Hatin' on the Halo series....

This is getting ridiculous. It's definitely the most overblown argument in this waste of life known as system wars. Yes, I am a big fan of the series, and I know that it isn't the "second coming", but come on. The reason Halo has gotten so big and has such a big fanbaseis because of the amazing and addicting gameplay and awesome story to go along with it. I don't care what you say because it's true. If it wasn't then the series wouldn't have gotten so huge. If you look at Halo as a video game it is overallon a higher level than 95% of games out there and for good reason. Yet it seems like people here seem to talk about it like it's the worst game(s) ever made.At which point you lose and credibility but still, It's just plain annoying.Maybe your just madbecause the game your hyping is in Halo 3's shadow? Maybe you just wanna knock the lemmings down a peg whatever chance you get? I don't know the motives behind this retarded hating.However, I do think there are games coming out in the near future that are worth as much of our attention as Halo 3 will no doubt get. Personally I've already pre-ordered Assassain's Creed and GTA 5 and planning on getting COD4 and MassEffect and I couldn'tsay I'm looking forward to any of them less than Halo 3 so I'mnot a blind fanboy. I just think some people here need a reality check.

Yeah, I didn't enjoy the online play for Gears at all. I think the Campaign is awesome though. That's where the game really shines. For me at least.

Yeah, I agree with you and all, but one thread questioning the hate on Halo is more than enough.

I agree, there is no real reason to hate on Halo. I really like it for all the unscripted stuff that people have found you can do, like warthog jumping/tossing. I also really like the AI in Halo games and the humour.

As for the people hating on Gears Multiplayer; I don't play it much myself now, but I got it (understood it). It seems that the main reason people didn't like it is because they didn't understand it - it is more like a brutal fighting game than a standard FPS team deathmatch. At the top level, it requires infinate amount of team work and each round lasts less than 2 minutes. If you play it like you would Quake3 or UT, then you won't enjoy it, play it like Mortal Kombat and it is as fun as hell. Just my thoughts about it anyway.

i hate it cause i was expecting to play the greatest game ever and i ended up playing a half decent fps with a very unoriginal story. The only thing epic about the game is it's awsome soundtrack.Silenthps

Guess it depends on when you played it and on what. If you played it years after it was released of course its not going to be as grand as it was for its time, and if you played it on the PC then your also not getting the right experience since it was built for the console so it factors different on the PC than Xbox.

Well to be fair they may just not find it in their tastes in terms of games, but still they shouldnt bash it just because of that.

2. 16 person multiplayer is dead....long dead.

3. This is personal taste but I love mouse and keyboard, I find controllers clunky and unintuitave.

4. It appeals to novice FPS players.

Now before you label me a fanboy I will let you know that I have played Halo as much as any other FPS that I have ever played do to it's popularity as game of choice when deployed overseas. I actually didn't buy into the hype for ever when the original came out, finally broke down after everyone I worked with(at the time I worked at gamestop with actually quite a few intelligent people and gamers)bought it, so I bought my new XBox, set up my live account and played Halo. My reaction was that it was boring and the only time it really outshines the premier FPS's is when you play with a bunch of people in the same room, so that is one thing it has going for itself, however that isn't original.

Then my Xbox broke, got a second and that one was finicky as all hell too.

Um all the halo modes are pretty much a deathmatch no strategy at all. GeoW is almost a tatical shooter as far as depth goes. Its also not boring like Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six which makes it one of the best online experiences ever.

lol yeah probably not since FPS games especially on PC have a lot more going for it now than FPS' had back then. Anyway I suggest giving Halo 3 a try when its released and see if you enjoy it at its prime, if not then its just not your cup of tea. :P

Oh and I also suggest trying co-op if you get the chance, Halo 1 really shined when it came to a great co-op experience.

How is 16 player multiplayer dead? I think 16 is the perfect number when games have more than 16 people it normally just turns into a messy game with no teamwork. The best multiplayer games I have is when the room has 8 to 16 people. To say that 16 player multiplayer is dead is just a very stupid statement.

People have varying opinions. I genuinely dislike the Halo series. I do not "hate on" it but I should not be forced to like it because its "popular."foxhound_fox

I've been playing counter strike since 2001 and 32 players is not to much. In fact I've seen a ton of team work go into playing counter strike.

I can argue all day the merits and demerits of Halo, but the truth is when you put it up against the other FPS's across a multi platform spectrum you will find Halo as a ho-hum FPS. The story line is far from great and multiplayer is average. I am not saying Halo sucks, and I hate it and it's the worst game ever. But honestly if you really step back and take an objective view of it, it really is just not that great.

The reason I don't like Halo:

1. It's mediocre and it is not the first FPS on a console to do well, that right is reserved for Goldeneye.

2. 16 person multiplayer is dead....long dead.

3. This is personal taste but I love mouse and keyboard, I find controllers clunky and unintuitave.

See this guy agrees with me you can say that you have played Counterstrike and it is fun with 32 people but there is no teamwork. I used to play counterstrike all the time and in those 32 player matches there is no teamwork everyone just runs around doing their own thing. There is a reason why competitive matches are played 5v5 and not 16v16. Stop trying to pass opinions off as facts and 16 player multiplayer games are very far from dead.

Yeah I get what you mean, Ive been playing Gears since launch and have enjoyed it a lot and still do (lol infact Im about to go play right now) but I would like to see more content in the next iteration. If they can expand on the multiplayer a whole lot for Gears 2 it may become my favorite console shooter this gen, Gears just has a very intense surrounding to it that makes it feel great to play and I hope they can make that feeling even stronger with Gears 2 when that comes about.

Anyway. I can't stand the Halo games. However I would never say that they suck. The Halo franchise turned alot of non-gamers into gamers and Halo addicts. That should count for something (even in the eyes of a fanboy). I can't stand the Beatles music, but that doesn't mean that I will discredit the enormous contribution they made to the world of music.

An opinion CANNOT be wrong, so how are they wrong? He even says himself opinion is not factual.

An opinion is not "Halo is the most mediocre game ever."

An opinion would be "I don't like Halo" or "I dislike Halo"

Example:

I don't like any of the Ratchet and Clank series. Doesn't mean I don't acknowledge it as the best in their genre.

Some people overrate the Halo series. I'm perfectly fine with it being called the best console FPS ever even though I don't like it, but when someone calls it the best FPS ever, we've got a problem.Technoweirdo

Then there's the superficial reasoning that somehow since Halo is on a console it automatically makes it average compared to other PC FPS.

For its time, Halo beat out anything on any system. Even if NOLF 2 came out the next year, it doesn't in any way dampen Halo's success at the genre.
