To me, arguing over what game "looks" better seems like what kids do on the playground. The average age for a gamer is like 30 something. Is system wars just skewed to a much younger fanbase then the average gamer? At what point did you just stop caring what a game looks like?

I think we have gotten to the point in the currant hardware cycle where games can't just use graphics to wow us anymore.

I believe I have. Although I'll admit, if I step back a few generations and play a game that I didn't play growing up, I have a hard time getting past the graphics. case in point, Sonic the Hedgehog. I grew up with a SNES. Now that I have a Wii I'm playing those Genesis games and I'm having a hard time getting used to the graphics. Super Mario World... no problem.

I'll never outgrow graphics. Visuals are 80% immersion to me, crap visuals unless I played the game before when it came out (older games), make games unplayable for me.

I basically can play an old bad looking game, but not a more recent bad looking game, if every part of the game feels old, I can play it just fine. I played Elder Scrolls 2 for the first time last summer, cause it went free then, it didn't bother me how "bad" it looked, and I didn't have any nostalgia associated with it, still enjoyed it for some amount of hours before getting stuck. :P I tried to play a Neverwinter Nights 2 expansion, but since I got so used to Dragon Age's streamlined controls and interface, I found it kind of a pain to play..

Old snes classics for example, such as chrono trigger, are still playable, and way better than current rpg's. I still play chrono trigger, lufia 2, etc. No graphics don't have to be technically advanced, just well utilized. The game should have style at the very least.

By saying "outgrown" you seem to falsely imply that interest in graphical fidelity is somehow related to maturity.

As a matter of fact I think graphics are important for the quite legitimate reason that they can be used to increase draw distances, rendered objects, destructible environments, level of detail, number of AIs, number of player characters, possible simultaneous physics interactions, etc.

It's not just some nonsense where it comes down to how pretty it looks. But even in that case, why shouldn't you be able to enjoy the high-fidelity models and artwork that is created for every game?

Would you rather look at a professionally created painting in full size or at 124x326 resolution with spotty color reproduction?

My problem with graphics debates on System wars, is that none of them are actually about graphics. Many of the posters her have a warped misconception on how game visuals are actually produced and never consider the influence of an engine and the role it plays in game development. Everything is measured on the artstyIe of still images and never do they consider scale, AI, physics, and genre

Look at the term "Graphics king"

Anyone who knows anything about graphics, knows that you can't possibly have a "graphics king" the term itself is a joke.

Yeah, scale is overlooked really often, it makes AI and physics even harder to produce, the more space that each has to cover, the harder it is to do properly. People love to post videos of Crysis with the occasional bad AI or bad physics moment, but in truth, its fine most of the time, with such a grand scale, its going to be fairly easy to eventually break it.

It's been a while for that but that doesn't mean i'll outgrow graphics, infact it reinforces my point about how much I care about visuals.
