Absolutely not. More money than the movie biz and failure rates aren't that bad. People who got RROD got a brand new xbox. Unlike previous generations where you never got your money back and Nintendo ripped you off with stuff that actually didn't work, this generation is boss.
Not if you own a xbox 360
Witcher 2, Lost Odyssey, Fable 2-3, Mass Effect 1-2-3, Tales of Vesperia, Dark Souls, Alan Wake, Halo, Gears etc are some of the best games of all time

Some good games there but I can't see why you would list games like lost odvssey and fable 3 with them scoring so badly and flopping.

Next gen is going to be the joke, 6670 and no used games :lol:Jack-o-Thompsonps4 also suppose to block used game fyi
This has been the best generation I've ever been apart of, and I've been playing for 23 years. The sheer amount of amazing games released every year is unbelievable. If you want to be that naive and complain about everything I guess this is the board, but I assure you this gen has brought us the best gaming experiences, bar none. One gamer's opinion anyway.
Only if you think it's funny to have more damn awesome games available than a gamer has time to play plus a billion free demos of full retail games, arcade & indies as well and add to that, the longest running gen evah !! :o :D
Just might end up being the best yet. :P
Thus far it kind of has.
if we look away from each console and thier stumbles (they happen, not the deciding factor for me).
This gen we got some of the tecnically best made games ever, however most of them, were completely forgettable, with no staying power what so ever. There have been very little milestone games this gen, apart from the technical milestones, the gen felt old even before it started, and only a handful of stand out games, across ALL platforms.
Most games were made to appeal to as wide a range of people, but being so incredibly two dimentionel in story, gameworld, and writing, that by far the most games felt "empty and void".
The most popular games were rehashes and so small that in any past gen they would be considered "expansion packs" or "cheap tie in games" that were sold at a cheaper price.
basicly it is as if the industry on a whole lost most of its creativity in one generation, and all mental depth in games were sucked out, the ever so preasent "streamlining" were the word of this gen, any need for thought, or time needing to be spent to learn a game, were removed for instant gratification, superficial and as a consequence often utterly boring games. Since, why feel the need to do whatever you were to do in the games, when there were no compelling reasons?
Do note that I said "most" there has been a few games that had soul this gen, that did not feel like it was made for someone with ADHD. But man those are far between. So to me this gen has sofar been a failure, unlike any other, with the techinal prowess of the platforms we had avaiable, THIS was the best the devs and publishers could do? jump 20 years back in time from story and backstory standpoints, and desperately just managing to cling to the standard of gameplay controles.
I somehow think that most people who think this gen were the best ever, are the ones who've never seen the other gens. The RPGs suffered the most, followed by the FPS. Where depth, reason, player choice were concerned. all abandoned for the ease of use, pick up and play mentality, which has very hard to create to co-exist with complexity.
Notice that this gen, we not only have the same amount of retail quality games as in any other generation, we also have hundreds of downloadable old school games and remakes. Anyone who thinks this gen is not awesome, may not like videogames.....or may have gotten the wrong system :P

Well downloadable games is a direct consequence, of Publishers not wanting the smaller games we used to have in past gens, so to me it is somewhat a negative to underline that there is something so wrong with the industry, that the games are divided into categories. The none physical ability to distribute these games, are the reason we still get lucky enough to get these, but the industry in general seems very unintent to get behind these games. And we had those last gen too O.o
And remakes are just as bad a symptom. You know something has gone bad, when the remakes and remasters of old games are as looked farward to as they are, what other gens did we have Remakes being resold again as a full retail? Not to mention that those tecnically belongs to another generation O.o
Leaving you know... the games people usually equate a gen to. Which have been underwhelming to say the least on an average. Heck the industry even makes that divide quite evident.
I actually think that is the problem. Why play a remake of a game when most of us have probably played the originals? I'm not going to re-buy something that I bought in the first place and probably have gone through it a few times just to see "HD" graphics.Notice that this gen, we not only have the same amount of retail quality games as in any other generation, we also have hundreds of downloadable old school games and remakes. some of the ps3 has been a joke, i had bit more fun with the ps2 games i had. somedays i feel it was barely worth buying the ps3 system.
however, the xbox360 was much better then the previous xbox in games quality.
anyways, both systems have done well though, they're using 2006 hardware and its now 2012 and thats pretty crazy length in cycle. the first xbox was just 2001-2005, which didnt give it time to get much done.
This is the longest run we've had i think (other then the ps1 perhaps). People that did buy a system this gen have gotten their moneys worth at least... and most ps3 and 360 have had the benefit of having the same games with only just a few exclusives, so everyone been able to enjoy most games.
next gen of consoles ill just pick one, im not really into exclusive titles anymore, i can live without playing a game here and there.
I think the fanboys of this generation of all platforms are a joke. For years, they have lost stupid, countless wars. The fanboys think that their platform is winning, but they don't know is that they'll also join the rest. Dead soldiers that d*** ride corporations while the gamer sits there and watch as the fanboys just kill each other (even you hermits will join the dead as well).
Oh yeah, I know that you fanboys didn't game outside this generation, but the 16-bit generation, my first generation is better than this one. At least the fanboys that time were smarter than you morons.

