Initially ugly and onwardly dull, Too Human, in its present form doesn't so much suffer an identity crisis as give a knowing nod that it's simply not very entertaining. What other reason could there be for the poor script, laugh-a-minute voice-acting, and protagonists so poorly modelled and lip-synced as to be singularly unable to imbue its plot with any degree of weight.
Scenes are overplayed, the simple story is overcomplicated with fluffy, nonsensical dialogue, and the whole thing has been put through the beginners sci-fi workshop just a few times too often. Spectacles may only be worn if they emerge from the wearer's temples and feature matrix code pouring down them, seeing a colleague in his office is accompanied by a trip halfway up a mountain to a floating hologramatic platform, and nothing moves uncloaked in neon, nor accompanied by sound that goes pop, whizz and bang with science.
And then there's the gameplay itself. Almost totally linear and little more than a twin-stick shooter with levelling up. But, said levelling is made utterly redundant by the fact that your enemies level with you. There was a reason why this system was used in Oblivion: the designers allowed you access to the entire game world right from the off. But in a game like Too Human, which involves mostly running blinkered through the drudgery of hundreds of identical enemies, it serves no purpose other than to make the obligatory faffing with the latest item drops feel like an obligation rather than a pleasure. Too Human is, sadly, not looking promising. But then, in a game that was originally designed for the PSone, what were we all expecting?
pretty harsh !
As I always post when I hear a negative preview for Too Human:
"Based on what we've seen so far, Hour of Victory is looking like a promising WWII first-person shooter. It has a pretty solid foundation, and the character system should add some variety to the experience and keep things interesting."

so far as I've been aware, there is no "B" score. everything stops after A, because nobody cares about your game if it can't score at least that.http://blog.x360magazine.com/?p=87

[QUOTE="Couth_"]Anyone still hyped for this is probably setting themselves up for dissapointment.EuroMafiaIndeed. The max I see this getting is 7.5being a bit generous, aren't we?
i hope it flops .. then maybe SK will scrap plans for a trilogy and work on Eternal Darkness 2!
the nintendo curse strikes again
RARE, Factor 5, Silicon Knights were great devs under nintendo, but now that they've left, they can only produce flops (perhaps a bit harsh, especially for RARE, but none of the devs are having the same success as they had under ninty)

well they have to do something to keep you interested in a game up until the review. otherwise, people wouldn't care to tune in for the review, dropping their potential ad revenue. So previews that don't speak glowingly...that should really tell you something.

Err... so you're saying that previews overstate things?
Then this is even worse.
But we already knew that gaming journalists were of -- at best -- questionable integrity, ability and intelligence.well they have to do something to keep you interested in a game up until the review. otherwise, people wouldn't care to tune in for the review, dropping their potential ad revenue.

At the same time, so did the Penny Arcade people and the Gamespy people, and they are generally known to not sugarcoat their previews. Indeed, the Penny Arcade guy is regarded almost as a god over at NeoGAF...

maybe it'll be a love-it-or-hate-it game.I can see it getting 7's or 8's in some places, while getting 5's and 6's other places.

I see Assassin's Creed all over again-I see a 4.5/5 ish from Gamespy and quite a few others (including IGN, assuming anyone but Hilary does the review), but really bad scores elsewhere.

So is Too Human :P
Hence the fact that I think it'll have similar reception-some people appreciate what it's doing, but others don't. It's all a matter of tastes, I guess. If I had the time I would find the previews, and know up front the comparison I'm making has more to do with what I see as coincidence then anything else.
Much like T.H. - Halo CE had the same LONG ride from RTS to FPS - from PC to 360.
Many of the previewers of Halo CE, before Xbox launched voiced many concerns about that title to the point where shortly before the launch of the original Xbox - these pro's lol in the field of gaming had sorta written off Halo CE and globed upon Dead or Alive as the real deal for the new system ( Xbox ).
Boy were they left speechless when the retail version of Halo CE hit the street !
Me hoping for similar results here and think the two devs, - Bungie & S.K. share a bit of the same philosophy.
Hold on tight guys & gals b/c this thing is going to get crazy on August 19th and me can't hardly wait ! :D
PS: If it's a dud, nobody will be more disappointed then me er umm maybe Dennis, S.K. & MS as well. ;)

Quote: "I'm missing the argument, by the way I always thought Halo and Xbox were pretty much synonymous before launch... "
Certainly when MS bought Bungie, but the point your missing is the previewers.
Before Xbox launched in 2001, the previewers were not all that thrilled with Halo CE ( Shhh - from what Bungie let them try ) and were picking DoA & PGR as the best of the launch, that is right up until the completed games actually hit the street.
That's all I am willing to say - If T.H. Bombs - I'm gonna be very disappointed and you can call me pwned b/c I don't care - nuff said.
Wow, I did not know enemies leveled with you, that may make me not buy the game. I was gonna buy it even if it scored relatively low. Now I'm not sure, I hate that feature, hated it in Oblivion too. rolo107
They don't level with you to the same extent-the lesser beings will always quake in fear and die very quickly when you enter their ranks, and this'll occur even more so on subsequent playthroughs-even after the leveling. They may level with you, but they don't level either as fast or as effectively as you do.
As I always post when I hear a negative preview for Too Human:

You're kidding yourself if that preview is supposed to mean that Too Human will be good.
See the warning signs. This is 360's Haze/Lair.
Wow. People comparing this to Halo CE have a huge bundle of disappointment on their horizon. Let it go before it's too late. This game should have stayed vaporware. It is one thing to have borderline previews, it is another when people claim that a Non-Disclosure Act "violates (their) human rights"

The preview is one example of how gaming journalism is a farce, to the point where I'm actually less hyped for a game when it recieves an extremely high score (9.5-10). It doesn't mean Too Human will be a great game, but it's a prime example of why previews are meaningless. As for Too Human being the "360's Haze/Lair", I suppose that depends on what standards you judge games by or whether or not you care whether or not a game "flops". For all I know Too Human really could be as bad as some previews have made it out to be, but from what I've seen and read about the game it looks like a quality experience. Worst comes to worst I save myself $60.
If it scores a "A" and like L.O., for me turns out to be one of the best games this gen. - me = Happy and you can be happy it flopped but I get the better deal on that one as I'll be playing a game I love and you will only enjoy SW a little more for a few dayzzzzz - it's all good ! :)Wow.
