I hear allot of this and its simply not true. Nintendo was simply unwilling to change and address the regular gamer it for the most part continued to cater to the little kids and family type games. Hardcore gamers never abandoned Nintendo because Nintendo never was for the hard core gamer and never will be.

Take a look at its last 2 systems N64 and GC, N64 was LOL and GC was just as bad because they were stubborn and never wanted to go far beyond the E rating. Nintendo was never for the regular gamer above the age of 15 and has pretty much ignored this market altogether so you can't really abandon something that has ignored you.

nintendo 64 had some of the greatest games of all time...and most hardcore gamers of today were like 8-12 in that era who loved playing goldeneye and mario kart 64...

the gamecube had some gems as well but came out last and got buried under the ps2's hype and huge game library...not to mention the gamecube was purple and shaped like an accessory for girls...that doesn't help your marketing to hardcore gamers...

but any true gamer would give props to both the nintendo 64 and gamecube

wii...well lets wait and see...besides the zeldas, mario's, and metroids there isn't much else in terms of epic experiences...

Nintendo was never hardcore? Are you seriously putting that out there as a real opinion?

Did you just start gaming in the last few years?

PS1 kicked the crap out of the N64 and is about 100x better system, PS 2 and xbox kicked the crap out of the GC to the point that Nintendo had to repackage the GC with a new controller in hope that it would sell.

first of all...duh

that doesn't mean that the 64 isn't legendary in terms of classic games and genre changing experiences...and the gamecube had its gems...but hell i owned all the systems last gen and the xbox i only used for sports games because it had the better graphics...ps2 and gamecube were way better than the xbox in terms of quality games and experiences

I've owned every Nintendo since the NES. I loved the cube but only bought 6 games for it. I don't own a wii and don't plan on buying one for a few years. Mario galaxy is the only game I want to play and I haven't seen any footage of anything else I want to play on the wii.

I would just stop because the more you post, the more you look like an illogical fanboy which makes people care about your opinion so much less.

The N64 was awesome, the GC was pretty lame, and the Wii...well lets not even go there.

 I love your avatar. It makes me think of a typical (not casual) gamer that bought the wii and then watched the E3 conference.

Are you serious? I hate what Nintendo did with the Wii, but it'll be stupid to call both the N64 and GC junk systems...

wow this is a pretty one sided argument here, gotta say, I consider myself a hard core gamer, started playing games in 82, I've owned dozens of consoles, spent thousands upon thousands of dollars on games and have to say Nintendo has, generation after generation been my favorite, and therefore the best in my opinion, the Wii is no exception, the DS is the best thing to happen to gaming nough said

I actually loved the N64, and would plunk down for a Wii if a few key titles landed on the Virtual Console, JUST to play them again. I know it was a pretty dry system, but back then I could only get a few games a year, as a teenager. It also, thanks to four controller ports, enchanced multiplayer. I know I give the Wii grief, but the N64, I have a ton of nostalgia attached to that one.
