I picked up Mario Galaxy last Christmas and played it for maybe an hour, the camera made gameplay difficult because every level was a sphere and the camera didn't adapt to this, it was the first game to ever make me motion sick in 22 years of gaming. Also 20 minute unskippable cut scene intro.

Skip to this year and I got a 3DS XL. Mario 3D land is just a Mario 64 knock off where they removed punching to give the Tanooki suit a purpose now they removed its ability to fly (so why isn't it just the cape from world if its just for gliding?). Also cut scenes you can't skip before the game and between each world..

New Mario is ridiclously hand holdy. There are easy paths where they give you god mode and remove any chance of dying. Its possible to get 100+ coins in the intro area to underground levels and basically by the end of the the first world you have 20+ lives stocked up as they didn't balance the extra coins they give you against the lives mechanic. Also every time you do absolutely anything you get a goddamn clapping sound effect, like you have to be applauded for everything or you will feel bad for collecting 8 red coins.

The 3 latest Mario games I played have all been garbage. Is Nintendo really losing that safe bet game? You used to always be able to pick up a 1st party nintendo game and know it would be decent, yet right now I think any new Mario games are going to be utter garbage and almost insulting in their over reward mentality.

Mario U was pretty lame.

Mario 3D land felt like it was held back, but fun.

Mario Galaxy is among the top 3 greatest games ever created.

There's actually a pretty vocal minority that hated the game lol. Off the top of my head, Blabadon, whiskeystrike, and khoofia_pika all seem to dislike the game intensely. I can't for the life of me understand why. It's such an incredible game.

under your recommendation, i downloaded pushmo (pullblox) and ive been enjoying that a bit.

3-star'd all the 50cc in mk7 and thats about it lol.

Briefly touched RE:R, but being the P&SSY that i am..i stopped playing it after 8 minutes (will get back to it after i finish some other games though lol)

Kid icarus, havnt played yet and same with OoT.

Just havnt had much time this past week to play much. But ye, really loving the games.

Basically all ive been playing are games which dont have a story to playthrough (just pick up n play). But that will change soon.

I came here expecting a ****** thread. But you actually make sense. However, this IS system wars, and in SW, anyone who doesn't says that SMG 1&2 are godly games with no flaws is either called a troll, an idiot, or a person who hasn't played it. I didn't liked SMG, none of the 2, I beated 1, got the other to 50% or so, and I dont consider them as great games, they are at least 7 in my book. but ofc the sheep at SW cant take this, so they call me a liar, tell me that I havent played either game and what not. you get used to it.

Yeah, Pushmo/Pullblox is awesome in short bursts. But you've got some quality games right there. Glad you liked M3DL (although 3 starring 50cc in MK7 is so easy, man up and do it in 100 and 150cc :P) Yeah, the 3DS hardware is good, nothing special. It's the games where the system really shines.

It's not just caring about money, they are making the games the fans want. The reason Mario games sell millions is because their are millions of fans who look forward to mario games. Personally I rather they make more games, but not at the cost to sequels I know and love.

I completely disagree with you on the 3d Mario Galaxy games, but wholeheartedly agree with you on the 2d iterations. The latter severly lack a soul and the innovations that made the 2d Mario platformers iconic. You didn't even touch upon the awful "bah bah" music of the New Super Mario Bros series. I honestly think that the "New" title, is mandated otherwise people would think it's the exact same game...which it is.

It's the mario cycle...ofc it's gonna sell a lot of copies. Little kid in the 80s Get a NES Get Mario Love it because you really dont have standards in gaming (and there is nothing better either) grow up another mario game comes out You buy it because you remember you loved mario when you were a kid. you love it because you are blinded by nostalgia you have kids. You show mario to kids. Kids dont have real standards because A: they are kids and B: they have never played videogames before. kids love mario. The cycle repeats itself. And ofc there is always the control group, the 1%, who plays mario for the first time when he already had videogame experience and who hadn't heard about mario before and he still likes it. but this is a small minory. other than that, yes im sorry but mario nostalgia plays a huge role on the success.

Nintendo does play it pretty afely with softwarem relying alot on Mario, Zelda, Pokemon for profits. Can't exactly blame them though since they get f*cktons of $$$ from those IPs, and the games from these series are almost always good to an extent.

And atleast they'll sprinkle in an occasional different IP, such as Kid Icarus, DKC, Punch-out, etc.

