I know nobody actually plays Halo for its storyline but this one had quite an original promise and I was looking forward to it, knowing that all the characters and the planet itself were doomed should have led to an interesting story of sacrifice and what not. Instead I found myself not caring about any of the characters and their deaths meant nothing. On the other hand if we look at games like RDR, GEOW2 and MGS, I found myself sad at some of the deaths of characters in these.

So yea I know FPS games rarely have good stories, but was anyone else expecting better from Reach?.

Yeah I thought the story was quite good but not as good as it could have been. Only the very ending really moved me.

I think the moment the Covenant entered the game everyone's hopes of a good story went down the drain "hey, man, look. aliens." "whoa. aliens. think we should shoot them?" "sure." just about sums up the impact their arrival had on Noble Team

true. the covenant locating reach should've been a much bigger issue considering that if reach fell, earth was next to go. instead the consequences of what might happen if reach falls isn't given enough attention

yhe problem is taht you're only with them for about 6 hours, and they are hard to relate to. In gears Of war 2 Dom Losing his wife choked me up becasue i can relate to someone like him, he i more human, its easy to beleive they're struggle versus reach where you first encounter teh covenant the marines are super monotone going "repeat he covenant are on reach the covenant are on reach" is if they are giving a daily order. Their were hardly any moments were it really felt like you were in a massive battle, all you saw were dumb AI falcons floating int he air fighting banshees thats it. The game was good but the campaign really lacked that big war feeling.

Yeah they built it up to it really well, and then they went "Oh noez it's the covenant!!!" The singleplayer itself was great but the story was a big let down, it didn't feel like there were enough big moments, the only thing I distinctly remember is when they took down the huge covenant ship and then about 30 of them appeared, just because that felt like an "Oh **** we really are screwed now" moment, and since we knew the planet was going to fall anyway there should've been more of these. The worst thing though was
Kats death just because it was so sudden and nobody dwells on it, even though she was probably the most interesting character from Noble besides Jorge.
If you actually played any of the other Halo games (or Reach for that matter), you would know how effective this is as a farewell. Who cares about four generic Spartans? They are simply a medium in which you can actually experience the Fall of Reach.

I hate the fact that in order for you to actually get the story you have to read the Books and get the limited edition of the game to get Dr. Halsey's Dairy.

But as for the Game, ODST had a better story.

Actually i sort of felt emotional when you had the objective "Survive" in your screen, that along with the really sad music playing made me feel weird...

yeah, the arrival of the covenant was pretty "underwhelming" to say the least

it was just like

"lol, covies"

"lol, shoot"

just like that, no big arrival or anything,

but the very last mission made me cry, not as much as big boss' death but pretty close when that writing comes up at your visor "Final Mission:Survive"

but you already know that 5 thousand+ covenant vs. 1 guy , he's not gunna make it :(

Man, people always complain about halo's story.

Halo CE: action takes too long to build up!

halo 2: Too complicated!

halo 3: too simple!

halo 3 ODST: too simple!

Halo reach: not complicated enough!

to be honest, while reach's story wasn't as impressive as the others, it still had its moments, such as Jorge's death, and the ending.

It's not a very poor story. I thought it was decent, but was a littledisappointing. I thought Jorge's death wasa little sad and Kat's was a shock. Everyone else I didn't care really for, but Jun didn't die. It still had a great campaign.

In general you could replace Halo's characters with coffee makers and it wouldn't affect the story at all.

Loved the game, but to be honest if you asked me to recite the Halo story I'd just go blank. Humans kill Aliens who want to kill them. Yeah it's grander than that, but at the end of the day that's all it really boils down too. Fantastic game, but story was never a reason I enjoyed Halo.

The story is good, but I didn't feel any emotional connection at all throughout the entire game. At least, Halo 3's ending made me a little sad.

As a war story I thought it was very good. The battles were detailed really well, and the cohesiveness of the environments was great, but Bungie's attempts to make good characters really failed.

I felt the same way. I laughed at Bungie's ham-fisted attempts to have me "connect" with Noble team by having them take off their helmets at random times. Just because you give them a face, unlike Master Chief, doesn't mean i'm going to feel anything for them.

The game's story had a lot of potential, but the fact is that the campaign was too short for the player to really care about the characters. I'm making my second play through currently and I'm actually finding each character's death more emotional the second time around because I've actually had enough time to get exposed to them. However, the Kat's death was definately a blunder, it felt like Bungie had no idea how to kill her properly. Carter and Jun weren't fleshed out enough either.

It's true that the halo games have a bad way of telling the story, but there were always cryptic messages in the game itself, easter eggs, messages, data pads, terminals, they did give a larger insight on the game, you can't say they were not there,

It was bad considering they could have done so much more. But what can you expect its a Halo game. I did go in to the game expecting a great story in the game for some reason, but none the less the game was great, and the MP was even better.

Don't forget the Spartan 2s left MIA in the Spirit of fire and the other Spartan 3's and 2's in the Micro Dyson Sphere of Onyx.

Its quite strange that there're so many Spartans still aliveyet people still call the MC "the last Spatan" which is pretty silly.

They may have survived Reach, but for all we know they could have slipped in the shower or got stabbed on the way to the shops.

Who died in gears 2? I thought the end of reach was epic.

Doms wife It was one of the worst cutscenes in video game history.

I agree with this statement. Anyway, the campaign wasn't long enough which is why we didn't get to know the characters better. We really only got to touch on Emile and Jun, nothing more... Also, Kat's death was pure garbage, it was just so... forced?
