After the 7 hours you'll have spent on this game you'll be out over $60!

That's like 3 movies @ $20 each.

Hmmm... I guess the Sony/Blu-ray biz IS set on the movie industry model. That's what all the extra space on the disc is for anyways, right?

That means if you worked for $10 an hour (lets consider the average hourly rate for GameSpotters) that would be some what equivalent to agreeing to work 7 hours for this 7 hour AA game....Hmmmm... What's an hour of your life worth?

You could probably spend that moeny on God of War 2 and have a much better time by the sound of the review.

Go back and replay with a harder difficulty. I did the same with GeoW.

Money? Doesn't matter, I went to college, got a pretty good job, so it's a non-factor.

considering most movies don't last more than 2 hours.

I'd say $60 for 7 hours of fun is ok.

So, you'd simply settle for that? Well, apparently there are other action games that score higher (even down loadable games) and cost less.

Tell me why are you such a fan of this title?

Is it the jumping techniques?

The multiplatyer?

The online play?

The fact that it was origianlly an Xbox 1 title and well... it was delayed for years...I guess to add extra content???

Well, I'm waiting for this game for following reasons.

Movie like presentation.

Good combat system that is well balanced.

Unique combat gameplay that is designed to imitate Chinese martial arts movie.

As for jumping techniques, I don't need to jump to enjoy a game. This isn't a platform game. The game focused on action so by taking away jumping, it allows me to focus on combat instead of platform elements of games. I think that is fine and shows the game developers had a direction in their mind when it came to designing their game.

Also how many games of this type have multiplayer? Multiplayer don't matter to me and it shouldn't matter to most people who are interested in games such as this. You don't see people complaing about lack of multi-player for Ninja Gaiden.

Ultimately, this game looks fun and that's all it matters. If length mattered, I wouldn't have played all those great NES games, or even recent games like Ico.

As long as it provides great experience for me, the game deserves a purchase in my book.

like you said imitates chinese martial arts WITHOUT JUMPING???

that acrobatic stuff is what made those Chinese martial art films popular!

There are better games for less money, they are longer and the action is'nt held back for A MOVIE LIKE EXPERIENCE

I want to play games, not watch the emptyness of a Blu-Ray disc game or a $35 Blu-Ray disc movie

Acrobatic moves can be done without jump button, and Heavenly Sword has plenty of that.

Also $65 movie? no movies are 7 hour long. Anime series are often that long and most anime series collection costs around there, so even if you try to make it sound like it is expensive it justifies it's price. Also 7 hours = 3 or 4 movies. buying 3 movies = 60 dollars so what's the problem again even with your logic?

Also what's your better games? Halo? I hated Halo and dislike playing FPS. I didn't enjoy Ninja Gaiden too much either due to limited camera view and the pacing was too fast for my taste.

Heavenly Sword demo was fun to me, and it looks like a game I will enjoy very much. So why do you try to convince out of me from buying it?

Also that movie like presentation is what I WANT. I don't want games that makes me feel like I'm actually in the enviroment like Half-Life 2 because I find those games boring. I wouldn't like Bioshock either probably because it doesn't go with my taste.

Not everyone has to agree with your taste in gaming. To me Heavenly Sword will be more enjoyable game than Bioshock.

With intereting combo system and counter system, I wouldn't say it is button masher.

If you mash your buttons probably most of them would be blocked and in higher difficulty you won't be able to complete it. It does have frame based combat system that requires good timing.

Also it is action game, it is doing what it supposed to do. That's like complaining FPS is nothing but walk, point and shoot. Same moves over and over ....

If us the consumers agree that this is acceptable, then we will be seeing more and more "Great Looking Games" that are short and pretty much button mashers that give a streamlined movie experience.

WE should VOTE with our pocket books and not buy this stuff--in the very least NOT FOR $65!!!

The question is, is it even worth renting?

Well obviously the demo was easy.

If you play Virtua Fighter 5 on easy, you can just smash your buttons and win every round.

Instead of just mashing buttons, if you tried to understand the combat system, you could've seen why the combat engine is fairly deep.

At least there's a death penalty.

Come on!! We're gonna pick this game apart like this? It looks great, it plays great, the story is great, what's wrong here? So, its a little short. Most adventure games aren't worth a puchase. And that counts Bioshock. So, slow down a little there haters.

