I took a look at the comparison gamespot made and something didnt seem right.  So I made my own comparison.  With all due respect, H2 looks great for an xbox title.  However, after playing H3, the jump is much bigger than initially expected.  Textures, lighting, effects, detail, sound, playability, are all vastly improved in the beta, and to think its just the beta....

Halo2 Snow level-check out the texture on the wall

Halo3-snow level

H2-water.  Compare the area where the rock is in the water.

H3-in motion, the water looks even better

H2-blurry texture compared to

H3-super detailed wall with great texture

H2-compare the ground and foilage

H3-looks almost real.

H2-compare overall detail and lighting

H3-

Anyone with half a brain knows that Halo 3 looks good.  The only ones complaining are the ones who don't matter.

Halo 3 looks better than Halo 2. Especially when it comes to detail on the guns. Environments look better as well. Overall...there isn't much of an improvement. :)

Thank you for taking the time to post these.  I've not played the beta even though I have one of those copies of Crackdown (I suck at Halo multiplayer), but all I have heard is that it is barely better than Halo 2 and looks like crap.  It is nice to see great comparison shots.  Again, thanks!

to be really honest... the beta looks good.. on a 32 inch hd tv... on a bigger screen the jaggies become too appearent.

but it looks much better than people say. Much better than Halo2, much better than Rainbow 6 vegas online and better than resistance singleplayer...(textures)

glad you guys like the shots and the thread.  Halo3 is already an amazing title in beta form, imagine with all maps, final graphics, all modes and weapons....

Sigh...where to begin.  Ok, Halo 3 does look better than Halo 2.  Everyone knows this.  The complaints about the beta have been that the graphical detail of Halo 3 isn't near what was expected.  Those comparison shots for instance.  Look at them closely.  The gun models look to have the same polygon count.  It is a TAD better in the Halo 3 beta.  The water looks a little bit better in Halo 3 beta.  The textures look a lot better in Halo 3 beta.  The last 2 comparison shots don't look all that different.  The graphical difference IMO between Halo 2 and Halo 3 is about the same as the graphical difference between Halo 1 and Halo 2.  That, to me is unacceptable since Xbox 360 is much more of a powerhouse than Xbox.

And, I said this in another thread....this is the God's honest truth.

My PC is 4 years old...I have always had stuttering and framerate problems from hi-def trailer feeds of videogames on gametrailers.   There are ONLY 2 GAMES I have not had one framerate issue with...GUN trailer for Xbox 360 (which looks barely better than GUN on Xbox) and Halo 3.  I'm serious.  Something is wrong with this picture.  This only leads me to believe that the polygon count is very, very low for a high-def game...because framerates dip greatly on trailers for other Xbox 360 games.  My 4 year old PC can run a high-def Halo 3 trailer just fine.  When I tried to run the GeOW trailer and Kameo trailer, the video feed dipped less than 10 FPS.  Other games, it is generally choppy...maybe 15 FPS.  GUN and Halo 3...absolutely no issue whatsoever.  What other explanation for this is there accept that Halo 3's poly count is incredibly low for a high-def game??

Don't bother replying to the above post.  This guy was already humiliated in his own thread:

I think that a lot of people just do not like the art direction of Halo and that causes them to think that it does not look too good.
