Dreamcast was a really cool console, but people act like they have no idea how it could've failed.

Dreamcast had one to three great games in each genre... but that's it. Dreamcast, however, did have the highest percentage of quirky games and original games. I love/d Jet Grind Radio, Sonic Adventures, Soul Reaver, Space Channel 5, Soul Calibur, and Fur Fighters. They were cool games. But outside of that, Dreamcast didn't really have much more games up on Playstation 2.

There weren't a lot of good games for the Dreamcast, but the games that were good were amazing, but people are forgetting that Dreamcast wasn't really a marketable console because the library of good games was so small and the good games outside of the 2K Sports series weren't ones that most people would think about purchasing.

But still, a Dreamcast is still worth picking up today since you can get a Dreamcast, the 5 classics, an extra controller, and a VMU for the price of two games today.

Dreamcast is my favorite console of all time, so...yeah.

There's no real point in arguing about the Dreamcast anymore though. It had its shot, and sadly, it failed. At least in a business sense anyway.

THANK YOU. That's exactly what I'm trying to say all the time. Dreamcast was an alright system, but nowhere near the level some people claim it to be. an that the reason it failed. STOP LIVING IN THE PAST

I disagree, to this day I think it's mindboggling that the Dreamcast failed with such a great library, it had way more then just a few great games. In it's short life-span it amassed so many under-ground hits, cult-classics, and just plain great games that it could've kept me busy for years. I mean put it like this, The 360 has been around since late 2005 and the Dreamcast library smashes the 360 library. Heck, according to gamerankings there are 94 360 games that are A+ (i.e. 7.0 or higher) and yet there are over 140 Dreamcast games that are A+. Not to mention that the Dreamcast library was more innovative and had more unique titles. Here are just a few games that were awesome on the Dreamcast: Jet Grind Radio Shenmue Phantasy Star Online Grandia 2 Unreal Tournament Quake III Arena Sonic Adventure 1 & 2 Power Stone 1 & 2 Ready 2 Rumble Boxing Space Channel 5 Ecco The Dolphin Ooga Booga Virtua On: Oratorio Tangram Samba de Amigo ChuChu Rocket! Most of those games have been ported to ps2 and xbox. Besides, the ps2 alone has a better library than the dreamcast

Dreamcast's life cycle was very short. Many developers werent developing for it because of the massive ps2 hype machine. They were developing ps2 games. I also think a small bit of it was Sega's history with the 32x, Sega cd, Neptune, etc. Sega just lost a lot of goodwill in the industry. But the DC was still a fantastic machine, and one of my all time favorite consoles, easily.

Think about that for a sec, what does it tell you about the quality of the Dreamcast games, that it's games were deemed port-worthy? Also, of course the PS2 library is better, it's been out for like 6 years and is the best selling home console ever. However, compare the PS2 Library when it was only 2 years on the market to the Dreamcast library and it's not even close. No system put out so many great games as fast as the Dreamcast. That's what makes it so loved. Imagine you get a system and for 2 years str8 you're playing awesome game after awesome game, and then due to the fact that it's parent company went bankrupt, that system dies. That's what happened with the Dreamcast, and that is why so many fans are still trying to keep the magic alive.

Im pretty sure the main reason dreamcast failed is because you could burn the disks. I knew a guy who had at least 50 games on blank discs that he never payed for.

I think the dreamcast having a great library is a subjective statement, Thereby there's no point in continuing this discussion

The Dreamcast certainly has become extremelly overrated. It's just as when an artist dies young and then all you can do is wonder about how great he could've been since nobody saw him decay.

For me the Dreamcast was a big let down in a way, since SEGA consoles had been my first priority consoles for the past 2 gaming gens prior the Dreamcast, and just 2 years and a half worth of games whom %70 of them were Arcade ports.

Everything always look either better or worse in retrospective, and now you can look at all the games the Dreamcast had and say it had a satisfying library, yet at present time you aren't looking to getting every released game available for the system, but more you're looking into new gaming experiences, and the Dreamcast was just too short lived.

Ask yourselves if your preferred console (PS3/360/Wii) was cut off within 2 years, and tell me you wouldn't be dissapointed.

The only difference is that the 360 library will continue to grow and bring you new games while the DC stopped in 2002.

I don't think anyone would deny the good library the Dreamcast had. But all those games coudl've come out the same day for all it matters, since there wasn't going to be more of them.

Dreamcast IS (not was) a great system. The 300 pound gorilla that is Sony used its marketing power to sway the consumers into "waiting" for the PS2. It didn't help though that the DC used a nonstandard format of GD-ROM discs where as the PS2 used DVD. It was aboon for Sony that the PS2 had the DVD because it was the trojan horse at that time.

Sony is been trying to get the same result out of the PS3 with the blueray drive. Problem there is too many people who have the PS2 are also being swayed away from joining the PS3 users because Sony has stated to continue supporting the library of PS2 games. There comes a point to which you have to stop supporting "the past" and move on to the newe generation.

MS knew this was going to be hard and so rather than candy coat it, they ripped off the band-aid that was support for the original xbox. And like that analogy, it stung a few people for a while but it has allowed them to progress into focusing on the 360. Sega was ata atime trying to support the genesis/cd, 32x, gamegear AND saturn and spread themselves so thin that gamers got fed up and basically left sega and went with the company with really only one focus...Sony (PS1).

PS1 was a hit and made the gamers anxious for what they had to offer next and those gamers had blinders on when it came to the release of the DC. They were so intent on getting the PS2 that the greatness that IS Dreamcast went right on by. I find it sad but also good that so many gamers who were put off with getting the DC back when the PS2 came out, have now gone back and gotten the DC and the library of games it has to offer. You could say to them too little too late and yet most people I talk to about the DC say "It really is a great system. Why didn't I get it sooner?"

The homebrew scene is about all that is left. I like to hook mine up to my PC and go on the web and try and play some daytona or outtrigger. Alien front online is still my fav. If Sony said tomorrow that it was no longer supporting the PS2 and decides to focus all attention on developing for the PS3, gamers would be given a serious wakeup call to jump on the PS3 bandwagon. Offering a trade in plan for existing PS2 owners to get $100 off the cost of a PS3 would be a real boost to the sales.