Its about time we started praising games for being as long as they have to be instead of demanding they artificially increase their length. It wasn't a valid criticism against Gears and it isn't against this game multiplayer or no.

Two of my most played games of all time (Super Castlevania IV & Demons Crest) are easily beatable within six hours and games actually cost more for SNES, especially when you consider inflation.

Its not the length but the quality, sure a thirty minute game would be bad (and should be downscored) but a seven hour title is perfectly acceptable if the gameplay is good enough (and judging by the reviews thus far it certainly is).

Onimusha: DoD's I could consider a good game if not for the artificially increased length, instead I consider Genji: Dawn of Samurai considerably superior because the gameplay is solid and the length is just where it needs to be despite being short.

Game length unless it is extreme is not a valid criticism.

any multiplayer game you play, you basically do the samething over and over and over again.

Also Heavenly Sword does have unlockable moves and contents.

And don't talk as if other games don't charge you for downloadable contents.

dude even I can't go back to playing a game more then 3 times i mean in gears i did it in coop with my friend in real or when he was at my house and it was fun but i couldnt imagine going through gears twice, if you can play games in single player over and over again then no need to be so defensive because what does his opinion matter?

GAMESPOT

Heavenly Sword feels like a summer action flick. It's full of nonstop action, and it looks terrific. Unfortunately, it's over far too quickly.

  • Superb presentation and excellent acting make the game feel like a movie
  • Having three different attack stances works well and keeps the combat fresh
  • Sixaxis motion controls are implemented nicely
  • From the moment it starts until the moment the credits roll, the game never lets up.

  • So short it can be finished in an afternoon
  • Not enough variety to the bad guys' design and attacks
  • Some bosses feel a little cheap
Hmm, I must be reading this wrong, it talks about the game being short and lacking in variety of enemies but it doesnt say its boring anywhere. Infact it says the combat is fresh and that the game never lets up. Sounds great to me, last time I check 8.0=Great.

Depends on the game, but usually I don't stop playing a game just because I've completed it. How long the story lasts is irrelevant really, what matters is how long you play it. Bought Max Payne 2 and played it for 70+ hours. Bought Kameo for $5 and...let's just say it was barely worth the price.

I'm buying Heavenly Short, later. I love that name btw, it makes sense. Sums up the whole game in two words.

dude even I can't go back to playing a game more then 3 times i mean in gears i did it in coop with my friend in real or when he was at my house and it was fun but i couldnt imagine going through gears twice, if you can play games in single player over and over again then no need to be so defensive because what does his opinion matter?

Microsoft1234

I wouldn't care that much if he was just giving out opinions.

But he was just making many misleading statements so I just wanted to correct those.

I'll rent this great game.

Right now though I'm downloading the crysis beta (leaked onto torrent sites)

Don't say that, you'll be modded I think.

Also: Come to SW Bets... you've lost a bet

Games like Ninja Gaiden come to mind!

Its 1st X-BOX itteration had down-loadable content-- the game had some tournaments that were online...

A super hard mode was unlocked, it had a deep combat system and the original game was 25 hours long!

Now, the PS3 remake is even prettier, longer, REVIEWED HIGHER, AND COSTS THE SAME.

And, that is just a remake... and it takes more advantage of the PS3 than Heavenly Sword.

Well Heavenly Sword also have higher difficulty you can unlock.

As for Ninja Gaiden Sigma, no it doesn't take more advantage of the PS3 system. Heavenly Sword should require more system power than Ninja Gaiden.

[QUOTE="Mordred19"]uh, you know, seeing as it's a game you can play it again. it's not like the game dissapears after you beat it. game are a medium meant to be replayed. TriangleHard

Great!!! Let's play the same 7 hours over and over again while I could have bought a better game!

OR, maybe we'll be lucky and get unannounced downloadable content for only a few $$dollars$$ more.

any multiplayer game you play, you basically do the samething over and over and over again.

Also Heavenly Sword does have unlockable moves and contents.

And don't talk as if other games don't charge you for downloadable contents.

Yeah, but the thing about multiplayer is that each situation tends to be different from the last because you're playing against real free thinking people, instead of A.I. controlled dummies.
