Has there EVER been a system with hardware as bad as the 360?

I mean seriously, I remember my PS2 had a few issues, so did my GC and disc errors, and my NES had trouble with cartridges sometimes. But never have I experienced hardware as bad as 360s. Red Rings of Death, Disc Read Errors. It's ridiculous.

No. It should've been on the recall list.

My buddy went through an entire stack of Dreamcast games, I guess alot of the first shipments were defective. He kept going back to Wal-Mart and exchanging his games until finally one day they worked.

Not even close. Fanboys will  PS2, but thats a lie. Sure the PS2 had it's issues, but not on the same level as what the 360 is dealing with.

o come on 360 fans stop voting for the ps 2 we all now that sony was not forced to but a 3 year warrenty to cover there butt. if the ps 2 was this falty it would have been all over the internet from day one like the 360. put your fanboy aside and vote 360 yes it has great games but the fact is no console is as bad as the 360 ever.

My PS2 broke twice, the first time it was the disc tray (wouldn't read and made a horrific grinding sound.) And the second time, when they sent it back, the port for the second controller was broken, and that one did the same thing as my last ps2 four months later.

No. I can't think of a single piece of mass-market consumer electronics with quality control issues comparable to the Xbox 360 that hasn't had a major recall.

And whoever said PC can step right back down, because while PC components have a higher failure rate than most consoles, they don't even come close to the 360. It's had reputable estimates putting it at close to a 16% fail rate - even if the actual fail rate is only half that, around 8% or so, it blows everything else out of the water.

I can't be sure on that one. I personally knew a good deal of people with PS2s that died in the first 18 months, myself included, but I was never able to find an official count. Just like Microsoft is doing now, Sony wouldn't release the truth. We'll never really know for sure.

in the end people have got to drop the bias and realise the 360 problems are not nearly as wide spread or bad as fanboys want you to believe.

I have 2 360s pro launch and elite and neither have failed, I have an wii *it has failed a few times but came back to life for me* and i have an ps3 and its never failed once.

I've had 5 ps2 since launch one had bad DRE regardless of what i did *used disc cleaner indorced by an sony tech, used the lil screw half turn thing in the lense assembly...ect* at no time would sony take the systems this was in the early days, Eventually id just take the system back to the store and get another, upon my 3rd i finally got sony to take it and fix it and it came back working, then the lense assmbly died completely *one of those bad laser assemblies of which i do believe sony had like 500,000 in recall one year*

My 5th slim ps2 works fine and has for about year and a half.
Ps1....problems cant read disc...ect I went through 3 of them.

Gamecube never had a problem once it worked and worked infact...still does...long after i took the case apart and forgot the case screws it purrs without a case.

Snes never a problem sept a dirty connector which was easy to clean with a nail file, NES? same thing cleand with nail file, genesis? never a problem, Dreamcast? never a problem, Saturn? my first one failed and got a replacement from sega.

Problems occure and really the supposed 1-3% failure rates are all speculation and thats a fact many people have problems with systems throughout the years, not every one has a problem and some do, its the same for all the systems.

P.S: but i do say the ps2 and ps1 we're the ones that failed the most on me, but once i got to the slim line revision every thing was fine...but it makes you suspicious because ps1 and ps2 systems have had like 10 revisions each....

No there's never been anything even close to that unreliable and cheaply made. But imo since the hardware is still powerful that doesn't matter nearly nearly as much as Nintendo prettymuch rereleasing the ancient Gamecube hardware in a new case and turning a massive profit by overcharging for it.

I'm not fighting this battle again with all the DRE naysayers, but the ps2 problem was worse to this consumer anyway.

My launch 360 had to be fixed once, I had to repurchase 2 new ps2s.

also the sad thing is about 90% of those ps 2 failures could have been fixed by taking two things off the ps 2. disc read error was due to the laser track thing being dirty. it took me ten mins to fix my ps 2. only if sony jump the gun and got that info out before every one bought a 2nd one.

360 has really pushed it on the unreliable scale. And it does it best. Not even PS2/PS1 had it even remotely as bad.

Yeah, PS2 DRE wasn't a major design flaw. Just some shoddy engineering in the early consoles. The Slim virtually wiped this problem out, along with the later PS2s. Of course, it was around this time in the PS2's lifecycle that DRE went away for the most part with newer consoles, the question is will Microsoft get rid of RROD..among other problems, to be honest. I've had a DRE for my 360 and the cheap ba...chaps at Microsoft doesn't cover this in the extended warranty and I had to pay for it to be repaired.

