Or have you skipped a generation, only to get into it at a much later date? One example can be that I never bought a PS2 only until the PS3 era. Though I had a PS3 as well. Also, I bought the first x-box, got a 360 at the tail end, completely skipped the One, but I'm thinking of getting a series X for the exclusives. Have you had these experiences?

I sat out gen 8 because of my large gen 7 backlog, and because my kids were born. Got a Switch in 2019, and low end gaming rig in 2020. Been catching up on some stuff I missed since then.

Not yet. But after getting a PS4, I've been disappointed with console gaming ever since. It's the first time I've actually considered skipping this gen cos all the console games(bar nintendo's) are going to PC anyway.

Nope. Been involved in each gaming generation from the Atari 2600 and up.

Probably this gen. PC doesn't have generations and there's little reason for me to get a console when most console exclusives eventually come to PC anyway.

Nope, I have never skipped a gen. I came in late in the PS4 gen by buying a PS4 Pro.

No, but this generation has been by far the least amount of gaming I've done. Combination of getting older, work, wife, and kiddo were a sad reminder this hobby can be put to the wayside.

I had an Xbox one last gen. It had no games, so I basically skipped the entire generation. 🤷‍♂️

Played the heck out of the PS1,played the PS2 every couple of months, never got into it. Bought the PS3 and freaking hated the PS3 controller in every way,so I returned the PS3 to Future Shop and got my refund for the games I bought, and the PS3. Never tried the PS4 or the PS5. The PlayStation 4 has had a lot more appeal than the PS5. I was a loyal Xbox gamer since the original Xbox. The Xbox brand was more interesting and a lot more appealing than Sony’s PlayStation series of consoles.

There were generations where I had more consoles than others; but I've had at least one Nintendo console from each generation since I started playing games.

Yup. I wouldn't say I "skipped" PS1/Saturn/N64, but I didn't own them at the time. I eventually bought a N64 in 2003. I owned the original Xbox, but none of the others. And I don't have anything from this gen. Similar to @PCLover1980: I fell out of love with console gaming after the PS4. At this rate, I'm done with modern gaming.

Nah, PC is more or less "generationless" so there's no real way to skip an entire gen, though if you wanted to argue otherwise I suppose there are some valid points to make in that regard (maybe base it off graphics chips?).

With that said, seeing as how console generations tend to be like five or more years long, that's a long long long time to not play games.

Although I played PS1 heavily I only got it during the PS2 era as in the 90's (and early 2000) I was a PC RTS kid.

I've been gaming since the Gamecube days. I did own a N64 and a SNES, but I wasn't passionately playing until I got a Gamecube.

No. That'd be lame to do if you're a gamer.

Yeah I have, I had the SNES but then skipped the next generation.

And I got back into consoles at the tail end of the PS2/Xbox/GC generation.

But I can't say I didn't play a single console then, loads of people I knew had them so I still played on consoles. I just never had them myself and decided PC gaming was my jam.

Yes indeed. For me it was the PS4 gen.

I finished high school in 2012.

Served in the marines until 2014 (no gaming except TLOU)

Got my business degree in 2019 (no gaming except MGS5)

between 2012-2019 combined I played less than half the hours of any of the four years after (2020-2023).

The only games I played in 2012-18 were: The Last of Us, Metal Gear Solid 5 and Bioshock Infinite. I bought a PS4 on launch in 2013 but the only PS4 game I played between 2013 and 2018 or so was MGS5 in 2015.

In 2019 after finally getting a good job with money and lots of spare time I made my full come back in gaming, got RDR2, God of War, Uncharted 4, Witcher 3 and all the best games of the PS4 gen that I missed. Started playing Call of Duty again with COD:MW/WZ.

Bought a PS5, fell inlove with From Soft games, spent 1000++ hours playing DS1-3, Demon's Souls, Sekiro & Elden Ring and now I have a near $10,000 4090 based gaming PC setup and play pretty any game regardless of quality, even games that don't score all that well like Quantum Break, Plague Tale 2, Alan Wake 2, Starfield, etc. Whatever is on GamePass or on sale goes.

Ever since I started buying my own consoles I haven't missed a major release starting with PS2.

Started gaming on 2600 and NES and haven't missed anything except the TG16 and Neo Geo.

Never skipped a generation but skipped certain consoles during a generation. I completely skipped over the Wii just wasn't a fan of the control system.

I never skipped a generation but mainly played PS1 over the N64. Going back to N64 this year, I’ve realized that N64>PS1. Like most Nintendo consoles, it has a better niche catalogue. For example, find me a better puzzle game than Tetrisphere from that era. You can’t. And N64 has three great Tetris games, including two that are exclusive. Not to mention N64 was king in platformers and FPSs over PS1.

Only almost skipped this one since I couldn't get an XSX until some two years after it launched.

Only obvious big payoff for this gen has been the SSD and quick resume.

Not entirely.

I have skipped certain consoles in a generation. Never had an N64 or PS2 or PS4/X1. But I always had a least 1 system from each generation. Usually 1 console, 1 handheld and the almost constant, sitting there ready to go, good ol PC.

At the moment I pretty much go with PC and a Nintendo system.

Skipped consoles after the Sega Genesis in favor of PC. Came back with the Dreamcast and PS2.

First, second and third largely because I was too young. Technically speaking I started my gaming life in the third generation as I had a Commodore 64. It wasn't a console, but I only played games on it.

I owned a Sega Mega Drive from 1991 to 1994, at which point I went back to computers for a while and owned an Amiga. In 1996 I had a PC, and I didn't own another console until late 1998 with a PS1. My interest in the PS1 didn't last long though because in 1999 I had a more powerful PC. I nearly skipped the fifth gen, but got an original Xbox near the end of it's life in 2005, after about six years of being a pure hermit. After that I've had the last three gens.

Skip entirely? No... But I was getting my undergraduate degree during the ps1/N64 generation and I didn't pay much attention to what was going on. I never bought a ps1, but my roommate had one and I started working at best buy in 2000 so I bought a heavily reduced price pink n64. I played OOT and a few others... Ps1 I played resident evil and mgs... Lots of GTA 1.

I payed that generation next to zero attention though. I was back on track for the next gen.

I have also not jumped into ps5 or xbx, though I have a switch and a steam deck. Not sure if that counts but I don't have much interest in buying either for the time being.

I don't buy consoles on day 1 anymore, but I have never skipped a generation since Atari 2600.
