HD-DVD = game over

It's official.

Blu-Ray won.

Congrats, Cows.

Nothing to do with gaming, but it's on GAMESPOTS news section, so I think gamespot should allow this if they're reporting on it themselves.

Anyway now this is cleared up I can finally invest in a new format. all that needs to happen now are mass price drops, like dvds and I'm set.

no need for price drops anymore.... no more competion. Congrads!

One note, I wonder why everybody jumped behind BR overnight. Not one (bestbuy, netflix, nor walmart) say that BR is better, jsut that they will only support BR and not HD-DVD (as far as not even recommending it to people who wants HD DVD. All I a saying is, I think somebody through a lot of money and Bought support (not earn it)

This is nicely timed for MS to announce a Blu-ray add on for 360 at GDC

It has plenty of competition from dvd. DVD sales didn't pick up untill they were level with VHS prices. not only that but DVD prices are farrrrrrrrrrrrr below what vhs prices were.

true, but they don't. And I for one don't want them to start either. That would be devistating. Mr. Endless money. T

We all should have access to an option IMO. Never thought any department store would stop support a format over another through business deal (usually it after a product is out of production, not in the beginning). No more cassettes, have to buy mini disks ... blah balh

I don't understand this. It isn't really a company versus company anymore. All companies will be making HD discs on BR now. How is that a bad thing? Has it been bad that we've had DVD all alone without any other format against it?

Obviously because with no rival there's no reason to keep prices down.

HD downloadable movies will be the norm within a few years. Imagine being able to buy and rent HD movie in cyberspace and can access it anytime you want..... No more scratched disks, no more driving to the video store, or even having to wait for it to come by mail from Netflix.. It is coming, its inevitable.

the film studios set the prices for films and blur ray players, like dvds, will be made by more than one company. there is your competition.

Look how cheap DVD movies and players are. There is going to be competition between BR movie players, so the price will continue to decrease.

for one, this has nothing to do with gaming. It is good that the PS3's drive is not obsolete for movies. But even if HD-DVD won, BD discs will still be made for the PS3.....anyway, i am happy for that BD won, I actually liked it better. HD-DVD seemed bland to me for some reason (only one company producing it), plus BD is scratch-resistant.

Anyway, this junk was actually on the news yesterday (over here in Maryland). They made a section saying "Bye, Bye, Xbox360", they even said the 360 is in trouble since the Xbox360 comes with an HD-DVD drive

Anyway, this is a good thing. Especially as a salesman, it is hard to sell a $400 player when a couple of their favorite movies are on another player.
