Has cod4 ruined online gaming for you?

I remember there were tons of games coming that we were all supposed to get, like assassins creed and kane & lynch. Even though both of these scored below expectations, normally i probably would have picked up both (like i did with stranglehold), but cod4 is so addictive, im not even interested. I literally have no interest in any game period at the moment, let alone mulitplayer games.

I know there are a lot of multiplayer (multiplat) games coming on ps3/360, but im not looking forward to them nearly as much as before. I love the levelling system they have, and every game needs to copy it, unfortunately 90-95 % will not. Hopefully socom will and rb6 already had a similar thing.

Best bits: There is nothing more satisfying than killing the guy that killed you (last stand). Also levelling up system and unlocking weapons. Size of the online community.

Best kills: (i) Killing someone far away behind a wall by guessing where they are (you know they're in the room, but not sure where).

(ii) Killing someone (with an assault rifle) so far away that your not even sure if there's anyone there.

I've only played the demo but Call of Duty has always had amazing multiplayer. The "kill-cam" is an awesome addition to multiplayer shooters.

I hate the leveling up, nothing worse than dying because the other guy has more free time than you do and not because of skill. There have been far too many times when I've died at least partially because I haven't unlocked the ACOG scope, or overkill or some other perk. Also the leveling system hurt the gameplay, I know I've been playing below my skill level because I've been too worried about leveling up a weapon to get the extra experience than winning the game. I know my best weapons (depending on the level/situation) are the M16, MP5 and Dragunov but I've been using other, less effective weapons because I want to level up. I will get more points going 15-10 with a AK47 or M249 than I will going 20-10 with an M16 because my M16 is fully upgraded (exept for the last 2 expert levels, which are a pain in the ass) and I have 1750xp to unlock just on the marksman challenges for the AK47.

the kill cam is old as hell. it was in the FIRST cod

wow u must really suck. im only at level 22, yet ive beaten out every guy ive seen that was already at level 40 - 50

i never lose. ive only ever not been the mvp in exactly 4 games, no joke

The PC version did. I think the original COD had it too. I have a question guys. I've had COD4 for a week and finally got on Live. I'm a level 16 gunnery sergeant (I think). How do you level up individual weapons? Just by getting kills with them, or do they level up when you level up? Thanks in advance.

Yeah, I haven't had this much fun on a console MP game ever, and the last time I had this much fun in a MP game period was with SOFII back in like 2002-2004. Yes, I have an ancient PC that would laugh at me if I tried to install Crysis.

guns dont "level up" all u can do is unlock extra attachments and paints for them. and u do that by completing the challenges allotted to that weapon (which can be viewed in the barracks)

You only watch the kill-cam if you want to. You can click through it and instantly spawn.

I personally don't really see what's so amazing about Call of Duty 4's multiplayer. I've played it for a couple of hours, and, while fun, it's basically a run-n-gun kill fest full of grenade spamming. I can see myself losing complete interest after another 10 hours of playing. CoD4 made me understand why Valve decided to put in the long respawn delay and to ditch grenades.Einhanderkiller

i once got a double headshot with deep impact

then theres the time, on vacant, i killed this dude, and he dropped a live granade (martyrdom). so i quickly picked it up and through it down a random hallway, and i got a triple kill. total luck, but it was cool

Nothing better than 97% of your deaths occuring because of wrong place wrong time!*Watching on the persons screen the time you turn around a corner they at the same time turn and happen to see you and kill you, all chance*

Walking around corners only to be blown up by claymores!:)

All your teamates suck so your the last one alive being jumped :)

Shooting someone then their teamate coming out of nowhere and killing you :)

Grenades...RPG's...etc.... by campers or poeple who run away and throw them at you!:)

People running away when shot, then coming back and killing you :), if you go to them, their teamate out of nowhere comes and kills you....

etc... the list goes on...this game is a camping/explosive fest that takes no skill...

As for losing to higher rankings, my point was there are some very powerful weapons and perks available to the higher levels, particularily the overkill ability (which gives you 2 primary weapons). So if I'm using, say, an M16 and fighting an opposing player with overkill and using an MP5 and a M14 I am almost always at a disadvantage. Thats not to say I get killed every time (I tend to win my gunfights) but just because another player has more free time (and therefore can level more) he has a distinct advantage over me, regardless of skill.

I agree...they used to have something similar in battlefield...and removed it eventually, after they realized it completly removed the role of the sniper...and many other roles....

The spawn times are actually only around 10-15 seconds in TF2. It's no Counter-Strike.
