Not really...I always played a lot of games. I remember last gen, people would call me out and ask if I ever played "X game" or "Y Game" with questions. I used to take pictures and post them back then, as I got tired of the complaints.

So, this gen it's been nice since I don't get harassed nearly as much.

The only other difference is my buddies used to compete per game (Who beat Halo on Legendary looking at Saves, Metal Gear Solid on Big Boss, beat the Ruby Weapons in FF7, beat Zelda the fastest, etc.), and now we just compete with Trophies/Achievements as the measuring tool.

I know for instance in Castlevania :Symphony of the Night (One of the GREATEST GAMES EVER MADE, best Castlevania by far) when I got 200 Gamerscore on the XBLA re-release, I still played it since there was SO MUCH to do. In Legend of Legaia- on PSONe, I remember leveling up and grinding to 99 to get the extra powers, or in Chrono Trigger on SNES getting as many endings as possible, or in modern day games I will do "Achievement/Trophy worthy" things in GAME that don't get me achieves just to see what the game and engine can really do. In fighting games I love mastering every possible moveset every character can do, etc.

I don't know how many glitches/bugs/crashed I've caused because of this lol, too many to count. I am an uber completionist if I like the game.

And yeah, it changed for me since I have something else to do whenever I don't feel like playing a game again, since I don't game as much as I use to like in previous gens.

Exactly! the main thing here is being able to compete with friends and show them u trully played X game or Y and was able to solve a Z puzzle or kill something really hard in the game.. tho looking at your trophy card i must say you probably the 4th highest number i seen with trophies so far ( 21 plats how did u do that? :P ) anyways i heard the number 1 user in the world is level 26 with over 100 plats

If the achievement is cool I go after them, it's a way to boost the playing time and make worth your hard earned money. I'm up for beating the game on the hardest difficulty, using the weakest gun or under some time and get points for this. But I'll never lose my time getting ridiculous achievements like that one in Gears where you have to play 10.000 online matches or something like that, also that one of having a kill count of 100.000.

Ah, yes.

But unlike the number one user PSN user, I'm a real longtime member of GS here, and you can chat with me! :P...plus, I have a massive 99,900 Gamerscore to juggle as well. It's much easier having one system when going for these things, lol. :P

The cool thing is I've been here for years.:)

That's probably one of the greatest benefits of them, they entice a lot of people to get more out of a game. I also rarely used to replay games, but now that there are rewards and campaigns/stories tend to be shorter I do it a lot more.

yea it did a bit for me. It brought me more replayability just like you. but some of the one im aiming for is also some of the most ridiculous ones. For example playing NG2 on hardest difficulty or passing hard trial challenges for SF4 (i spent so much time completing all the normal trials and i thought that was hard. I start hard trials and it was OBSCURE). Havent complete any games 100% yet. Closest i come was bioshock. I have so much respect for those who completed SF4 or NG2 100% (especially NG2).

I would say yes, and for the better too. Before, there would be optional missions or distractions in games that I did not pay any particular attention to and would end up just skipping. Now that there is an incentive to complete those tasks, I perform them, thereby extending my playtime with the game and prolonging my enjoyment of it. I like trophies and achievements, but I do not take them too seriously. Despite my large gamerscore, there isn`t a single game I played just for the achievements

For me, yes. I go play some SP games and older games just to get more points out of it thus making it more worthy in a sense.

Yup. It made me play the game i buy alot more often even if i finished it. But there are games that are already worth replaying or playing it more without the achievements/trophies. Example, GTA IV, Casltevania:SOTN, MGS4 and much much more. You could say it changed my way in gaming for the better i guess because now, i care about unlocking stuff in the game and in the process more replay value for me which = more bang for my buck, which is always win.

Pretty much this though that's not too different from the old unlocks but yeah, i just wish we got somethign more out of unlocking them.

Trophies are like competition between me and one of my friends.

It also gives me direction on what to do my second/third plays through.

Damien Torrence tends to replay story modes. Damien Torrence also prefers the Trophy system, Damien Torrence believe that having an "ultimate" trophy (The platinum one) gives a more concrete goal than just more points.

It changes what I play next. If MGS4, Condemned 2or Valkyria Chronicles had support, I would play them again.

And that feeling at 1 AM from getting the Fallout 3 platinum... felt. so good...

Achievements and trophys make bad games last longer imo, because you have something to take from your bad experience :)

Not me. Achievements/trophies are are one of the dumbest "advantages" to playing a game ever.

Will a virtual pad on the back improve my game? No, because I'm not a tool.

well i can truthfully say when i got my xbox and got into the whole achievement thingy i really was soley playing for achievements, i feel really bad for being addicted to trophies and achievements but its just stuck with me since im huge on competition i love to have my bragging rights, so my gamerscore got to about 4200 and then i figured eh, thats better than most my friends, and my trophy level on PS3 is level 8 and i figure thats pretty awesome since i haven't even had my PS3 for a full year yet :P !!! Ok they make games more addicting to play thats all i can say which is why i always check the back of a box before i buy a game to see if its got trophies/achievements xD

Admittedly yes. Last gen I use to only play through games on easy or normal, but now I've finally decided to play through on the hardest modes.

Kinda, I do feel more incentive to replay games beyond the usual game unlockables. Im not obsessive over trophies but they are definitely a good thing this gen, both achievements and trophies. I would also like to add that anyone who purchases games simply for trophy/achievement hunting totally fails in my book.

yes it has for me. I play through games the first time like I normally always do, enjoying the experience. After that trophies give me a clear mark on accomplishing everything the game has to offer then I move on. Helps slow me down on buying tons of games that I never finish.

Yep, they definitely changed mine. I used to just play games to get to the end, to find out what happened in the story. Now after I do that, I go back to games and do random things in-game that I otherwise wouldn't do (like flip a car 3 times in GTA IV for example). The point is, I now play games much more to completion than I used to because of achievements.

no because they amount to nothing. If they were what accounted for microsoft points to buy content and videos and all the other stuff on xbox live it could have been a ton of fun. But of course they are greedy coorporations trying to squeeze every dime out of the gamers it makes me sick. When i found out achievement points were really just something for you to slightly care about and for others to only care about there own, and that everything was micro transactions it planted a seed of dark hate in me for where gaming is headed. And with this weak minded generation completely mind controlled by commercialization I fear it is only going to get nastier.

not really, if i see an achievement//trophy that is for doing something cool i would try to get it, but its not like i would be playing a game 99 times to unlock something neer impossible just to say i have 100% conpletion, unless its a game i really love(but i would do that even w/o achievments/trophies)

achievements don't mean anything to me. I play the game to have fun, if I get an achievement while I'm playing, ok, but I do not go out of my way to try to get achievements.
