Every commercial for Beatles Rock band I see has the 360 version shown with 360 logo. Does Sony not even try to promote the fact that its not a 360 exclusive?

I was watching the Beatles Anthology last night on VH1c and at every commercial they break had a beatles Rock Band promo presented as being on the 360 (never said exclusive, but I never saw the PS3 logo).

Well, Sony isn't know for heavily promoting games. You'll see a commercial here and there, but beyond that, nothing.

For real...I hope they put heavily promote God of War. That's the type of game that could really attract the crowds. If they did something like put that trailer where Kratos fights on Gaia and the world tips over, that would be great! It might be a bit much for TV, but it could fly at movie theatres.

From the opening of its E3 press conference, MS made it clear that they were willing to heavily promote TB:RB, and I'm sure EA/Harmonix are only too happy to see some of their advertising subsidized by someone else. It's actually a fairly common practice, so I don't think it's a very big deal. Preorders of all 3 versions are among the top among all games, so I don't think there is that much confusion among customers at large.

Nope. Michael Jackson had the rights of most of The Beatles music. I suppose they now belong to the Jackson family.

I thought MJ sold over 200 of their songs to Sony, no?

If I understand it correctly (it's rather convoluted, and I'm certain someone will correct me if I'm wrong) but I believe Sony/ATV own the publishing rights to a little over 150 of the 250+ Bealtes songs. But owning the publishing rights doesn't actually carry much power. For example, they cannot control where the music is played, or decide if a cover of a controlled song can be made for example. They simply profit from the use of the song. So it isn't like Sony could bar the use of The Beatles music on a Microsoft console, but they almost certainly get a cut of each copy sold on any console.

MJ bought a large collection of music, including the Beatles songs in question. That company was later sold to Sony, with MJ recieving stock in the merged catalog.

Sony/ATV Music owns 50%

A few years back MJ used his half as collateral for a loan he took out with Sony I believe.

Not quite sure what the postion is now though.

I found this by googling for a more clear answer. After reading, I was only slightly less confused than before

I think the biggest thing I learned was that the actual recordings of The Beatles doing their tunes are owned by EMI Records and the Beatles own company, Apple Corps. So when you want a Beatles song sung by The Beatles, you'd be dealing with them, but Sony/ATV would be getting a cut down the line.

Just like GH5, TBRB is the same rehash as last year's RB.

I thought Sony/ATV only had the rights if you wanted to record a cover of a Beatles song. EMI owns the recordings that are performed by the Beatles. So if it is the Beatles performing their own songs they get the money from it. Sony/ATV only gets the money when it is a cover of the song or if they include it in advertising. So yeah Sony/ATV probably would get money from this since it includes Advertising.

Considering this is the 3rd game released by Harmonix since they were bought by MTV and Activision's 5th or 6th game since Guitar Hero 3 (released around the same time as Rock Band 1) I'd give Harmonix the credibility of quality over Activision any day.

I agree also This game isn't a Rehash they added Three-Part Harmonies in this game which will be big in my family since almost everyone except one person wants to sing in the game.

Also what other game can you play 50+ Beatles songs.

Agreed, but why is MS doing it?

unrelated, but....

Have you seen the MS commercial where they encourage a couple to go into a big box store (obviously Best Buy) and shop for PCs over buying a Mac? One of the laptops they look at is a Sony Vaio. It mightve been the one they chose. ZZZing!

I haven't seen any commercials for Uncharted 2, Demon Souls or Ratchet and Clank yet. Haven't even seen any PS3 Slim commercials.

Today was the first time I saw a Wii Sports Resort Commercial they probably had them before but I didn't see them. All I see is commercials for Beatles Rock Band but that is on VH-1 Classic and VH-1 is owned by Viacom so is Mtv.

MS is doing the advertising for the same reason they had all those 360 Madden spots. The casual consumer has no clue what games are on what system. If a parent wants to get their child a game in one of the MS spots they're going to buy a 360 and the game because that's the system the commercial said it was for.

For MS, it's a heck of a lot cheaper then developing or paying for an exclusive.

Sony is backing other third party games such as Batman: AA and Madden 10 which all have the PS3 logo at the end of commercials.
