Help: Xbox 360 or PS3?

I have the opportunity to get either a Xbox 360 20GB or a PS3 80GB free through work. Which system would be wiser to get at the current time? I realize this thread has been started many times, but I know that both consoles have been out for quite some time now and want to know which is the best in everyone's opinion. Help appreciated.

Reliability..........? you are baising your opinon on the fact that PS3 has a lackluster of games out, and coming out, AND has HORRIBLE online?

Personally I like my 360, just do not get the "first generation" becuase those are the ones that were rushed out of factories and what not. It has great games, and awesome online play.

Good list. 5x more reliable as compared to the 360, multiplat games are on par if not better than the 360, exclusives are still lacking but 2008 should fix this, and of course, having the winning hd format never hurts if you want to pop in a movie or two.

I should note that the online service for the PS3 is also free. While you have to shell out money ($50/yr) for the 360. Admittedly, it's a nicer service but for those who prefer things free, hard to fault PSN.

Yeah sure Failure rate sucks big time. But you have to think beyond that trouble. It is a great system. I am glad I bought a 360 and not an inexpensive Blu Ray player.

Thier exclusives aren't bad.. unless you look at the bad ones and not the good ones. Uncharted,rachet,warhawk,resistance,heavenly sword(rent please) and NG sigma are all good games.

I agree with you if you don't take into consideration failure rate that he 360 is the better system, FOR NOW. But once PS3 actually starts to get a good lineup, who knows. I know I for one played my PS2 more than the Xbox because it just had better games. PS3 was released how much later than the Xbox 360? So for that reason, the 360 just has a much bigger lineup so far which equates to having more good quality games.

But all this doesn't matter when the system itself breaks and you just have a large paperweight.

I will give you uncharted. But how many freaking ratchet and clank games are there? and Warhawk was battlefield 1942 just a horrible version of it. Resistance was a killzone knock-off and Heavenly sword can be easly be beaten by DMC4.

Since you're getting it for free, get a PS3 and spend your hard earn money on the 360 and some games.

Granted But who wins the race, the person who gets out of the gate first and consistently puts out great games

OR

the person who gets out way later than the other person, and has only a moderate amount of great games, and the only thing they can give are promises like "We promise that MGS4 will be better than any other 360 game"

I am still specticle on the success of the PS3. Once again I wanted a reliable system that always worked, Hell i would buy a PS3 but for right now, as far games, great online play, and over all great satisfaction i would buy a 360.

I'm sorry I just don't believe you've experienced PSN... Your description is EXTREMELY vague... Anyone can come here and say PSN sucks but why don't you go into detail about your experience and explain exactly what about PSN you don't like... I've played Resistance online and I think PSN is great.

welp thats where we are different. I want something that works now and will always work. Something I don't have to worry will break every time I hit the ON button.

Perhaps you can't have a strong opinion on this as me, tho, until your system does break due to it being faulty and asking why this has happened and receiving no anwsers from microsoft, childish cussing and attacks from other members who are lucky enough to not have this happen to them YET, and reading various forums about people that have had this problem but having to pay to have it fixed and then getting the system back just to have it happen again.

Online for games work great on the PS3 but d/ling demos and such is always extremely slow for me. Almost to the point that it isn't even worth it to bother.

Bad interface. No unified friend's list. Unable to talk to your friends during gamplay. No custom tracks, etc., etc. But it does what it's suppose to do: Play games online, but not in the best way.

To TC: if this one console is going to be it for you, then go with PS3. It's reliable and it has pretty good games coming out for it.

Ok I will elaborate.

I have been using XBL for the past 4 years and have been amazed at it's speed, and it's over all performance.

What I would have liked to see on PSN is a better userfriendly setup (sorry i hated the PSP setup and I don't think it works well with the PS3). When I went to go and look for like demos and videos there were SOME demos and they were of games that came out like....... a year ago. When he put in COD4 we had to wait for 3 to 4 minutes just to get INTO a game. I'm sorry that is just WAY to long, It takes my xbox like maybe 30 seconds. When we got into the game, somebod was obviouslly downloading, or hacking which ever it mght be becuase he was lagging to crap out and was making the game horrible. ANd my final pet peeve is that there was only 3 people out of 10 that had mics.

Over all I would rather pay 50 dollars per month for overall bett performance and maintence like XBL than have a free, and just ok online service like PSN.

Your experience is not representative of a true PSN experience. I rarely have to wait more than 30 seconds to get into a COD4 game.

Lagging occurs occasionally but that can be attributed to your Internet connection and not the PlayStation network.

As for the mics, that's certainly true. Very few people have mics and even fewer use them to effectively communicate. If you're looking for a plus, it means fewer 12 year olds spewing invective your way ;)

All in all, there is no doubt in my mind that XBL offers a more unified and polished interface. (Better performance is negligible. I experience lag on both networks and they are both very rare occasions)

It's just that (to me), the polish MS has managed to put into XBL just isn't worth $50 a year to me. Cheapskate? Yeah, I probably am. :P

Online for games work great on the PS3 but d/ling demos and such is always extremely slow for me. Almost to the point that it isn't even worth it to bother.

The only time I've ever had issues downloading when I was DLing a huge demo over 1GB, also sometimes when the update the PSN store you may try DLing a file that everybody else is DLing so it'll slowdown then. Most of the time DLing is fine for me and playing games online has been a great experience for me. I also have an Xbox 360 and DLing stuff from live is very slow sometimes too.

i didn't realize that microsoft discontinued the 3 year warranty!

360. more games, better games, and you don't have to worry about dropping another $75 because mandatory installs fill up your hard drive.shoeman12

Blu Ray (apparent victor of HD)

PS3 is just getting started releasing their big name games. 360 has already released some of their heavy hitters. Personally many of them are overrated IMO. Halo, Gears, etc.

Monthly online fee for Xbox. PS3 is free online

as far as I've read (which is a lot) it is only in regards to the Red Ring of Death issues. No video isn't in this category. This common problem retains the green ring...how lovely.

oh and many have suggested to me causing the system to RRoD on purpose by overheating it. Dunno about doing this. Doesn't this fall under tampering with the system?

It is worth noting that if you want to add a larger HDD to the 360, however, it will cost a lot more than upgrading for a PS3. We have Microsoft's proprietary hardware to thank.

PS3 would be the wise choice. In light of Blu Ray format victory. 360's have the highest failure rate of any console ive ever heard of.

Ultimately though it depends on what games you most want to play I guess you should look at each consoles line- up ,and current library as well as BC library's and choose the console that has the games you want to play most.

Although I like the XBOX 360, and do think at times its graphics are a little better. I like the rest of the setup of the PS3 and believe that Blue-Ray is probably the future. You can just store so much more on a disc, which will in turn make the future games be able to be bigger and more complex. I am going with the PS3, hopefully I won't regret it.rother

I think it's a wise choice.

The PS3 is a much better investment.

The Xbox 360 is unreliable, charges you $100 for a WIFI adaptor, and $50 a year to play games online.

All that stuff is free and included with a PS3 + Blu_Ray support.

No brainer - PS3.

i think you should go with the ps3, it has good games, its reliable, its got blu-ray and the online is free. not to mention that its more expensive then the 360. so why not get it. you can get a 360 from the money you make from work.