There a reason other than nostalgia why they normally score so well or even get GOTY. Saying that mario games success is nothing other than nostalgia is being blind to how good the games really are. The Wii U is a blast playing 4 player NSMB with the family. You fall into the same trap as any of those who don't play Mario games you blame the success on nostalgia alone. If that were true then so many of the IP I knew as a kid would still be successful. Does Nostalgia have something to do with it, yes. But a game can only go so far on nostalgia look at Crash, Contra, and double dragons as examples.

And it would be nice if Nintendo could think up other world themes other than grass, desert, ice, water, poison jungle, mountain, and sky.

I actually have no problem with the NSMB games sharing very similar gameplay; I don't view it much differently from how the Sonic genesis trilogy shared pretty similar gameplay or how the DKC SNES trilogy shared pretty similar gameplay. but atleast genesis sonic and the DKC series actually add in different settings and new soundtracks to spice things up and differentiate the titles in some way.

Hell, even Galaxy 2 had a decent amount of new music, as well as Super Mario 3D Land...

If you tell a lie this early into your post then how do you expect me to read the rest?

Trolling is something you ease into man. You cant be so heavy handed and direct up front. Build up some believably, try to ground your complaints in reality as to generate some serious discussion and then once you have them hooked you go for the kill with all the nonsense and BS. You go full dumb ass from the jump and you lose out on the real bites.

Remember. Start out like you're only slightly an idiot. Dont blow your load all out once, but instead try to crescendo into a waste of society. And never get mad.

Follow these simple rules and you can troll anyone.

Good luck.

You go full dumb ass from the jump and you lose out on the real bites.

Remember. Start out like you're only slightly an idiot. Dont blow your load all out once, but instead try to crescendo into a waste of society. And never get mad.

Follow these simple rules and you can troll anyone.

Good luck.

He is not "trolling"... This is system wars the point of the forum is bashing games and systems. What he said was hyperbole and exaggeration of the level design. He is not being literal.

You say tomato. I say bullsh*t.

Not my first rodeo son.

Well personnally, I loved every bit of SMG, though halfway through SMG2 I started getting slightly bored of the recipe.

Right now, I'm having a blast finishing NSMBU, unlocking secret levels and getting all the star coins. Can't see anything wrong with that game, but to each his own I suppose.

I hear what you're saying. They're not bad games but a lot of the issues you've raised are genuine imo.

TC?

Topic Creator. they are accusing you of being Casual for disliking a lazy entry in one of the most over rated franchises in gaming.

No, TC is an idiot who never writes their own threads and copy/pastes them from other websites. Look how easy it was to find the original.

I repeat yet again, TC is an idiot.

Obvious copy paste job.

But seriously, to call SM3DL a SM64 knockoff is just lolworthy. Different mechanics, different structure, different take on level design, different goals, different focus. The only real similarity is the IP.

[QUOTE="tarzanell"][QUOTE="charizard1605"] You liked Mario 3D Land? :Dwhiskeystrike
Did anyone not like 3D Land? It was amazing! 8.0 my ass.

I didn't like. Very lazy game

Agreed 100%

the only recent mario game I'd say they were lazy with was NSMB2. All the rest of them were legit

[QUOTE="HarlockJC"][QUOTE="lightleggy"][QUOTE="HarlockJC"] It's not just caring about money, they are making the games the fans want. The reason Mario games sell millions is because their are millions of fans who look forward to mario games. Personally I rather they make more games, but not at the cost to sequels I know and love.

It's the mario cycle...ofc it's gonna sell a lot of copies. Little kid in the 80s other than that, yes im sorry but mario nostalgia plays a huge role on the success.

Like I said, there's always a small control group who likes the game regardless of nostalgia. and you cant even compare the nostalgia from mario with the nostalgia from crash, contra, sonic or double dragon. none of those games were as popular as mario, and mario is older, from a time when people didn't had videogame standards.

How do you know TC didn't wrote that? I copy paste my own threads and post them in multiple forums, sometimes I even translate them to another language.

Contra was rather large for it's time. What kept Mario current is good sequels. Look at gamerankings the number 1 highest scoring game of all time is SMG and the number 3 is SMG2. NGMB as a score of almost 85% on gamerankings. There more than just nostalgia behind these games, they are really good and high quality games. As long as Nintendo keeps up the quality of the games there will always be people who want more like myself. So again I really would love to see Nintendo make more new IPs as long as they do it without taking away from the quality I come to love from the Mario games.

Has Nintendo stopped being a "relevant" game developer? TankBusterJenn
Yes, yes they have. I can't think of the last time Nintendo made a game that got more than just a passing glance from me. Nintendo's IP are tired old boring IPs and Nintendo hangs onto them for dear life.
