This just came across my mind, maybe I'm missing something, but has there ever been a significant AAA FPS developed by Japanese developer?

Could you surmise to a reason why?Could you surmise to a reason why? Dead-MemoriesProbably because the market isn't very strong for them in Japan to be worth going against the established franchises.

Its maybe a living in your own bubble thing, like other cultures sometimes just don't feel like trying out something new. Or that they're too occupied already with their own style of games.

I wonder what would happen if Resident Evil had been released as a FPS game as originally intended. Probably it would be a totally different ballgame by now.Radiant Silvergun was AAA. thriteenthmonkeNot a First Person Shooter, and by the way this shows how the Japanese lack the distance toward themselves, which is paradoxical, because over the years they have been assimilating countless elements of Western Culture into their games, and thus making people think they're unique, while in reality they were deconstructing it.

Probably it would be a totally different ballgame by now.It was meant to be first person perspective, but it doesn't mean it would play like a shooter. The design in RE was conciously designed as it was because survival horror was thought to be more scary.

I'm not even sure what any of that means.
But Japan has taken things from other cultures, countries, etc ... and has reworked them back into their own culture ... since Japan was Japan. It's just the way they work. But the end result is definitely uniquely Japanese.

Yes, this is precisely what I meant, assimilating elements of other cultures and giving them their own spin, of course it's a creative process, but some people tend to overexaggerate this uniqueness.[QUOTE="hakanakumono"][QUOTE="Salt_The_Fries"] Not a First Person Shooter, and by the way this shows how the Japanese lack the distance toward themselves, which is paradoxical, because over the years they have been assimilating countless elements of Western Culture into their games, and thus making people think they're unique, while in reality they were deconstructing it.Salt_The_Fries

man I was just thinking... a japanse fps could be good
half-naked anime girls killing eachother with guts and body parts flying all over the place
*drools*
RE4 comes to mind. also, one can argue about MGS. I wont exactly call both games shooters like Gears of War, but most of the time, you run around shooting people. RE4/RE5 in particular, therefore JPN have the potential to make a 'full' blown AAA shooter.MightyMunaBut we're talking about FPP shooters.

Same thing thats stops western devs. from making turn based rpgs
What is that considering that western developers have made turn based RPGs ?
Not popular, hence less incentive for developers. It's considered a niche genre that only attracts people who are interested in western games.

And what do you propose stops them?it's known that most japanese get motion sickness from FPS's...it's why they don't get into games like halo, KZ2, etc.
they just flat out like FPS's

Real time is better? It is? All the best rpg's are turnbased not to mention rather old by now.
Its sad how people still don't realize there is a Shooter developed by a Japanese company and one more on the way. Its called Lost Planet: Extreme Condition and Lost Planet 2, too bad people never heard of these.

[QUOTE="Hiroshi_Ichirou"]Lol one it's not AAA and two it's a third person shooter. I never said it was a first person shooter, I know what this thread is about. I know what type of shooter it is, the title of this thread doesn't state anything about first person, nor does it in the first post made for this thread. He said shooter, that means first or third, I also know it hasn't made it to AAA, but the second one may have a chance. Its sad how people still don't realize there is a Shooter developed by a Japanese company and one more on the way. That's a matter of opinion. I always thought turn based, even in games like kotor or baulders gate, played kind of goofy. Mass Effect was the first bioware game I could get into.

Subjective to opinion.Well Sega was going to make an FPS for the PS3, they showed a trailer back in 2006 but I forgot the name. Anyway the Japanese public don't like FPS so maybe that's the reason why Japanese devs don't bother making any, I hate FPS so it doesn't bother me and I prefer they make epic games in genre's they are known for.
