Halo Wars will be good for the RTS genre. I can see it recruiting a lot of new folk the same way Halo brought a lot of newbies into FPS.
I more concerned about Ensemble making RTS "work" and putting out a good game rather than how much it sells.

Thats because 360 doesn't have a mouse. Just no way you can manage hordes of unitswithout one i.e. Supreme Commander. Ensemble would have to model the gameplay around that. but thats why I mentioned they have to make it "work"
There's so much hate against RTS games, right up until the day Halo Wars is announced. Now, it's being hyped up like a tornado. World Of Warcaft is lame - until the day World Of Halo is announced. If this happens (which, somehow, is possible) it'll sell like hotcakes.

Yes lets ALL pass judgement on a game that is in development...

Mages with colorful robes or MJOLNIR Mark VI Battlesuits?Gigas_YuuReading that sentence in or out of context, I think both are equally nerdy, possibly even with Halo taking the nerd crown there. Take it just as 'yeah, I play Halo and shoot my friends online' is something everybody does. Calling it a Mark VI anything transports you into robe-and-wizard-hat-land.
If anything, I think it'll be a qualty game regardless of its title because the devs don't have to catter the game for PC as well. Even if it is good, it'll have to compete with other strategy games coming next year for the 360: SupCom, EndWar, UaW: Earth Assault, Civilization Revolution, Kane's Wrath, World in Conflict, plus Halo Wars.
Yea...you heard that right. All these strategy titles coming next year for the console!
I have hope for this game
Microdoft is pretty good at one thing, Halo has been hyped since day 1 on the original xbox, and no matter what anyone says, it has always done well in sales, and scoring from respected sites, in other words, it has always met the hype, I would hope this would be no diffrent, we will see, but Microsoft has a great history with the Halo Frnachise, i8 doubt they would jepodise that
I don't think Halo boys will buy, at least not a good deal of them, RTS don't go well with them. It probably will sell to those interested in the Halo lore, but I think it only extends to a certian point when it comes down to the general individual.
cant agree more with the topic, im thinking of a bet saying that halo wars will get AAA, and I havent watched a single gameplay video or seen a single screenshot of it, i only know its a rts with HALO in its nameKoba123
Everything you just said is exactly why that opinion is stupid.
World of Warcraft is lame because the mainstream relates fantasy to nerds. Sci-fi isnt as hardcore nerdy as fantasy elements are, unless you're talking Star Trek or Peter Jacksons socially acceptable Lord of the Rings ( which is hated by most of LOTR book readers).
Mages withcolorful robesor MJOLNIR Mark VI Battlesuits? If there was a World of Halo I'm sure it would suck despite my love for Halo. Halo Wars will get my money because it further expands on the universe. I've always wanted to hear an alternative AI to Cortana in the Halo universe instead of just reading about them in the books.Gigas_Yuu
Uh-huh. So War of the Worlds was set in modern day America instead of 1990's England. What a crap film...
Hardly, Ensemble is one of the best RTS developers out there (I've heard those Age of Empires and Age of Mythology games are pretty good) and games like C&C3 and BFME2 have shown that RTS's can work on consoles. Now considering those two games were merely PC titles shoehorned in to work with a gamepad, I am confident that Ensemble can make an even better RTS (both C&C3 and BFME2 were AA titles mind you) considering Halo Wars is built from the ground up for the 360. I'm not expecting a Starcraft or Company of Heroes quality, but I'm sure Halo Wars will be a great game.PBSnipes
wait wait, you've heard? You mean you actually didn't play them?

How? Despite what people are saying starcraft 2 is going to be a very good RTS. But will it innovate? Thats yet to be seen.
Your thread is unoriginal and thoughtless, I can sum up exactly what you did before you hit the submit button and that was veiw the other, larger multiple "Halo Wars" threads on the front page. I call that, The System Wars Copy/Paste syndrome.
What makes you qualified to compare this game to PC RTS' ESPECIALLY since it's 6 months away. No were on your XBL profile do I see CnC3, BFME or BattleStations so Im curious as to were your pulling criticism when you haven't had past experience with similar games or are you just being fanboyish, going with the gist of things. I think this is a clas-sic case of invalid opinion.
PS. You gave Assassins Creed, Ratchet and Clank a prime 10? Talk about diminished credibility.Pro_wrestler
it won't work
you cannot, i repeat, cannot, play an RTS without a mouse and keyboard.

People said the exact same statement years ago conserning FPS, but then companies like Rare and Bungie proved it false.
Chris Talyor seems to think otherwise as GPG is making SupCom work on a console. For example, Strategic Zoom takes one of the biggest challeges in the conversion to console and makes moving to any part of the map near effortless.
Ensemble are great devs, they can deliver.WuTangG
They were a great developer...until AoEIII.
As the RTS genre goes thus far, there are only three names to rely on: Relic, Blizzard and Chris Taylor. Everything else requires at least a demo and a week for reviews to flow in before you swear by their quality.
[QUOTE="subrosian"]Well what should they have called it - "Crap Wars: the unending boredom"? A good name is important.Taalon
I know exactly what you meant, and I simply consider that good marketing. Ensemble's a solid RTS developer, the Halo universe is decent (they stole from the best - Disc World, Starship Troopers, etc...), and it's a popular series. As Bungie originally envisioned Halo as an RTS, even the "perversion of the series" arguments don't hold water.
So what is the complaint?
"OMG how dare they call a Halo game Halo in the title!"?
Any RTS gamer knows what this will be - a combat-focused RTS somewhat like C&C3 simplified ("streamlined") for a controller and equipped with several LIVE modes. It will be too "watered down" for the micromanagement junkies, but unless they pull another AoE III it should be an okay game. I doubt it will live up to any great expecations, but then again Miss Havisham is a *****.
