So, the other day I was at my friend's house, who is a PC gamer. We sit down to play some Street Fighter IV and just as I'm about to perform an ultra, this pops up:

(well not EXACTLY this but it looked similar)

I ask my friend what it was and he says it's the "Blue ScreenOf Death" and proceeds to explain it happens occasionally while you are using the Microsoft operative systems (that evening it happened three more times BTW).

I've heard countless times about the "Red Ring Of Death", and it honestly isn't a problem, because you get three years warranty, but I have never seen "Blue ScreenOf Death" take the heat it deserves, and it looks to me it's an issue which makes gaming on PC unbearable.

These are rare and are usually very fixable, i haven't had one since my RAM was dodgy which was fixed by replacing it.

Last system I had that threw BSODs was a P55 w/ an X-Fi Titanium. Not exactly high-end hardware, but not ancient either.

It's been almost a decade since the last time I had a BSOD while playing a game. And all I had to do to fix it was restarting my system.

Haven't seen that in years...not since I had Windows XP. Those are also very fixable (usually costing nothing). With that said, I am on my 3rd Xbox 360 and 2nd network adapter. PC is far superior to the 360 in both performance and stability in my experience.

Well you're friend obviously knows what he is talking about.

All MS OS get occasional BSOD you heard it here first folks !

Yeah RROD is no problem at all, it only turns your console into a brick.

The few times ( I guess 2) a BSOD happened to me in the 15+ years I use computers it was fixed by simply restarting the PC, yeah RROD is much less severe

My mum was using my computer, not sure what she did but it then got blue screen (first time I had seen it in years) took about 4 minutes to fix.

RROD makes your console into a brick. You might as well make a thread about how if you throw your PCout of a window it might break.

I've "fixed" rrod 360s, lots of em, nothing a drill, a heatgun and some washers, and some good thermal paste can't fix... though how long the fix lasts is questionable, have to do it like every 1-2 years.

Ever wondered that the problem could be with his particular PC? I haven't seen a BSOD in like two years, and the last one in 2009 was because of a **** webcam driver conflicting with Skype. Never faced BSODs when gaming. This guy needs to get his RAM checked.

Seriously tho, BSOD doesn't happen much anymore.

My PS3 seems to freeze every other day and my 360 sounds like a helicopter because it was built in a factory where they had to install windowguards to keep workers from committing suicide.

I know TC's little secret too.

The next day he went over to his other male friend's house and as he sat on his lap looking to get comfortable, they tried to boot up an xbox 360, and this is what they got:

It's been several years since I've seen one, they used to be more common. Basically it amounts to a system crash, normally because of either a weak system or some sort of hardware fault.

Blue screen of death is really rare. Usually it means that there is something wrong with your PC and you should check it before doing anything else. During last 5 years that I can remember I've never got that.

BSOD basically means you've done something wrong - you're trying to play something beyond the capabilites of your hardware, or you've overclocked something beyond the recommended limit without cooling it properly, or something like that.
