I haven't played the third one yet, but the first two were the closest games to terrifying me. I'd also like to add the Fatal Frame games; those are very eerie as well.

It's on my list of games to buy - along with re-buying the Fatal Frame games - but they're all growing increasingly hard to find in stores. I might have to resort to the internet to find it at a reasonable price.

Fatal Frame 1 and 2 are the only games that I actually was scared of playing, for 3 reasons

1. I hate ghosts

2. The rooms where often quiet and had a feeling in it that made you want to turn off the console

3. Little asian girls scare the hell out of us

Honestly, I got very uneven one time when I first played F.E.A.R. 2 and walked into one of the bathrooms... I think it was only in the game's demo, actually. I walked into this one bathroom and I opened up the stalls... I wasn't expecting anything, but when I opened the bathroom stalls, the main door suddenly slammed shut and the lights went pitch black... Of all things, that freaked me out in the game. I was expecting something to pop out and freak me out, and that just made me feel creeped out. Ultimately, I finally realized nothing else was happening so I just exited the bathroom -- but man, little things like that can get me more than having aliens or freaky little girls popping up in my face every couple of minutes.

It's only $20 at Gamestop with no shipping, and I just happened to check and see that there's a copy about ten miles from my college.

OoT was nightmare fuel when I was 7 years old. I still remember dreaming that a Redead crawled up from under the floorboards outside my room, scuttered over to my bedside on all fours, and started gnawing at my face. I did a thorough search of the area where he came out for scratch marks or trap doors. Good times.

Fatal Frame.

Bioshock to an extent. There's several occasions where the game will send a shiver or two down your spine.

Slashkice

If you don't mind ordering online Game Quest has the entire trilogy new for $99.

That's for the link, but further investigation revealed to me something amazing: the same Gamestop seems to currently have all three of them in stock used, and they're only $20 each. Getting the trilogy for $60 is a steal!

When I was younger and Metal Gear Solid had not even quite been released yet on the PS1, I had a disc with a demo, and the sheer tension was terrifying to me at the time.

Not really.

Silent hill 3 is extremely terrifying said for the some of the monster.sAnimal-Mother
SH3 was not that scary compared to the others. Most of what makes you run scared is the fact that there's an excessive number of monsters thrown at you. The school and those children>SH3 monsters.

Silent Hill 1-3, Fatal Frame 1-3, Siren (the first one)... They've all scared the crap out of me, and I bet if you spent a few hours with them alone in a dark room, you'd say the same thing.

First Fatal Frame kinda freaked me out too.

I don't know how anyone could be scared of silent hill 3, unless you're scared of bad games...

The Fatal Frame games were pretty scary. The scariest game I've ever played is actually Demon's Souls even though it's not really meant to be a horror game. It wasn't just the atmosphere but also knowing that if you die, you'll really be punished. It makes you fear for your life.

Clock tower 1, 3. Fatal frame 1, 2. Only two horror games I felt were terrifying. All the others were generally jump out scare action games.

Yeah I was piss scared of those Penumbra games and Clive Barkers: Undying. Oh and that Hotel in VtMB was unexpected... didnt think I would be scared in an RPG. Silent Hill 1/2, Fatal Frame 2 & System Shock 2 had me stressed throughout the experience. A few scares in Call of Cthulu as well.

Yeah. It's a shame that so far COP hasn't been able to emulate that, but I guess I'm used to the Stalker style of horror now :P