I got a PS2 at launch, and it froze in-game every 10 seconds. The store took a while to replace it... After that, I experienced one that melted. The third PS2 I had lasted 3 years though (good old days on socom), that one broke on my personal fault(dropped it). Anyway, I can't complain about my 360, Had since launch, but the fan broke once, and killed it. Got the same system back with bigger fan and new cpu chip. It performs much smoother and the system runs quieter and scooler now. Both sony and microsoft have failed me when they launched at one point in time, but i have had more broken ps2's(2 failures) than 360(1 failure)... so I vote ps2.

I only used one controller, the second port was rarely used. This was before the slim, I always take good care of my things. My PS1 had no issues, my PS2 had plenty. So far my 360 Elite has NONE.

I had never heard of the PS2's DRE until SW but the RROD has been mentioned by my friends at school that bought a 360. It's ironic that the XBox was a great consoles but lacked the games to beat the PS2 and now that the 360 has the games it lacks the reliable console.

As far as the dreaded RROD is concerned, NO.

Even the Jaguar, 3DO, 32x, despite having some of the worst library (or lack there of), were very functional consoles. As far as I know.

REALTY is, 360 is the worst design ever (me being an Xbox fan). It's program friendly and flexible, BUT.....horrifically designed.

My PS2 only had the problem with scratching up dvd's, must be said that it fell on the floor a couple of times though:roll:, so I turned it in and got a newer version. But this is nothing compared to the X360, it just shows who is a hardware company and who is the Software company. Sony probably tested they're console a lot more I guess, and they are good with cooling. Pretty remarkable that it is so silent considering it has a 380 watt powersupply inside.

Well I think you can't get an honest answer here, because the cow fanboys are a little well, better not say it, actually I think everything a fanboy says is absolutely stupid. I don't see why people get worked up over consoles, sheesh, must live a sad life I guess.

But anyhoo, I went through 3 ps2's, and on my original 360, so take it what u want, both machines are still great, heck cars break down so why does anyone care?

I agree. The DRE was a simple fix for me. Remove the six screws on the underside of the PS2, open that puppy up, remove any dust with compressed air and clean the laser-eye with IPA and a Q-tip. All my DRE problems stopped after I gathered balls to open it myself. I sure tons of people assumed their PS2 was broke instead of actually doing something for themselves!

You can fix a rrod xbox 360 pretty easily as well. You need some screws, nylon washers, and Artic Silver thermal compound.

I just have to step in here for a sec....Yes the 360 has a RROD issue, but let us not forget about the world famous PS1, a system that SONY to this very day never admitted having laser issues. It was so bad that poeple had to ACTUALLY flip the system upside down in order to get the CDs to read. Don't tell me you guys don't remember that cuz it was running rampant round these parts. Hell I even walked into a Funcoland where the display PS1 was sitting upsidedown. No joke. So take that as you will, the the 360 does have RROD issues YES, but at least M$ addressed the issue with an extended warranty. What did Sony do again?

the laser was ok, but the plastic that kept the disc in place would melt and deform a bit.

Yes, PC easilly has the worst hardware

I have two PCs explode due to power supply failure, 3 PC's burned their motherboards, etc

What was the new problem they created? I did finally kill my PS2 "fat version" after it took a digger on a hardwood floor twice in one day from about 3.5 feet up, thanks to my daughter tripping over the corded remote twice. The first hard drop it still worked. The second drop was all she wrote. I went out and bought the PS2 "slim" and had zero problems for many years.

At least that is the ONLY problem i had with it, it is the ONLY console i have that never got stuck, PS3 got stuck the very first day i bought it !!! I was trying to exit Motorstorm, and did not press the quit game menu, just ejected the disk, that was it, a 100% frozen machine

360 is PERFECT, but the loud drive, that is a LOUD drive, what were they thinking ?

MS would not want to do that, because they would have to pay a lot of money.

If you know how to buy good parts, and you take good care of your PC. The PC skyrockets all the way up to the most reliable form of gaming.

No, and anyone who says PS1 or PS2 should be banned for being a moron.Zerostatic0

nice counter-agrument...you should go into politics

That being said...the Ps2 had an uncanny ablility to die AFTER the warranty was up...I ended up buying 3 before the generation was done.

So you ejected the disc while the game was frozen instead of pressing and holding the pressure sensitive power-switch until it beeps at you several times and then shuts down? Sounds like you ultimately caused it to be permanently frozen instead of following the standard procedure for when the PS3 does occasionally freezes up! I've had my PS3 freeze also, mostly while playing that crappy game Assassin's Creed but as long as I did what I mentioned, my PS3 still works fine and I haven't had any freezing issues since I got rid of AC!

As far as your statement in bold, tell that to the millions who have suffered through the plague that is RRoD.
