Does anyone else think this would be a really cool game? You create a student, get sorted into a house, take classes, do small quests, play quidditch, explore the world of Hogwarts, search the Forbidden Forest, discover secrets, visit Hogsmeade, during summer shop at Diagon Alley andlive at home and explore your hometown for the summer months, and even assist the main characters of the Harry Potter story? I think this would be really great. Does anyone have suggestion or thoughts? I was thinking it could be on 360 and cross-platform with PC.

Harry potter will be dead after the last book. So, no it'd be a waste.

1. The book's not out yet.

2. The game would not necessarily have anything to do with Harry.

3. There are still two movies left.

Well, at least someone has given mea little support. I expected some more. Also, I was thinking that there would be no monthly payments.

there would probably have to be monthly payments. And yea doesn't sound bad, i like the idea. Just have a set amount of hometowns soo you'd be living in a hometown with a bunch of other people online. Tha'd be pretty cool.

That's a surprisingly good idea. Being an MMO the game would probably have to have monthly payments, The only reason Guild Wars gets away with this is by releasing standalone versions of their games every eight months.

Realistically speaking, if it was ever done it would have to appeal to all ages, and would probably be made by some terrible dev and end up being a terrible game, but the concept is still good :)

If my fellow GSers approved, I was going to send this in to EA. Or not a good choice? I mean they would probably have to make it because they made all of the Harry Potter games.

Yeah I assume EA has all the licensing rights for video games for Harry Potter. It's worth a try! Only problem is by sending an email to EA, it probably won't get to anyone that matters.

As good of an idea your idea is, 99% of licensed games suck and will continue to suck because the developers rely far too heavily on name alone to put any effort in areas that matter.

Remember how Bully classes were? They could be like that, or like the classes in the Harry Potter PC games of Sorcerer's stone and Chamber.

Here's my pitch:

I am writing to you as a loyal EA and Harry Potter fan with a request.

As of late, MMORPGs (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games) have been very popular and I have an idea that could make EA games some money and would be very enjoyable to the public if done right.

My idea would be to have a Hogwarts related MMORPG. The player creates a Hogwarts student,
is sorted into one of the four Hogwarts houses, take magic courses (these courses would be similar to
the ****s from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone/Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
in which the player goes through a series of trials involving whatever spell or potions they would
learn in that ****, do small quests for staff members or NPC students, play Quidditch, and explore
the world of Hogwarts and discover its secrets (including the Forbidden Forest, Hogsmeade, and
the greenhouse area). As with reality, time would go on, and characters would develop along with
the rest of the world. There would be weather and time changes. The days would go on and the
players would all grow up over their years and Hogwarts. Summer would eventually come, and
there would be a number of hometowns for the players to return to and live there for the summer
months with other players from their same town. Once they went through all seven years at
Hogwarts, the player would let that character graduate into the magical world and create a new player.

This game could not be restricted to only PC and support cross-platform play with the Xbox 360.
Monthly fees might also have to apply for PC players.

The main paragraph was just a basic premise that I am presenting to you
for you to work with and do whatever you want with it. I hope to you consider
creating such a game, as it would not only earn you money, but satisfy Potter fans around
the world. Please consider this and thank you for reading this letter.

On paper, it's a great idea... but in reality, Harry Potter appeals alot to kids. Kids in a MMORPG usually means alot of liability. It would have to be very very heavily moderated.

I'm sure that was part of the reason why Quidditch World Cup never had an online component.

EA and Origin were working on Harry Potter MMORPG, but it was canceled and Origin was closed down. But honestly? I think it would flop, MMORPgs are made for more hardcore players, when you take franchise popular among casuals and make it into MMO it doesn't work

As much as I hate games based off of licensed material, a Harry Potter MMORPG would actually be a decent idea. The only thing would be the lack of PVP. In the books, the only form of this is fighting beasts, the badguys, and Wizard's Duels, which even then, wouldn't be that much. Also, they'd have to make some kind of system where each of the different houses excelled at different things. Gryffindor good at Defense Against Dark Arts, Slytherine excel at potions (Snape), etc. or else it'd be boring since on a technical basis, all the houses are pretty much the same.

Still, if it was implemented correctly, each of the houses were unique, and a decent PVP system was created, I think it would actually be a pretty decent game.

Huh. I read the title. And ignored it for hours. Then I read your post.

I hate MMOs, which is why I avoided the thread. But, I like your idea.
