- Paid mods
- New titles are often cheaper on Amazon
- Gabe Newbell
- Lack of console exclusives
- High Price of annual hardware upgrades
So have you guys begun to have any doubts? Contemplated turning in your antiquated PC for a sleek, slimlined console?

I'm not sure what any of that has to do with trusting valve
Valve has a monopoly over PC gaming. So they call the prices. Sure they have big sales on 20 year old games, but Amazon and other retailers usually sell new releases at a much cheaper price
I dont trust any company.

Hahaha good one, you sold me with your flawless argument,im in the process of changing right now. :)
Who needs a competitive market driving prices down and a fully open and customisable gaming experience with modding, upgradable hardware etc and many more games and genres of games, when i can have a restricted closed platform with a few hundred games and all my decions made for me by a huge company, i mean its no competition really is it.

Are you high?
Valve does not have the monopoly on PC gaming, and hardware has nothing to do with them.

If there are companies selling the same products at a cheaper price then that indicates that Valve doesn't have a monopoly on PC gaming prices or PC gaming as a whole. They may have the biggest catalog of games, but that barely hinders things especially when sites such as Gog, GMG, and more exist, plus Origin and even Uplay counts. Sure Steam has DRM and this paid mod policy really sucks, but it's not like Valve controls the price of PC components or has free-reign over every game on their storefront.
For the last 3 years Valve has focused on a console with a market microtransactions in which they profit from other peoples work.
Meanwhile their fan-base have been waiting X years for a sequel for Halflife 3 with no valid reason for it not existing.
Overall: Valve have built up pc gaming, then crushed it on a whim.
Absolute bastards.
I think you need to learn the proper use of the noun "monopoly." Last I checked, I've been ordering my PC games through GOG. While the GOG doesn't have a community feature yet, they will.
Do I trust Valve? Steam is the best gaming platform there is. It still doesnt stop me from buying all the consoles as well. But PC is on top, not even close. And console digital stores need to learn how to match steam sales.
Also, I buy many of my STEAM games from other sources for cheaper like GMG. Still play them on steam.
Now if Valve would continue to MAKE games that would be great hello Half life 3
Don't know. I never got on the Valve bandwagon....... or Blizzard's for that matter. And yet, I'm still having fun on the PC.
Uh, yeah. I still like Valve as much as I like any other corporate company. Also, I like them a bit more because they are a privately owned company. Steam is still one of the best (if not THE best) gaming platform of the bunch. What as silly ass question. Why would you "trust" a corporation?
Was this supposed to be another lame shot at PC gamers somthing? lol
"Annual upgrades"?
this isnt what most pc gamers do. i been using the same ddr3 memory and cpu, motherboard, ssd's etc since 2011, and can still max out games at 1080p. The only thing i've had to upgrade in the last 5 years is my video card. The only people that do annual upgrades are people with too much money or time. Its just not worth it to me to gain some performance and waste 300-500+ dollars on a new video card every year. The fact you think annual upgrades is required shows quite a bit of ignorance.
Onto trust with Valve, i don't trust them and i never have. Time will tell what they will do.
>Trusting a company.
A company is a means to an end, they give me games, I give them money and our interaction ends. I never actually cared about or trusted them in the slightest manner.
But yeah, I've disliked valve for quite a while now. They've proven to be tiers above other companies in terms of avarice.
I trust them to take my money when I proceed to check out.
These are companies, I don't have personal relationships with them. If they're selling something I want, I'll buy it.

are you even trying to make sense?
I trust no company, but I enjoy their platform. Also, I laughed at the annual upgrade part. I don't know anyone who upgrades every year and a rig can last you awhile with good settings. Hell, if you don't care to turn down the resolution they can last a lot longer.

