Built for both single-player campaigns and up to four player co-op missions, Helldivers is a top-down shooter set in a satirical and dystopian future where mankind is ruled by a managed democracy. Set in a dystopian future, players fight to protect “Super Earth,” where a managed democracy has blurred the lines between military and government rule. We are losing the war, and the Helldivers are the last line of defense against three invading enemy species. Helldivers focuses on teamwork, as squads battle formidable foes to become Heroes of the Federation. Communication is key; cover your teammates as they crawl to safety and revive your fallen comrades to get them back into the fight. Tactically operate weapons and gear as a team and use the full might of the military with a unique signaling mechanic. Need reinforcements? Send up distress signals and have friends join the action any time. Up to four players can play together, either online or locally around the same television. Helldivers features Cross-Play and Cross-Save functionality, where players on the console of their choice can fight together to survive in an unforgiving environment.

The game is set in a procedurally generated universe where the community must fight three different enemy species to ensure the survival of fictional Super Earth. Gameplay takes place on one of several procedurally-generated open world missions where players must accomplish a series of objectives. The players are required to make their own decisions, where to deploy, in what order objectives should be completed and when to call down certain pieces of equipment, referred to as stratagems within the game. Before missions the players select from a wide variety of weapons, perks and stratagems to accomplish their objectives.
I guess you’re wondering about the campaign? The story? Well, this is something that we want the players to explore. This isn’t just a four player co-op game; it’s a co-op game that relies on the global efforts of the entireHelldivers community. You’ll fight with the community to save humanity and all of your combined efforts, mistakes and heroic deeds will affect the larger campaign; a campaign where every battle counts and victories unlock cool content for all.
Helldivers will be exclusively available on the Playstation family, March 4th 2015 in Playstation Networks Spring Fever Sale.

Price - $19.99 / $17.99 PSN+ during launch week.
My System Wars take on this is that Helldivers is coming from a developer that has already had some very positive success with a game of this caliber (Magicka/PC), albeit in a vastly different setting. If you look at this game as simply another twin stick, brain dead shooter, you'd be missing out on the gameplay depths, developer Arrowhead is known for in the Magicka games. Helldivers seems to have every bit the quality, polish and not so serious, Starship Troopers stylized humor I was hoping for. Their willingness to be less forgiving in difficulty and incorporate friendly fire as a gameplay element has me incredibly excited for the good times ahead.
I think this game is a legit notch in it's belt for war between the ps4 and xbox one and is exactly the type of game and scenario that made me want to buy a ps4 to begin with. I want quality gameplay first type games and this fills that category ten fold. I cant say sony lights the world on fire in their retail efforts. I expect big things from Bloodborne and likewise I sense disappointment in Uncharted, but turning out games across the board, as seen in the spring fever sale make me feel content with the purchase of a ps4. They have a corner of the game market that I dont feel xbox stands toe to toe with.
Also, don't pick on me too bad... I haven't made a hype thread in like 4 years. :P
