Yeah I saw a video about that earlier. Definitely not a very good look for Sony and PSN.

Ive had my info compromised by other means.

Bottom line is its not just Sonys problem. Laws just need to be more strict and people will follow them.

The article reads like it was written by a lemming.

You can do this in a Kindle too, so? Is it a security breach?

What a sad article.

If you don't want info stolen don't share your info with random companies. Hackers can and will get into any system.

Meh. All the big companies suck at this.

Last month my PayPal account was compromised and someone spent $7067 buying Apple Macbooks.

I dont stress anything like that. I knew soneone that worked for an insurance company and this person mentioned people abusing social security numbers.

Did they catch the people? I had that happen once where someone used my info at a target. It was a big thing in chicago, maybe 6 years ago. Ever since then i became really prepared for the next time...which did eventually happen....by people i know. How effed up is that.

In addition to that i have a girl that watches my google/phone activity. Have you ever seen those parenting apps? Stuff like that is easily abused. Ive since put these people in check yet they continue.

I’ve been with Xbox Live since the beginning. Never an issue. I bought a PSN card for my ps3 from a retailer to create a wallet to purchase digital games and it was compromised within a month. Sony customer service refunded my wallet, but told me it was a one time thing. I cleared the account minus a few bucks and that was again compromised buying microtransactions for a game I don’t even own. Haven’t supported Sony since and I have no plans to ever again.

So for this to work, the account info should already be compromised. I guess they should protect users a little more in the event that their accounts get stolen, but ultimately it is the user's responsibility to protect their account.

Yes, I did get my money back. PayPal took care of things.

But it made a mess of my bank account and was stressful beyond belief. They kept refunding me and taking it back , over and over until they got it right. They initially charged me for 4 computers at $1769.00 each. It was made to look like I had purchased the computers from an individual person.

I don't know if they caught anyone. It is apparently some big elaborate scheme and a few other innocent people were connected to it as well, as they were using stolen accounts to make the purchases.

@davillain-: You still need to exercise caution with your wallet because your balance can be stolen too. It’s happened to me with psn - twice. Buy a card that just pays for what you want and leave nothing more than pennies in it.

I only buy just the amount whatever I'm buying such as $60 game and never go over $5 limit and yeah, you can never be careful when it comes to Sony's lack of security.

For some reason i dont stress anything, but that sounds like a doozy. Just remember as a victim, or if people are victimizing you, you have every right to defend yourself and ultimately its on the banks.

I know a lot more about this stuff than i should.

Just waiting for someone to come forward. Its this vicious cycle they choose to create.

*fyi there are precautions you can take*

The worst part of it is the amount of time it wastes.

Here are some facts, cainetao11 is a sad little lem who spends time finding shit on a company he dislikes and has some super strong desire to go onto an internet forum to tell everyone about it. We all know Sony's infrastructure with PSN is a joke (except cows obviously)...

That's why it took them so long to allow username changes, because they couldn't figure out how to do it. And they still came up with a half-ar*ed solution.

Diddo

Anyone could easily dig up XBL hacking of individual users to make a similar argument.

It's really a desperate and last ditch effort to try to cling onto some individual users experience that isn't really a Sony specific issue.

When scrapping the bottom of the barrel trying to find that one thing to criticize about a competing company that you don't think applies to your favorite brand, you need to be shown that you favorite company isn't exempt before you drop the phony outrage and move onto the next last ditch Sony hate propaganda.

So let me show you!

Loading Video...

"...This attack has actually been happening to thousands of individual accounts over the course of several years resulting in millions of fraudulent credit card purchases.

...A Chinese gaming website has been hacking Microsoft accounts since 2015 stealing more than 2 million from users and selling stolen digital goods for profit.

...The website in question is IGSky where you can grab digital goods and currency for a number of popular games on the cheap. IGSky describes itself as a world leading MMORPG service company providing game currency, power leveling, accounts, CDKey and item service for online games.

...When you look at their site they'll sell you all kinds of stuff like Fifa and Madden coins for instance, in fact, you can grab suspiciously low prices on virtual currencies for a ton of other games like Black Desert, CS Go, GTA5, NBA 2k17, Pokemon Go...and Rocket league...according to the complaint MS filed, just about all of those goods came from hacked accounts and in MS's case hacked XBL accounts."

Damn!

What were you saying about your almighty XBL and MS again?

"This company eats shit at this. LMAO at its equal to Live claims"

Uh oh! Quick, deflect and change the narrative...

Lets hear more outrage over Sony's so-called security issues compared to MS XBL hacks which MS themselves report affected thousands of users and caused damages totaling more than 2 million dollars, since 2015? lol that's well into the current generation isn't it?

So much from for that XBL security fallacy xbox fans like to spread. Another one down the drain.

But it doesn't!

It's just that xbox fans are louder about it when it happens to Sony because they made themselves falsely believe that MS's service is above security breaches.

It may be tough to hear, but Sony fans simply aren't that desperate to cling on to these last ditch arguments the same way xbox fans are. That's why it "seems" like it happens to Sony more.

CLEARLY (refer to my last post) MS's infallibility with XBL is easily criticized and nit picked but Sony fans just aren't as desperate for a W in the argument department.

The hypocrisy is palpable whenever these peoples arguments don't pan out.

NOBODY CLAIMED HACKING DOESNT TAKE PLACE ELSEWHERE.

But Live was never down for an entire month, emails sent to subscribers en masse apologizing for being shit like Sony did to me and millions of others in 2011. Everytime an Xbox game DOESNT score over 80 at Metacritic it continues the narrative of no great games on X1.

Well everytime Sony is reported for sucking donkey balls at customer security it furthers the narrative that their network isn't secure.

I don't store CC info anywhere nowadays. It's all secured, but the inconvenience of reporting a suspicious transaction, to having to cancel your card and have one reissued, is a massive pain.

You suck Sony c*ck. Reading your post history shows it.

You've successfully managed to kill off any credibility you might have had with your online security outrage argument.

So when you're shown MS's XBL hacks that cost customers millions since 2015, not last generation, and affected thousands of customers on MS's service it's suddenly ,"no body claimed hacking doesn't happen elsewhere!"?

lol it would have been better to let the thread die instead of doubling down. Good job!

Really?

Now all the bold quotes that you tried to use to against Sony fans you've unintentionally applied yourself with your lightspeed 180 flip flop on your whole online security outrage.
