I have been thinking about this as of late. COD series which was extremely popular (not good) during 2007-2011. then slowly slowly people stop talking about it compare to back in days. we know this year infinity ward COD coming out but no one actually talking about it. barely peoples talked about black ops 3.

With the Rise and Return of Old school FPS like Doom and shadow warrior 2 releasing this year. do you think COD popularity almost dead?

I'm not gonna say almost dead, but definitely not as big as it used to be. People still get hyped up for when November comes around and then a few months after that, it's just collecting dust.

COD being almost dead is like saying the USSR still exist. It aint happening. Now it defiantly isn't as popular as it used to be though.

You all do know that there were 2 Call of Duty games in the top ten sales of 2015 Right? It's almost like the people in this board live on Mars or something.

@lostrib: BLOPS 3 was number 1 and AW was number 10. 2014's COD outsold MGS V, The Witcher 3 and many high profile exclusives.

Considering the only games that can beat COD in sales are GTA games I'd say no.

I think people are getting sick of all of the futuristic Call of Duty games. I know I am. And it is not just with Call of Duty, pretty much every FPS over the past few years has been futuristic which has made the future warfare setting feel as stale as the World War II setting felt a decade ago.

I think now is the right time for the Call of Duty series to shake things up and return to World War II. It has been about 8 long years since the last time the World War II setting was used in a major way in a major FPS plus there has not been any on current gen hardware, so if the next Call of Duty returns to World War II, I think it would feel like a breath of fresh air, create a lot of buzz, and be the best selling Call of Duty game in many years.

I think it's still popular, although not as popular as it once was.I think Call of Duty has lost a lot of it's appeal. It's mainly the same game made over and over with each passing gen with just a upgrade in graphics and larger multiplayer maps.Nothing much more.I did not buy Black Ops III simply because it's the same piece of sh*t game it was year before and the year before that one and so on and so on....... Never planning to buy the series again until they revamp the Call of Duty series.

It's anything but dead.

Unfortunately, it seems to have become a traditional Christmas present for me. I do wish there was a better annual game release that the general public knew about.

Yeah enough with this futuristic stuff. Many people don't like MW3 for some odd reason but I think it was very good. It was gritty and made you feel like you were in war. Black Ops 2 had bigger maps but it was just more "colorful". MW3 had a more realistic approach if you ask me.

LOL well put. I play by the rules here but some of the questions that are asked or the assumptions being made are hilariously out of touch with the reality of this business industry.

I feel like the majority of this board needs to get out of their basement from time to time. Nothing they "believe" reflects the real world. It's almost sad really.

Nope. And you better hope that it doesn't. Because the instant the Maddens, Fifas, CoDs and other yearly franchises lose popularity with the 'casual' gamers then this industry contracts back to the olden days and it will be the beginning of the end of gaming as it stands now.

Pretty much. Those yearly franchises are what keeps these platforms going and allows us more hardcore gamers to keep the lower selling and expiremental games.

COD is declining a bit, but it's gone from 20+ million a year 15-17 million a year. Still by the far the most dominant IP other than Grand Theft Auto.

It's actually in a slight decline now. From like 25+ million in the past to anywhere from 15 million to 20 million now.

The olden days ?

That sounds really good

- No more early access games broken as hell
- No more selling us games in pieces
- No more 20GB day one patches
- No more abundance of DLC and microtransactions in full priced releases
- Creativity > profit

Take me back please *_*

The olden days would be awesome in some sense. But I mean more like console sales will shrink to next to nothing. And since it won't be profitable anymore, console makers like Sony and MS will either quit consoles altogether, or become streaming services in a attempt to get those casual sales back. The only console maker will be Nintendo, and 3rd parties will either build their own platforms on PC like EA and Ubi, or some will fold. I can see Sega/Sammy closing doors.

In the end, Nintendo and console gaming will be like a White Dwarf after the Supernova of this era of gaming. Still kinda there, still emitting a little light, but far from the glory it used to be, until it finally gives away and collapses on itself and is no more.

According to "LOL VGChartz" it's already at 20 million copies sold on 5 platforms, plus probably a ton of unaccounted for digital PC sales. Seems like it's doing fine, even if the last game was a Titanfall without Titans.

That has absolutely nothing to do with what was being said. Quit being a drama queen. It doesn't matter how individual and superior you are because you hate popular stuff. COD being dead is still a silly thing to say because in fact it isn't.

According to sales the series is far from dead.

I don't get the hate on the series. It's a game with a huge user base and die hard followers. If follows a formula that works for its genre and it does a great job at it. I don't play it as much as I used to but I see the appeal with the games. Although I like the idea of splitting up the game and making the online portion a seperate and cheaper purchase. Hopefully the steam sale does well and makes this an option for future cod games.

I would buy day one if I could just pick up the online portion.

Anyway. I think it's a great game to play with a group of friends or when you just want a fun multiplayer fps to play.

Nah, it's actually on an incline. In fact, it is breaking sales records in the UK right now.
