i've been very cautious about thisgame, but after watching gametrailers tv onspike, thepreview of the game looks like nothing but quicktime events. But with that saying the game looks great.

Yeah, the only other game it reminds me of this gen is Ninja Blade. None of the combat is actually normal gameplay, though, unlike in Ninja Blade, so all the combat is through QTE's. I actually like QTE's if they're well done, though. I liked them in Indigo Prophecy and Ninja Blade, but disliked them in most games, because I feel that most of the time they feel shoehorned in. Heavy Rain is my most anticipated PS3 exclusive.
Omg, I just saw Madison doing the stripper dance in undies! Doubley sold!
The producer confirmed nudity, sex, violence, language, etc, will all be in the game. Keep this one away from the kiddies!
Edit: Crap, confirmed to be a 2010 release. :(
I don't know much about this game tbh, but is it even comparable to Shenmue other than QTEs? well all i know is that shenmue's QTE were revolutionary and very well done[QUOTE="hayato_"]
I loved Shenmue
I'll love this.
As long as Im not looking for sailors for about 3/4's of the game. It'll be alright.

This a David Cage game. Anyone who's played Indigo Prophecy/Fahrenheit would know that David Cage focuses on movie like experiences, and hence utilizes QTEs.
Indigo Prophecy was disappointing (mostly because the team had to rush the game). Let's just hope this game is better

the ending was pretty terrible, but everything up to it was great.[QUOTE="hayato_"]

I don't know much about this game tbh, but is it even comparable to Shenmue other than QTEs? I don't either. Im just going off of what I saw at the event they did a while back. Plus I like cinematic presentations with QTEs. The feel and tensionIt will be more than just quicktime events. Interacting with characters to move the story forward will probably be a big part of it. For example, in Fahrenheit you would get into conversations with people and you needed to be careful what you said otherwise the game would end. Puzzle solving and interacting with objects played a part as well.
Its an adventure game. You search for clues and stuff think something like a point and click game but you actually control your character, The QTE part is for action scenes like fighting and escaping from being crused.
From what the David Cage and others that have been working on the game. It will take anywhere from 4-12hrs depending on how you play.So about 3 hours long aswell then.

I guess I can see the appeal, but it's trying to do too much, and I can see it failing hard. It's trying to bridge a gap between games and cinematic stories, and I have a sinking feeling it won't play well, and that the story will probably be subpar in comparison to books and movies. The name also sucks, too. It reminds me of Chubby Rain from Bowfinger
If the story is good and if the lenght of the game is not less than 4 hours. It is going to be a sure buy for me
I'll think of it as a movie.
Indigo Prophecy reminded me of a new age Dragon Lair. I guess Heavy Rain is going to be more of the same.QTE are worst things that could happen to games, its basically an interactive cutscene, requireing no skill to actually play the game

I agree. Not piss poor, but not really emotionally driven or super realistic. They are aspiring actors who David Cage wishes will be recognized in the future. I'm rooting for them :).I just thought the voice acting was piss poor in the new videos, it just felt so flat.

The 3 things I don't like about it is... The voice acting, mouth movement ( Charlie Brown anyone? ) and the over uses of button presses to play the game ( I don't call that playing ).

Well piss poor to what I was expected :P
But it didn't match the drama going on in the scene so I agree... no emotion and totally flat.

[QUOTE="kidonre"]Games can still be deep and great with QTE. Different strokes for different folks I guess. Yea, and after viewing the new vids and reading two of the previews (IGN & 1UP)... This game uses qte's in a way different from any game before it. And the gameplay is SO much more unique than any other game... it seems like it will still be a very intriguing experience. I'm even more interested now than I was before...QTE are worst things that could happen to games, its basically an interactive cutscene, requireing no skill to actually play the game

Reduces the level of interaction. One big scripted sequence with control consisting of simple button commands. It has some major pros and major cons. Personally i'd like to see developers take a different approach. Why do people hate quick time events?

it at least gives you a little more interaction then just watching a movie. I don't really see how you can effectively have scripted events play out so perfectly if you give the user full control, you have to restrict them somehow.
it's like rts's in what other way could you control an entire army without just pointing at another army and letting the computer do the work. I suppose they could do it were you zoom in and take control of a character of choice that would be pretty cool.
"You can move your character in the environment" - that basically renders the topic useless. Also I doubt quick-time events will be simple like in most games. Most games just use it as gimmick for a more cinematic transition, or to spite some players when they thought the game was over(RE5).
I played Fahrenheit, and I thought it was quite interesting. Quick-time events are just well implemented and not tacked on, otherwise it would've sucked. I would gladly play it even now, because it just offers more interesting ideas than most games. Although a game based solely on quick-time, it has by far the most amount of re-playability than the average game.
I think people are also forgetting that Heavy Rain is a more original concept this gen. My taste in games to some might not appeal to other, but one thing I can say without doubt - I would rather play a game with quick-time events than play another shooter (jeez... the market is already over-saturated with those).
