ReCore flopped. Scalebound canceled. What other Japan games does MS have? D4 flew totally under the radar. I really can't think of anything either except Valkyria Revolution, which is a real head scratcher there. What do you think, SW? Has MS totally given up on Japan?

Probably... no matter what they do, I can't see them competing with Sony or Nintendo there. So why waste money on it...

@hrt_rulz01: Came here to say pretty much the exact same thing. Only so much you can do before you have to give up.

They have always been done in Japan. I don't think Microsoft needs to waste any energy in that region.

Yeah why bother with Japan, sales are still massively declining for anything not mobile phones anyway, consoles will be as relevant as gaming PC soon.

Some would argue they gave up last gen in Japan after Lost Odyssey flopped there and failed to make people buy the 360 in Japan. All their attempts to get Japanese devs and gamers onboard since then have been lol-worthy at best.

Well basically with Xone they wasted everything they have done with 360 and the fan base which they built the, and now they are back to nothing.

Japan is a such a small island with a small market place. There are plenty of products that are not even available in Japan but continue to thrive. The Xbox brand is one of many brands that does not necessarily need Japan at all to thrive. But even if Japan is such a small island with a small market place, there are some great products that comes out from there. So I assume exporting products from Japan to other markets is better than trying to import products in. It just doesn't work out too well no matter what the outside brands are. Fortunately the Xbox brand is globally known and in homes around the world. The Xbox brand is thriving, that's all that matters I assume.

I don't think this is that bad, I mean japan is such a different culture and some games don't really appael to me as a western european. It's not that I have anything against the japanese, but some games just cater the japanese crowd a lot better, since it ties in better with their culture. So it would be nice xbox invest more in games that appael to me more (more legends on fifa for instance...)

Still sometimes a game is so good, it really transcends this barrier, like dark souls.

I just hope that one of these games isn't a sony exclusive, I was a bit dissappointed I didn't have bloodborne on the xbox though but I was never interested in scalebound.

To be fair, Japan sticks to their own. Microsoft didn't have a chance.

If Europe and the US were the same, PlayStation and Nintendo would be memories.

If they haven't, they should. It's a waste of Microsoft's resources to put any effort into Japan when Japanese gamers obviously don't want anything to do with Xbox consoles.

Japan is a small market that is rapidly losing interest in console gaming in favor of mobile gaming anyway and the 360 has already proven that Japan is not needed to be successful. Microsoft would be wise to not waste anymore resources on a lost cause like Japan and instead focus their resources on the markets that are more open to the Xbox brand.

More like give up the whole Asia. Asia is dominate by Japanese games so one reason why Xbox will not beat ps in worldwide.

Na I think they will always sell consoles there (well try to) just to keep a foot in the door, but being successful in Japan as a console maker is no where near as important as it used to be.

@aigis: with a year head start and PS3 pretty much beat 360 every year in world wide sale. So that is how it caught up at the end.

I actually purchased my first Xbox because I was sick of how many games Japan with held from the west. They used to treat the west like a second class citizen.

Here you go. Add to that all the poll data that shows an overwhelmingly lopsided bunch of figures of FFXV being sold on PS4, and ignored on XB1. Go over to Gamefaq boards and ask Xbox One users directly for even further proof of them not getting it.

MS gave up on Japan and vice versa since the original xbox, they kinda tried for a second run with the x360 but failed again.
Japanese tend to buy 3ds,vita and a PS4 as main home console

More like Japan didn't even give xbone a chance. Japanese people are smart consumers. Crap like the xbone has no chance there.

They did, though I'm pretty sure that ended before the 360 was half way through its life span.

Not only was MS always at a severe disadvantage over there, but with the console market in Japan drying up so quickly, why would you continue to try? It's a lost cause.

I'm pretty sure the only reason why MS occasionally does try to get Japanese games on their system is to appeal to people in the west who enjoy those games.

Here in Europe the Playstation brand dominates the home consoles and a lot of people also prefer to game on PCs. A lot of families also buy Nintendo for their kids. The Xbox now is kinda selling good in the UK, but even there Sony still outsells MS.

I'm working for Amazon and I can always see that for every 10 games that are shipped, 6-7 are for the PS4.

Wait, is it 2010 again? lol

Anyway, yes and for good reason, no sense throwing more good money at people that will never give'em a fair shot.

I say good riddance, the US replaced Japan as the gaming capital of the world more than a decade ago. USA, USA, USA!!! :P

Wouldn't say they gave up, Japan never gave MS a chance. Other than Apple, no American electronic company has or will have much success in that market so why keep wasting money to appeal to an audience that's not willing to spend money on your product.

In all fairness, the Xbox brand was never alive in Japan but worse is that Japan gave up on home consoles which hurts Sony and Nintendo much more.

Aren't consoles on the decline overall in the Japanese market? Of course, MS would be the first to disappear. The Japanese mobile market is really taking a chunk out.

I really do not see the point for Microsoft to cater to the Japanese market if hardware and software sales are poor. It should leave and focus on markets that are more profitable.

Selling the Xbox in Japan is like Hillary Clinton campaigning in a deep "red" state like Utah. It is a lose-lose situation.