That is a silly notion, since the "other companies" are owned by shareholders whose primary interest is money and nothing else, and some of them treat gaming as simply another investment alongside oil, movies, medicines, etc.
Valve is a private company, which is more than can be said for even CD Projekt.
Also, I laughed at the annual upgrade part.
Yeah, that's always some funny shit to read. Since 2010 I've upgraded my GPU once, just earlier this year. All the other shit? No upgrade and it's looking like I won't need to for years to come.
Not really, they try to push through with paid mods to fund the "creator" when it turned out that Bestheda was getting most of the profit. Thats ridiculous, on top of that they think they can walk on water with the Steambox and delay HL3 and L4D3 for years! Steam is still fun nonetheless but, I'm starting to question my faith in Gaben.
I trust no one.
WTF bro?

"Valve has a monopoly over PC gaming."
Spoken like a fakeboy with no experience in PC gaming. There is a great deal of competition in the PC market and Steam is NOT the only vendor for digital distribution. There's Good Old Games and Green Man Gaming, to say nothing of the 3rd party CD Key vendors where you can buy download codes to redeem on any of these sites.
Not even sure what you mean by "console exclusives" for PC, but in case you haven't heard, PC has plenty of it's own exclusives that consoles don't get; WOW, Guild Wars 2, ARMA series, Planetside 2, Path of Exile, Pillars of Eternity, Total War series, StarCraft II, Lost Ark, Overwatch, Stalker... the list goes on.
And finally.... "annual upgrades".
Really?
Really?
REALLY???
You're actually going with this one? And I suppose you'd like to argue that a gaming PC has to cost a min $2500, and that games need to be completely "maxed out" to beat the console games, while you're at it?
I'm not advocating trusting Valve or any publisher, but with erroneous and misleading statements like these, you are even less trustworthy than EA or Activision.
I'm thankful for my buddies for saving my ass sometimes but I don't think I can lend them my credit card for safe keeping.
i never trusted Valve.HL is overrated and Gabe Newell is not a holy figure of gaming.
they are just another greedy company no different than EA,Activision or Ubisoft
I only use steam cause i am forced to but i do not buy my games from there.I usually get them from retail copies or through key sites.
I just use it to play games. Some sales are nice too. But boxed games here in Poland usually are 50% cheaper than on Steam, so I rarely buy anything there unless it's some massive sale.
And trust? Nah. It's still one big DRM service and I haven't been trust Valve since the day they decided to blackmail their whole EU userbase with threat of loosing all their games just to get around a tribunal's verdict that would be inconvienient to them.
Honestly, the only DD service I trust is GOG.
Plus I'm just steam user, not a fan. I have no problem running those games from uPlay or Origin
That said...turn PCs in for consoles? Nah. From my perspective consoles' line up has been utterly terrible this gen
Sure I trust them. I love Steam, and I love Valve games (wish they just made more of them.
Also what does valve have to do with the cost of annual hardware upgrades? Who upgrades every year other than the few PC gamers that have to have the latest and greatest? Hell I don't think I've upgraded my computer in like 5 years and I can still play pretty much every game out there on at least high settings.
Also Amazon has not been that cheap on PC games lately like it once was. I guess they have given up trying to compete with Steam.
I trust them to take my money when I proceed to check out.
These are companies, I don't have personal relationships with them. If they're selling something I want, I'll buy it.
This
I don't trust Valve's motives and direction anymore and I don't even classify them as a game developer, they've become quite shitty over the last 5 years and only concerned with financial pillaging.
They don't really do anything anymore, it's just money, money, money, money with the least amount of effort coming from them.
Not sure what this has to do with trust.
They provide a product I feel is worth my time and money. I will continue to trust them until they make a drastic change that somehow limits my access to my library.
Valve is a greedy sack of shit company like all the other gaming companies.
yea pretty much, they are just better at PR than most of them.
But yea its pretty clear everything they do is in the quest for maximum profit, they are just a little more devious about it.
Say what you will about EA, but Origin is not a bad platform at all and at least they still make games
None of that has anything to do with Valve. And no, there are many other places to get games on the PC with competitive prices to Valve.
