You can do 1080i on the 360, and you have been able to since launch. :| What you mean is 1080p. But no, you don't need HDMI even then.

1080p is possible on current 360s. Or do you mean that the image quality will be better over HDMI vs Component/VGA?

Rofl 1080i is slowly becoming obsolete.  Chances are Halo 3 will be in 720p just like the majority of the other games out for the 360.  HDMI will help, but unless the game is native 1080p, it isn't a necessity.

You only need HDMI for 1080P you effing idiot. Get your facts straight before you make a damn fool of yourself next time.

No, you don't, 1080p is possible through Component, your HDTV just has to beable to accept a 1080p signal through Component, I have one that does.

You don't even need HDMI for 1080p. I don't know where this "HDMI is necessary for 1080p resolution" idea started, but VGA has been able to output resolutions superior to 1080p for years.

"True HD" and "Total HD" are just marketing terms. What you speak of is 1080p. And you can most definitely get 1080p on current 360s.

The Image quality. Ask any A/V Nerd and most of them will agree that 1080p is pointless unless your TV is bigger than 57 inches. it has to to with the resolution scaling. if its not, 1080i and1080p are indistinguishable on smaller sets.

What he means is 1080p is not worth it without HDMI. Its like getting 5.1 surround speakers then listen to radio on it. Maybe not that bad, but its kinda like that.

Its not useless, but if your a penny pincher, 720p is ok. The big thing is is you need the p, progressive scan. but Id say you could see the difference on a 40' or bigger, i mean, im no huge TV guy, but why is the res not that big of a deal on a tv, but when you would like 1080 on a 30' moniter it would be unplayable.

Perhaps, but that's not the issue here. The TC is saying that 1080p is simply not possible on current 360s while it quite clearly is.

Yea because an offscreen shot we would be able to tell. And what size is that, 32'? You wouldnt tell the diff between 720p and 1080 that little.

Im just repeating what i keep hearing on all the A/V forums and from my technophile cousin who works for panasonic. theres no point in worrying about 1080p unless your television is atleast 57 inches. if it isnt 1080 is just fine (belive it or not,it does look better than 720p)

You can tell because it has the component signal designation in the upper right hand corner above the "1080p" in yellow.

I disagree. HDMI looks much more washed out than component.
