http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/show/Exclusive_HD_Content/HDi/Universal/Microsoft/Online_Interactivity_to_Spearhead_Universals_2007_HD_DVD_Assault/523
Universal Studios Home Entertainment is betting that interactivity will boost HD DVD in its next-gen battle against Blu-ray, with the studio planning to release three major titles in 2007 with web-connected features.
While no HD DVD-supporting studios have yet taken advantage of the Ethernet capabilities found on all Toshiba first- and second-gen HD DVD players, that is due to change by year's end, when Universal will unveil three, as-yet-announced releases to take advantage of the format's web connectivity.
The news came courtesy of Kevin Collins, Microsoft's director of HD DVD evangelism, who outlined the studio's plans to Video Business. Microsoft, Toshiba and Universal have been the primary backers of the HD DVD format since it's launch last year.
"We are still scratching the surface of what we are capable of doing, but Universal is leading the format in terms of exploring all the different aspects that are out there now," said Collins. "By the holidays, there will be a lot more features."
To date, Blu-ray titles have featured relatively little interactivity, as its BD-Java technology is still being tweaked for implementation on future titles. Of course that hasn't stopped Blu-ray from taking the sales lead over HD DVD over the last two months, following the introduction of the Blu-ray enabled PS3 and a steady stream of new disc releases.
Hoping to reverse the trend, Universal will continue to promote existing HDi-based interactivity in the form of its "U-Control" feature on two key upcoming HD DVD titles, 'Children of Men,' due March 20, and 'Smokin' Aces,' which streets April 17. The studio promises features even more advanced than those seen on earlier "U-Control" titles such as last September's 'The Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift.'
On 'Children of Men,' viewers get a chance to see the film's featured video billboard advertisements in their entirety, with the HD DVD allowing users to click on each of the approximately ten billboards and watch the complete ads.
'Smokin' Aces,' meanwhile, will integrate Google Earth to identify specific locations of assassins during the film.
We'll keep you posted as Universal's HD DVD plans continue to heat up throughout the rest of the year.
A complete list of all currently-announced Universal titles can be found in our HD DVD Release Schedule. Stay tuned...

HUH? PSBox said "Online WTF", i simply answered PSBox's question......................
HD-DVD will gain ground once chinese manufactured players are released plus

[QUOTE="PaintballinDude"][QUOTE="m3Boarder32"][QUOTE="PaintballinDude"]But blu rays sell 3:1lilrush
No it doesn't
Im going to say, i knew he was going to pull up 3 month old data...Paintballin said "bluray's sell 3:1" and that's innacurate, what he should have said is "Bluray outsold HD-DVD 2.5:1 in January"
Also, the figure 3:1 is wrong, 100 is not 3 times more then 38.36......100 is 2.5 times more then 38.36
Here is the main part from the article:
"The actual figures say that for the week ending January 7, for every 47.14 HD-DVDs movies sold, there are 100 Blu-Ray movies sold. But the gap is getting bigger, with the week ending January 14 providing statistics to show that the amount of HD-DVDs sold is more like 38.36 for every 100 Blu-Rays sold. These figures include only video sales and no games. "
So i ask, why does this article site the week ending January 7th, January 14th, but not the week ending the 21st? Hmm maybe because the gap got smaller the next week?
And from January - April there has been no numbers bragging about how BD is still outselling 3:1? (was actually 2.5:1)
That was too easy 8)
Im winner of the internet
people still doesnt change the fact blue ray has spiderman and disneypalaric8
Disney actually announced quite awhile ago they were discontinuing the Blu-Ray deal.
So far, HD-DVD player sales have been ahead of Blu-Ray in Europe, although the launch of Sony's PlayStation 3 games console, which comes with an inbuilt Blu-Ray Disc player, may change this. Old and the sales in Europe are hardly exciting (HD-DVD reportedly had monthly sales of roughly 8.5K in the UK in January).HD-DVD will gain ground once chinese manufactured players are released plus

If it had better technology behind it...yes. Because it doesn't and has fewer A and AA games, no it doesn't.Matrix Trilogy comes to HD DVD next month. That should sell fairly well.
Hypothetical question. Since the Wii outsells PS3 3:1, does that mean the Wii is better?

Going from 2.5:1 in January to 2:1 in February is not good for BD, they wan't to see the ratio get bigger and bigger every month, not smaller and smaller.
