maybe the first few games, but most of the series games i dont think so. this gen its just been completely outshined by mario, and quite frankly it will be very hard for any developer to create a critically acclaimed 3d platformer now thanks to the Galaxy series.

I'm not too sure if it left any impact. That's not a bad thing. Most games don't leave an impact.

They didn't leave an impact. they came out, were very good titles and that's it. Considering that is the number 1 thing a game should do I think its fine.

I don't really like its insane amount of sequels in such a short time. But apart from that it seems a pretty good series.

Surprisingly, the games have been solid even if they come out rather frequently.

I would say its left a neutral impact its not done anything new or innovative it just did well what had been done on the ps1 and n64 days.

Actually I think it's pretty unique. I mean it isn't really a 3D platformer as action and combat is it's main focus, however, I also wouldn't feel right calling it a third person shooter either. I mean, what other game is like it?

I thought they were pretty solid games, but I still think that both Jak and Daxter and Sly Cooper were better.

Yes it has. When someone thinks of platforming, one would automatically think Mario, but everyone I know associates platforming with Ratchet & Clank as well. Ratchet & Clank is one of the most popular series in gaming. I don't think there is anyone that doesn't know what it is. Ratchet & Clank is one of my favorite series and ever since I've played the first one I though "Wow, now this is an action/adventure platformer!" The series even has some RPG elements in them and the most notable and memorable thing about Ratchet & Clank is the ridiculous assortment of out of this world weapons you won't find anywhere else. The series is a blast to play and should have very well left an impact in the gaming industry.

There was a game on ps1 that played almost exactly like ti 3d platformer with action shooting as its main focus I cannot remmber the name but Bruce willis voiced the main character and would shout out things like kill em all let god sort em out when he killed masses of enemies. then you have the Jak and daxter games, banjoo tooie when started turning into a shooter but that game had a load of different genres. about the only innovative thing were the weapons but there was some whacky seeking weapons in the ps1 game I mentioned..ratchet and clank did better what had already been done in my opinion.

what the hell kind of argument is that? why bring COD into this? he never mentioned COD, and he didnt say he didnt like R&C, just he doesnt like the amount of games that gets released. he even stated 'but apart from that it seems a pretty good series'.

Like most games,I don't think the R&C series has left a good (or bad) impact on the industry. But few games do. They're solid platformers/shooters that most people overlook, but that doesn't make them bad games. And to backpedal a bit, I think they're among the "try this out" category of games for someone who is building a PS3 library. There definitely aren't any other collect-a-thon, shooter-focused platformers on the market right now that can hold a candle to R&C, that's for sure.

I personally liked it, It was all about killing people and doing puzzles Ratchet and clank is all bout using whacky weapons and doing puzzles and the like. as I said Its not that ratchet and clank isn't good its that its not innovative its been done before ratchet and clank just does it quite a bit better then some representations of past versions of that type of gameplay.

My biggest complaint about Ratchet and Clank was that I just never found it particularly memorable. I played it, I beat it, I forgot about it (and as A Crack in Time demonstrates, I sometimes skipped straight to the last part). You want to know a game that I did find memorable: Sly Cooper. The first Sly Cooper game was terrific.

even if they are repetitive and unoriginal I do love them, the personality of them really makes up for their problems

However, I think it was on the verge of becoming almost mario quality and popularity (sales at least of main games) during the PS2 era, but only because we saw one mario platformer, that was Sunshine. We saw multiple R&C's.

But now we have two GOTY matieral 3D Marios, and two 2D Marios since the Wii and PS3 came out, and I really think while the Future series have been good (I forgot about Booty, but most consumers did) that the PS3 User base's hasn't helped it. Its just not as big as the PS2's was, I think Sony could've done more to help the IP take off this gen, but for some reason it feels like an also-ran.

Also, the platformer in the series have never been as challenging or inventive as Mario Galaxies. Honestly, I would love to see a Ratchet designed by Nintendo's Teams. I feel like the actual platforming in Ratchet is just between point A and point B, where the combat takes place, where as Mario's actual platforming challenges have goomba smashing in between

The combat is the highlight of Ratchet, whereas the platforming is the highlight of Mario games

I can't say Ratchet has left on impact on anything, except giving me loads of fun

I think Jak and Daxter was a superior IP. That said, this new Ratchet and Clank looks really appealing to me. I love co-op platformers, and the new 4-player co-op action looks intriguing. Hopefully they suceed in making the game fun-- I will definitely do a bargain bin purchase if they do.

I hear this a lot. This may make sense for an art, but not for a business. Game development may be both in a sense, but when a title seems to have money making potential left in it, you squeeze it. Simple as that.

I'd say no but thats not a bad thing at all. All the games on consoles bar Deadlocked and Quest for Booty have been excellent games. Ratchet and Clank 3 espically.

I don't know, but the series just keeps getting better and better (but seem to be scoring lower and lower:?). And a long while back there was a thread where some people in the gaming industry talked about the best games on the ps2 and R&C was mentioned by alot of them.

I'm not sure they've made any REAL lasting impact on the industry but the games have been a lot of fun. Admittedly, for me the R&C series has primarily been a nice way for me to fill in my gaming life with something a little bit on the lighter side. I play a lot of the more serious titles so R&C is a nice way to break things up.

I've played almost all of the series and I'm actually starting to feel it's getting a little stale. I just finished a Crack in Time and though in many ways it's a great game there's just too much the same in it for me to consider it a real knock-out addition. Overall, the Future trilogy was a lot of fun and the next gen graphics were incredible but I feel like it's time to reinvent the series some how. ???

Like someone already mentioned, the Galaxy series has really stepped it up and improved the aging Super Mario series in some remarkable ways. I feel like the R&C series needs something like that but, honestly, I'm not creative enough to know what that might be. lol

I've loved R&C but I'm definitely going to be more cautious with the next games.

I wouldn't say Ratchet and Clank made much of an impact at all in the game industry itself but there are certainly many gamers out there that will fondly remember the series. Especially the PS2 era games.

They are great games based on their scores, never played any of them, but they look good.
