were did you get 350K from?

also, Garbage game? I'd love to know which FPS this gen which is better.

Alright, I was just going to lay this thread down. But I can't stand it any longer. This thread was an obvious parody thread on Halo: Reach. Halo: Reach is, quite frankly, the worst Halo game. I even enjoyed ODST's campaign more than Halo: Reach's mind numbing campaign excuse of a FireFight mode.

In actuality, bloom does make shots random in a arcadey shooter like Halo genius. It randomizes shots, and there's little to no timing required. There's no "less likely" to get it hit. I was trying to "time" my shots against another opponent, while my opponent was randomingly flailing shots at me at team swat. The spammer managed to get a hit at me. Bloom is one of the worst mechanics to be brought to the Halo series. Halo shouldn't have these "realistic" mechanics, because it isn't a "realistic" shooter to begin with. Bloom would even ruin other great arcadey shooters like Quake and Unreal Tourney. Don't even get me started on the Armor abilites, broken spawn-system, and the horrificly bad maps.

You like to know first-person shooters of this gen that are superior than Reach in nearly every category my dear little Halo fanboy?

Here's a list of superior first-person shooters, both single-player and multi-player wise:

  • S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl and Call of Pripyat
  • Crysis and Crysis: Warhead
  • Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Even World at War was better than Reach)
  • Left 4 Dead & Left 4 Dead 2
  • Rainbow Six: Vegas & Rainbow Six: Vegas 2
  • Resistance: Fall of Men & Reistance 2 (Okay, Reach's single-player was better than Resistance 2's, but that isn't saying much)
  • The Darkness
  • Killzone 2
  • BioShock and BioShock 2
  • Half-Life 2: Episode One & Two
  • Enemy Territory: Quake Wars
  • Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (It's multi-player crushes Reach into smithereens)
  • Team Fortress 2 (This is a given)
  • Unreal Tournament 3
  • And of course: Halo 3

It's obvious that this was a joke thread when I said Halo Reach had "well-developed" characters and "60" A.I. on screen at once. Halo: Reach is better than Modern Brokefare 2, then again, that isn't saying much.
