Have you ever WANTED to like a genre but just couldn't get into it?

I tried my best to like RPG's but I simply cannot get into them. I bought Fallout 3 and Mass Effect 2 to test out WRPG's and I tried Valkyria Chronicles, Final Fantasy 13, and Tales of Vesperia to try out JRPG's. In The WRPG's I had a little fun but it got boring quick. And in JRPG's The turn based battle systems just didn't mesh with me. I love the art styles of JRPG's (I'm an anime fan) but I just could not get into them. Any of you have a similar experience?

RTS and TBS. Games like the Total Wars, C&C, Red Alert, StarCraft, Warcraft, Civilization.. Can't enjoy them. I suck at them, and I don't feel the need to put tons of hours to get the hang of them.

Jay Are Pee Gee's. I've tried, lord knows I've tried. While the strategy part I like, I just don't get the 'role playing' element. The 3 I've played have always seemed on rails, where you just followed the story and really had no input into your characters appearance, background or actions. The effeminate protagonists and the art style don't do much for me either. Conversely, I love pretty much anything and everything Bioware/Black Isle has ever done (especially back in the BG/Torment/KotOR days), plus ToEE and all three Fallouts.

Turn based Stategy, I like RTS but turn based just gets boring for me after a while even though I want to enjoy it :(.

Can't say I ever wanted to like a genre, I just do. But I guess the closet thing is wargames, they look fun but I'm not ready to spend my money on one.

music and racing genres

Yes. Around 2005 I started buying a lot of first person shooters, but I mostly left them unfinished (Doom 3, Unreal 2, even Halo: CE). Only recently I started getting into the genre again, and thanks to games such as Stalker, Crysis, Bioshock, Half-Life 2, and FEAR, it is now my favourite genre.

I also tried to get into RPGs, but the only ones I've managed to beat so far are the Paper Mario games. I still have Monster Hunter Tri sitting on the shelves, and I even find Oblivion to be confusing. I guess this genre just isn't for me.

JRPGs. Blech

FPS, i've been trying to like this since a while, but i just couldn't get into Doom, Golden Eye or Turok, nowadays, i still don't like them, however, i would be lying if i said that i don't like a lot Half Life 2 and Portal.

I can't get into RTS, puzzle games or fighting games (except Street Fighter). However, I am enjoying SC2, although I'm not very good at it, it's still fun to play online with friends.

RTS games and MMO's, simply because I dont have time for them or I prefer story based games

Yeah I do the same thing with RPG's every once in a while. But almost every time I end up bored after a few hours.

Anything thats like or is a SRPG. I want to get into games like disgaea and valkyria chronicles but I just suck at those games so dam bad.

this is such a good opportunity to post this link, because this is the video that got me into starcraft a few years ago, and its the reason WHY people should appreciate the genre more. :D

As for me, TBS, civilization seems like such a deep game, but it just looks 'too deep' and and kinda boring on the surface. I'm thinking of giving it another try with civ5 later.

War games like Empire: Total War. For me, I felt intimidated by its controls and I find 18th century warfare dull. Also, simulation games like Civilization or Patrician, as I am not into multi-tasking or micro-management.

RTS. I want to enjoy Starcraft 2 but its just too slow and time consuming. What happens if you have to take a dump while half way into the game?

fighting like street fighter

"Old school" japanese and western rpgs. Picked up baulders gate when it was new, played it for maybe 5 hours and got bored with it. I did a bit better with ff7 on computer, but I only got about halfway through before I put that down as well.

I do however enjoy morrowind, oblivion, and the mass effect games.

JRPG - with the exception of skies of arcadia just felt very stale and SO 2 generations ago plus I never liked the uber cute overly feminine looking characters and art style. Sim racer- Id rather shoot a turtle shell at someone then worry about tire alignments and breaks :PSp4rtan_3

thats weird skies of arcadia was the only JRPG i could stomach too.

I tried like hell to get into final fantasy, but couldnt stand it.

Space Sims. I love astronomy and the way those games look, but they require so much dedication that I don't have the time to play them. I even own EVE Online and X3. I just haven't been able to get into them.

There are many games I tried to like but couldn't get into.

First-person. Other than Portal and Halo, just cannot get into them. I just do not like the way first-person view feels. Just does not feel right.

i love RPG's but i can't seem to get into J-Rpg's

The sports genre i just cant get into it no matter how much i try.

Turn-based RPGs. Sooooo much critical acclaim in this genra, and I have tried numerous times to get into it, and each time I fail. My last attempt was with Xenosaga Episode 1. I think I made it close to 10 hours in and just couldn't bring myself to play it again. Now action RPGs like Diablo and Demon's Souls I have no problem getting into.

I will say that the demo to Eternal Sonata impressed me, but I'm not even gonna bother with it because I just KNOW I will grow bored with the game.

FPS games. I prefer third person. and turn based RPGs, the only one i kinda liked was chrono trigger on PS1.

Western strategic role playing games, such as Dragon Age Origins. I like the story of it, but i just can't seem to enjoy the gameplay.

Regular sports games like madden or tiger woods. I do on the other hand like mario tennis and mario golf.
