The infamous RRoD that plagued the 360 and spanned for over 3 years since its launch has caused M$ to loose billions to straighten out and kept under control. My question is, has M$ ever fully recovered financially from that debacle?

Just curious and not trying to bash it.

Yes.

It cost them a little over a billion to implement the 3-year warranty.

Same way people still view Vista as "Unstable and unsecured"... The stigma will never die even if the necessary steps have been taken A LONG TIME AGO to fix the issues.

So they created the RROD on purpose in order to sell more units, and yet instituted a 3-year full rpelacement warranty for the RROD which cost them over a billion dollars? Wut?

Nope they never did. Microsoft had to file for bankruptcy and even Bill Gates had to move in with his parents because he could not afford rent,

Dude, did you just ask for a link to disprove your claim? You made it, it's common debate practice to actually cite information.

Actually I made a statement as exadgerated and baseless as Kuiramans. Maybe people should take stuff for what it is then actually asking for links most of the time specially on things that are obviously so out of whack they aren't seriously debate material but cannon fodder to piss off and make fanboys look like idiots by giving a reflective asinine statement that shows their statement as the stupidity that it is.

I already posted regarding Kuraiman's post. I didn't feel the need to post information that was not backed up. I took it for unfounded conjecture on your part. Exactly how I took Kuraiman's post.

Undermining an individual's point isn't going to work if you use equally unfounded claims. It just makes for one ridiculous post-chain.

RRODs were by the worst. ;)

Nice try.

DREs didn't happen until much later, after constant use.

MS still hasn't even officialy declared PUBLICLY what the hell the main causes of RRODs.......to this day

DRE's were known to happen out of the box, were never fixed EVER they existed into and onto the slim ps3s up till the latest itteration you can purchase for 99 dollars Since the DRE debacle happend at a time when the internet wasn't nearly as full of the casual users like it is today we have far more reports of RROD then we do of DRE when it comes to online communities.

Actually it works on a consistant basis hence we have the sarcastic phrase of and im the king of france..etcit works double duty not only showing disbelief but in an attempt to make the original speaker feel foolish for any claims they make. But remember when another person posts you cannot post as well that person has already said it all. Its not my fault quite a few people couldn't see that My statement was exadgerated tripe and was meant to be such.

Probably, considering how long the slim has been out - they make a significant profit on each one sold.

Not to mention all the overpriced accessories (*Cough* hard drives *cough*) sold for the 360.

Fair enough. I see where you are going now.

Unfortunately, it's hard to dictate tone through simple text. It simply looked like you were trying to debunk what Kuraiman said with similar conjecture.

Both?

Considering how much money MS makes from XBL Gold subscriptions per year, I'm sure they're doing just fine.

That, and they even offered a 3 year free replacement warranty. Him saying MS did it on purpose to sell more units is asinine.

It makes perfect sense. That way they could sell more units which puts them on a better position on the eyes of their stockholdres. It's the same strategy they use with Windows. They release a not so good beta product like Windows Millenium or Vista people fall for it and buy it and find out it is crap. Then they release the finished version but in the meantime they have sold much more product and strockholdres notice that.

Why would people actually buy a replacement 360 if the warranty covers the full repair?

Many people did, not everyone used the warranty since you get a refurbished machine that could easily break again. Many people just got a new one with the new more reliable models. Furthermore in many places, like my country, there is only one year warranty.

Define "Many people" and then prove it. I have no doubt that certain people purchased newer 360's, or multiple 360's. Implying a conspiracy of this with no actual proof is a little ridiculous.

Certainly a plausible reason, but do you think a sufficient number of individuals would do this over simply shipping and waiting on a repair?

[QUOTE="woodenfork21"][QUOTE="p4s2p0"][QUOTE="rasengan2552"] same here. went through three 360's in 2 years. 2 Elites, 1 Arcade. I still have a Jasper chip 360 but I'm too afraid to play it.

Me as well, I lost interest after the original xbox. We got a slim halo reach 360 for free it has broken twice in the year we have had it and that is with very little use.

you to huh? broke twice in a year...but didnt decide to use the free warranty...weird? especially since u barely use it. coulda sent it in n not thought twice about it. these two guys don't think!

hello dumbass ! I sent mine in each time, and they all got e74. The second Elite lasted 9 months total.

[QUOTE="Adamantium4k2"]

The infamous RRoD that plagued the 360 and spanned for over 3 years since its launch has caused M$ to loose billions to straighten out and kept under control. My question is, has M$ ever fully recovered financially from that debacle?

Just curious and not trying to bash it.

Keep Under control? I... What? Billions?

Exactly. They only lost $1 Billion & have most likely recovered it by now.

they recovered the money but the damage has been done. They could have had this gen wrapped around their finger but their reputation was dragged through the mud. That costs them more than the money spent on their warrantee

Amazingly, although they shouldn't have gotten off so easily, they have. I don't think people even really think about it much nowadays.

Yes....the new models don't have this problem anymore.
