360 is the new PS2, people don't want to admit it, but it's true.
If you enjoyed your PS1/2 because of the great variety etc, do your research on games before buying a PS3 out of habit, X360 is getting most of what PS3 gets(mostly minus1st party), plus it's own exclusives, plus a crapload of PC ports not currently going to PS3.X360 is also cheaper and (currently) has a much better online service although you have to pay for it.
If however you are a big fan of Sony's 1st party stuff (which is top notch, God of War, Socom etc), or you are highly interested in it's big name exclusives (MGS4, FF)you may want to stick with them.
PS3 is looking to be the next Xbox, by that I mean it gets its share of awesome exclusives, has better hardware but right now the software is lacking.
As far as the GCN, Xbox, DS thing, that will change with what you choose to buy in the fall. For instance as someone already said, if you plan to buy 360, most (not all, check xbox.com to see which are BC) of the big titles will be playable on your new system. GCN had some really stellar 1st party stuff but you could play that on the Wii. DS isa great handheld but I have found I don't play handhelds much.
