I have a fairly good PC setup for a high school student living away from home. My GF and I share a fairly good PC with a nice 22 inch monitor and some good speakers. A few days ago I decided i missed my old xbox and went to EB and got myself an X360 with a few games ( I borrow most of the games from my friends. Here are my impressions:

* Games look terrible on Standerd def tv......Now I could get a nice big HDTV for the price i spent on my entire computer setup but i would be in debt for years. Do you think i should invest in one?

* Console gaming is much more relaxing, even on the SDTV. I sat there and completly tuned out in my big comfy chair infront of Forza 2. I do have a comfy computer chair but its no where near this comfortable

* Console gaming is quite expensive too, after adding in the extra contollers, the expensive games and maybe even a HDTV it adds up to much more then that of a good PC setup.

*Online gaming is better on PC........ More options, more customisation, more servers, less children

*PC gaming is more immersive due to being close to the screen and better graphics ( Dont kid yourselves, Games on the X360 have framerate problems and some ugly textures,

These are all my opinion...ur mileage may vary.

I think it would be smarter to hook it up to your computer monitor, no point of spending another $1k just to play couple of games :)

High def is definitely worth it, and you can get a pretty nice tv for under $1,000 easily....just look at some of the threads at slickdeals.net

If you want to game on a comfy chair and want a 360 style experience, just get a 360 controller for your PC. That way, you'd have the perspective of playing a console with all the benefits of using the PC (mods, maps, free online, etc).

I have done this with my PC. I played Gears of War and right now I'm playing Bioshock. Furthermore, with a PC, you have better resolutions and textures.

It is a no brainer.

Then if you want the immersivness of traditional PC gaming, use the keyboard and mouse and sit a foot away from the monitor.

PC gaming: You just can't lose.

maybe its just me, but whenever I try using my 360 controller with a game like hl2 a tiny tap on the analog will send me in circles, and I can just put the controller down and keep moving for a minute or so......it looks like my character is drunk. It could be that there is something I need to configure, but I'm not sure.......the sad thing is I can aim much better with a controller, but I'm stuck using a mouse because my controller isn't working very well for the moment with. Sigh......i guess that means my skills with the mouse will just have to improve

Why dont you hook your 360 to monitor with a VGA cable, and channel sound through your speakers?

Yeah, that's what I do and imo it's a good alternative if console isn't a good option for you. Now that the 360 controller has support in most new games it's really not a hassle to use it, and you can switch between it and KB/M instantly.

For e.g. GeoW recognices it and the tips automatically point to 360 buttons or KB keys depending which one you are using. It even turns off the rumble when you start using KB/M and back on when you pick up the 360 controller without touching any settings. And since I'd be playing consoles on the same monitor I play PC on, the experience ain't really that different for me anyway.

Sounds weird, I haven't actually tried it with HL2, but from shooters at least GeoW, Bioshock and Crysis were just fine with it. Plus I play all my sport and racing games with it and never had the slightest issue. If it does that in all games there's something wrong with...something... You can prolly check if it works in control panel > game controller and perhaps try to recalibrate it, at least if you're using XP.

What is it with you bitter people constantly telling others to 'blog it'? If there was no room for opinion in SW, then it would be a heck of a lot smaller.

Appreciate that someone posted an unbiased opinion that will hopefully lead to a constructive debate! Isn't that what SW is for?

Dont use MS calibration software, use better user made software that allows much more tweaking, and offers more options.

He could have posted this in another thread and I won't care, but I don't think he needs to post this by creating a new thread

I'd luv to give u a link, but I cant seem to find one now to the particular sofware im thinking of.

It twas very interesting though, used it a while back to calibrate my PSP to PC as a wireless gamepad - the software would read all the buttons, analoug sticks ect, and you could to huge amounts of customisation and modifiying of the controls to suit your tastes...

To be honest, children aren't the problem. It's elitist, cheating, griefing, racist douchebags. There more than a fair share on all platforms.

Oh so when a console fanboy raves about his platform its console wars, but when a PC gamer just states facts about a platform its suddenly smug elitism?

you could get a xbox vga cable to plug that peice of crap to your nice 22inch monitor, you will get much better results than sdtv.

you can probably find the cable online, or in places like best buy. if you monitor is hdcp compliant, you can use the component xbox cables for it.
