No, Infact this gen made explore Genres than the past gens. Not to mention Online game is a Must this gen, and connecting with your friends and playing Games together.,Sony,MS,Nintendo are so competitive Driven more than ever and For a gamer i think the best is yet to come.
Not let down, wasn't expecting much. No where near as happy with it as much as last gen and before though. There are a few memorable games though.OICWUTUDIDTHARThat sounds about right imo. Last two gens were such leaps that this gen just couldn't compare. I also agree that we have seen a few great games so far this generation, but I expected a few more of them at this point.
Games like Spore, Braid, Lost Winds, Wario Ware, Trauma Center, Endless Ocean, Little Big Planet, and MP3: Corruption, have all made this gen worth it. Uniqueness FTW.TylendalSounds like you're more of a niche game fan like me more than a mainstream gamer.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the mainstream games, but many of them have a sort of 'you seen one, you've seen them all' thing going for them. I should not be able to just jump right into a game I've never played before, and play it well, simply because I've played other games in the same genre.

That has me worried about RE5, but I'm still cautiously optimistic.
The constant waiting for what might be an average game, which in most cases ends up being the case. Not much has satisfied me this generation. I enjoyed previous generations far more than this one. I think I've lost the ability to hype because I'm almost certain that any game this gen will end up being yet another once playthrough game that I'll have zero interest in playing again. That and many other reasons.. I could easily dub this generation the worst generation in the history of well... Gaming.Dahaka-UKThis is why I think what Nintendo is doing is most definitely a good thing. They're tossing some spice and freshness into an industry that is rapidly becoming jaded.
No, this gen is great. I especially enjoy the 360's lineup so far, and I'm likin' the looks of the Wii's upcoming titles like Punch-Out :)
Though I only buy myself handhelds, and the DS is one of the best systems ever! I've let it sit next to my PSP for the passed 4 years to see if the PSP will learn from it, but so far the PSP has not :( I'd have to say if you include handhelds in this gen then absolutely no way is this a let-down at all. More like one of the best gens ever! :)
I just need my friends to get their hands on a PS3 which will then lead me getting my hands on it too :P
This generation is picking up, and its starting to accelerate. The past few months have displayed a lot of awesomness.PSdual_wielder
yah its been very BR

Agreed, despite some of the amazing games that are out now, I'm certain we haven't even come close to seeing the full extent of what this gen will offer by the time it has had its run. And I don't just mean graphics either.
Yeah I was talking consoles. DS is the best system this gen imo easily. I've bought twice as many handheld games this gen.No, this gen is great. I especially enjoy the 360's lineup so far, and I'm likin' the looks of the Wii's upcoming titles like Punch-Out :)

Speaking of consoles though this gen I've only bought maybe 20 console games compared to about 100 or more console games last generation.

It's the cost of games, accessories, and systems that's keeping me from buying them. Actually, I almost bought a 360 once, but didn't because I don't have an HDTV. I've played the 360 on an HDTV ever since Halo 3 came out, so I don't want to go back.
I think it's this that's keeping people from realising that this gen is actually pretty good. You definitely have to hold off on spending all your dough on every game you want, and pick your absolute must-haves, so you can never experience all the great games coming out. That's how I am. I'd love to be able to play all the games on every system, but that's impossible. Last gen I was capable of owning all three systems, a GBA, the DS, and the PSP. Now I've still got the handhelds, but no systems.
By this time last gen systems were down to like $150! And now? Oh, still $400 for the elite 360 or the PS3, and then $60 a game? No way am I spending that much on gaming. So glad the DS has had this pretty consistent flow of great RPG and platformer games :)
Most people I know dont include handheld and normal consoles in the same gen, i know I dont. Both the DS and PSP were technically released during last gen as well. And their "lifecycles" are quite different than home consoles. It is a good gen for portable game systems thoughNo, this gen is great. This gen is definitely more expensive, but it also offers a lot more than all previous gens, IMO. I didn't want to drop $400 on a PS3 either (plus more for a game and a second controller), so what I did instead was applied for Circuit City's credit card (this was before they officially declared bankruptcy). With that card, I used Circuit City's financing deal to get 18 months of zero interest on purchases $999 and up.
I went on a crazy shopping spree.
80gb PS3 (the Uncharted bundle was sold out in my area)
second Dualshock 3 controller
PS3 controller charge station (looking back, I should have passed on it, but oh well)
Sony bluetooth blu-ray remote
Oblivion GOTY edition
MGS 4
Little Big Planet
Lego Star Wars
Orange Box
Silent Hill Homecoming
Dead Space
Bioshock
Devil May Cry 4
Warhawk with bluetooth headset
I also got some CC gamer's club thing for $20 that actually ended up saving me money since I got a discount on nearly everything on that list.
Grand Total was $1,001 and some change. My monthly payments are only like $20 or so, but I've been making $60 payments. I can easily pay it off within 18 months with $60 payments. The only risky part is that if I miss even one payment, they will charge me interest retroactively from the date of purchase until I pay it all off.
So, for example, if I make timely payments for 16 months and miss a payment on the 17th month, I get charged interest for all 17 months plus however much longer it takes to pay it off. So I just have to be sure to make my monthly payments. It's a lot easier to part with $60 a month than to drop $400+ in one month obviously.
I don't have a HDTV yet sadly, but those will drop in price a lot faster than consoles will. I'm also looking to move out of my current place and find a place closer to work. I may get a HDTV after I move.
RTS and FPS fans will probably disagree, but do the rest of you feel like this gen has been big disappointment overall so far? Other than HD graphics and better online play what has this gen done to prove itself in your opinion?Bigboi500it has for me. from halo 3 to mass effect to fable 2 to fallout 3 to first couple years of madden/

I think that it has been too early to decide, but so far it has been decent. The whole thing with "WOAH GRAPHICS" has worn off, so I'm just waiting for something actually fun.
When it comes to hype in games, YES!!!
Overall, no, but each console has their strengths and weaknesses so it's all balanced.
I do wish for more variety too in games, that's why I'm playing unique and orignal games that no one talks about.
And this gen has Super Mario Galaxy, one of my all time favorite games ever.
