[QUOTE="SpaceMatt"]If the cut-down PS 3 counts at $399, then the cut-down 360 counts at $279
Also, the Premium 360 is $350 now, not $399. I don't know if that was intentional or not, but if you're going to criticize fanboys for mis-quoting prices, well, good job yourself

The OP was actually aplying logic into the equation. It's not whether it is a cut down version or not, it is how comparable any SKU is to another. If the PS3 that is cut down comes with everything you expect on a Premium 360 included in the bundle, then comparing it to a core 360 with no hard drive would be a fanboys mistake. The core 360 isn't comparable to any SKUs out there.
No, because the $279 model X360 is probably the worst value out there. I actually feel sorry for anyone who buys one. Personally MS should discontinue it, it really hurts all X360 owners to have one system with no Harddrive.

They are both game systems, correct? In that their main purpose is to play games, no? Does the $280 Core play games? Yup. Sure does. Does the $400 PS3 play games? Yup.
They are comparable as game systems. You all keep comparing them as entertainment devices, and marketing PR aside, these machines are game systems. They are meant to play games. The other stuff is all well and good, but for the sake of discussing game systems, is completely worthless.
And, value is assigned by each individual person, based on what they want out of something and/or what they expect to get back. That is precisely the reason that many felt that $599 was too high, because they did not feel that they got enough value for that asking price. On the flip side, the Wii is costly for its hardware, but people are overwhelmingly voting with their wallets that they sinf the machine offers $250 or more worth of value.
Value differs from person to person, and is not really linked to the MSRP.