I think its positive for both, gamers (obviously) and devs. Xbla and PSN give the opportunity to smaller devs to have a place in the market. Remakes from 8 and 16 bit gens like Sonic series, Streets of Rage 2, etc, are a good way for newer gamers to find some amazing masterpieces they couldnt play back in time.
Again, Xbla and PSN dont have nothing to do with the retail market. We still get dozens/hundreds of quality retail products, just like in previous gens. They are just a bonus.
Not for me. It has offered and will continue to offer me more games than I could possibly play. With the HD collections and availability of PSone classics on PSN, Virtual Console, BC with the 360, I don't need to keep my old consoles anymore.

My current collection consists of 35-40 current gen titles, 20-25 last gen and 10-15 titles from earlier gens, I am more than comfortable watching from the sidelines as next gen rolls out.
This gen has been pretty solid for PS3. I wont say its been as good as last gen in all areas though, but racing and open world games have definitely been better. I miss a legit Socom game though. That was big for me last gen, and Zipper dorked them up for this gen. Wii and 360 have been a joke IMO. Wii is unplayable for me. I cant deal with that Wii Mote. 360 has been all bark and no bite. From RROD, to lack of exclusives past the Xbox carryovers (Halo, Forza, Fable), to throwing money at 3rd party devs right and left, to completely selling out to an absurd peripheral like Kinect...if this is Microsoft's grand design for console gaming, maybe they should have sit this gen out. I just dont see how their current course will lead to anything exciting in the future.-ArchAngeL-777-
Well, 360 has exlusives like Alan Wake, Fable 2-3, Halo 2-4-Reach, Bastion, Mass Effect 1, Witcher 2, Lost Odyssey, Tales of Vesperia etc that PS3 could only dream of
PS3 has been the worst system this generation, everything good about PS1-2 are not on PS3 anymore and Dark Souls went multi, so PS3 is now a complete waste of time, unless you are a casual "gamer" that thinks 5 hour rents with 4 hour cut scenes are actual games

Why are you listing multiplat games as exclusives?

witcher 2 and ME1 are still console exclusives. loosingends is retarded but there are a lot of great games on 360 that you cant get on ps3. not everyone has a gaming pcWhile mainstream AAA titles have faltered and dramaticly fallen in terms of quality, this gen does have a multitude of strengths to make up for that. Namely strengthened online, better tech, improved distribution, indie renaissance, and quite a fair share of memorable titles (which I may very well return to long after this gen is over).
It is nowhere near the best gen, but it is far from a joke.
07 was awesome
08 and 09 were absoluely awful years Imo
and 2010-2011 were ok
2012 yet to be determined
Its not a joke but there was just a large amount of time where just so many disappointments happened it just sucked alot of energy out of me. I just want a new gen to start. I've grown tired of this one
Last generation was 100 times better. There was a much more consistant flow of quality content and there was much more variety.. and idk, the games were just a lot more fun to me.. idk. I can still play last gen games and enjoy myself a bit more than the ones I am playing now. At first it wasn't that way at all.. In 06-07 I was like.. THIS GEN IS AWESOME...
But then the same games kept releasing over and over again and I just got bored. Singleplayer adventure games died out and it friggin sucks.
