Has FF finally been beaten?

WTF Dragon Quest has been killing Final Fantasy for years. And in Japan DQ always outsells FF. Play DQ VIII it blows FFXII away. Oh wait but most non hardcore RPG gamers don't know that, so....Dencore

Is it time for Final Fantasy to step aside for new JRPG's?

(Note: This DOESN'T include Western RPG's like Mass Effect. Totally different type of game)

the xenosaga trilogy is better than any of those RPG's

a shame people dont appreciate a good story anymore.

as far as FF games FF7, and FFX are the best games in the series and are also better than all those 360 rpg's.

Chrono Trigger and FF7 remain the best rpgs of all time and can't be beaten by the looks of things, rpgs seem to have gone stale since the beginning of PS2.. I liked FF12 but not for its storyline, just its gameplay but even that wore off after a few hours of playing it, felt like a MMORPG grind fest after not long. FFX was ok but it left me wanting more it was too short and felt different from the previous FF's. I might check this xenosaga series out but seeing as I live in the UK probably wont sell it here and really it looks like just another half a$$ed sci-fi rpg to me and the low scores on gamespot don't do it any justice but then again gamespot like to underrate and overrate games..

Lol, of course not b/c what we've seen of that game already owns every RPG we've seen announced for the 360 with the exception of Mass Effect... That's really the only one on the 360 I have high hopes for... but the fact that it's modeled after a shooter and Bioware disappointed with Jade Empire, still has me skeptical. It does look like it will be much more epic than their previous games though.

Lost Odyssey has the highest chance, Blue Dragon looks okay too.  Eternal Sonata doesn't interest me, but my favorite game will always be FFVIII.

Seriously though, FFVIII? That's the undisputed lowest point in the series for me. VII and IX were both way, way better for the PS.
