Halo TV show canceled after 2 seasons

Paramount+ isn't moving forward with the Halo TV series, it was announced today, canceling the video game adaptation after two seasons.

“We are extremely proud of this ambitious series and would like to thank our partners at Xbox, 343 Industries and Amblin Television, along with showrunner and executive producer David Wiener, his fellow executive producers, the entire cast led by Pablo Schreiber as Master Chief and the amazing crew for all their outstanding work,” Paramount+ said in a statement to THR. “We wish everyone the best going forward.”

Source tells THR, however, that Amblin, Xbox, and 343 Industries will still attempt to shop the series around, meaning it could still continue elsewhere - just not on Paramount+.

Dang.. never saw the show, I guess it wasn’t that great. I guess the good video game show streak has ended lol. Thoughts, SW? Were you a fan of the Halo TV Show? Do you think it will show up somewhere else?

I never saw it, but heard from some of the most loyal Xbox and Halo fans that they made some ridiculous changes to characters and the story. And if Paramount+ isn’t gonna keep it… Good luck. I guess there’s still Tubi

@ghostofgolden: I only watch S1 when it wrap up for me to marathon it. Episode 1 was great during the opening start of the show and after that, it took a massive nosedive. Some of the episodes are free to watch on YouTube...I think. Since it's cancelled, no point in me watching S2 if it has a cliffhanger. I defenitly like Tubi for watching old movies and cartoons. Tubi has most of the Halo stuff, so I can see them trying to get it and that's a big 'IF"

Next time, find writers who actually played the Halo games and get someone from either former Bungie or 343 who will be the adviser lead because straying away from the source material will make the show look so bad. There's a reason why TLOU show was on point.

Haven’t watched any of it myself. Kind of wouldn’t mind checking it out but not going to subscribe to Paramount+ to do so. Might grab it on DVD someday.

I watch like 4 5 episodes before giving it up. Terrible series why named Halo its nothing to do with it. Masterchief take off helmet killed his character. Also woke elements.

Never thought halo was all that interesting. I'd rsther see other franchises brought to cinema/TV though. It's fun. Fallout was incredible.

Master Chief was always meant to be an empty shell. Hollywood needs to leave gaming alone.

Good. They shouldve given it to Amazon or Netflix. They have a far better track record when it comes to producing adaptations.

That first season of Halo felt like a B-Tier show with a Halo skin, never felt like a true Halo TV show to me.

The actors were pretty awful, and it had a lame storyline. I was surprised it even got a second season out of it tbh.

I watched a few episodes and didn't think it was that bad. Most of the interesting story was around Halsey and Cortana, both good actresses. Would have been better as a limited series imo, not full-blown seasons.

I think if you treated it as a sort of ground-up interpretation of the Halo franchise, you might be able to stomach the series, but that is a big ask. If you went in expecting "Halo video games but live-action series" you were in for a serious disappointment.

Truth be told I always thought they should make more animated Halo shows/films, and not the anime or cheap CG kind, give me some classic animation like the X-Men 97 or Justice League or DC animated movies.

Yeah I remember when they announced the guy that played John and I was like "Who? And why?" and then I saw it was just Liev Schreiber's brother rofl.

Halo needs to be a movie. Halo as a TV show was a stupid Idea by some idiot who doesn't understand Halo even 1%. But the trend was for TV shows and it's cheaper so they did that. Never stood a chance. Make it a Big budget movie, stick to the events of the game, focus on making it a Big loud action movie with Hollywood's best in fight choreography, or don't do it at all.

@davillain: episode 1 was awesome and it even drew in non-halo fans as I roped in the whole family to watch.

But as the show went along it got more and more derivative and less and less what I wanted or expected from Halo.

I just completely lost interest in the plot. He was supposed to take care of a girl, but it had none of the charm say a Mandalorian did.

I never watched the final episode of S01. Not because of the romance but because it didn't feel or look like Halo. It was just a generic sci fi show with a 'meh' story and characters. Never watched S02

The story in the game started off good and turned in to crapped very quickly. Sounds like the same occured with the series.

Critics claimed that the series strayed too far from the source material rather than being faithful to the original.

Far from mourning the loss of a potential season three, many fans of the Halo game franchise celebrated its demise on social media.

“I watched the garbage first season.... I stopped watching. Looks like a lot of people did,” one viewer commented on Twitter.

“Paramount’s Halo is cancelled? it’s almost as if making a show about a game not for the people who like the game will backfire,” said another.

Season 1 got as much hate as rings of power, it was everywhere, that's why i dunno how you could've missed it.

I heard season 2 was better than Season 1.

Either way, it is clear to me that Halo is no longer MS's biggest IP. They have Minecraft, Forza, Todd The Liar and even Age of Empires has made a resurgence.

Yeah not surprised. It was very poor. There is the constant sense that it was originally written as something else then they mapped Halo to it in the last minute. It's not even stuff like MC without the helmet. That's stuff not a big deal in the grand scheme of things. But it just wasn't a good show to watch and the Halo stuff added nothing to it. Poor characters, poor story telling, questionable effects, 1 decent fight scene in the 2 seasons. Decent cast but there is not much actors can do when everything else behind the scenes is not really working.

Honestly: Watch one of those "Halo the movie" youtube vids. More entertaining.
