Every time we've seen Scalebound, it's looked bad; horrible framerate, clunky combat, stupid shoe-in coop modes and awful bosses. Its counterpart, Nier: Automata looks better despite having a lesser budget and development time.

Kamiya has never made a bad game, he's made really fantastic and revolutionary games. I find it hard to believe Scalebound looks this bad from a man with such a resume, I'm thinking Sony made an under the table deal with Kamiya to hold back and his hatred for Xbox only sweetened the deal.

Don't worry Scoprio will fix it, original Xbox owners get used to sub 30FPS.

I don't think so. Lol wait and see the finish product before we all speak. Maybe is because scalebound is Xbox only and Xbox is pretty American only console so he thought that making the main character look like Justin beiber will be cool since he is so popular lol

To be honest both games are not impressing me at all, but I felt similar with Bayo2 and then played it and... wow.

Kamiya probably compromised his vision to fit what MS thinks would best suit their xbox fanbase. This is most likely the result.

Doubt anyone is that unprofessional... On the other hand I always found it interesting how the 360 versions of the Silent Hill collection and the MGS collection performed worse on a less complex machine.

Just for comparison sake let's be realistic about how MS handles devs.

  • Look at Rare for example, when with Nintendo...they made some all time favorites greats
  • When they went to MS? Ended up being tasked with creating kinect animals and avatar side projects.

Point?

MS doesn't give their devs a free reign of creativity like Sony and Nintendo do with their devs. MS always seems to curve, redirect or out right force their devs to create a certain type of game.

It's shocking how bad the recent gameplay looks to me but I'm not really surprised by the shifts in the game since it's a MS exclusive.

This thread is dumb, not even gonna acknowledge TC's bullshit.

However, a lot of people are saying that Scalebound looks bad. Well, yeah, RPGs tend to demo pretty badly in general. I'm not saying we shouldn't be cautious, but a few bad showing aren't enough for me to write this game off.

@casharmy: What about Kameo, Perfect Dark Zero, two Viva Pinata games and Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts? That's all released under Microsoft and all of them got scores 8 or above on Gamespot.

@SOedipus: Nuts & Bolts wasn't exactly a sequel in the vein of the first game and Tooie. It was a very drastic departure.

I think it's just badly presented. It looked bad yes. But this is the game he wanted to make a long time ago, his dream game according to him.

It's the first time I'm disappointed by a kamiya game as well, but it is kamiya and I will reserve judgement for the final product before I write him off.

@Salt_The_Fries: Perfect Dark Zero and Nuts and Bolts are horrible games nobody wanted. Kameo is forgettable as are the Viva games. Compare that to their earlier games with Nintendo (and sega to an extent).

It's not just that tho, it's the entire tone and feel of the looks to be in shambles.

Ok, I didn't expect some kind of amazing story, but I did expect an exploration type game with a heavy focus on story. But this "hip" new age teen rocker act of the character is really off putting and clashes with the setting and tone of the game imo. The dialogue... "hardly seems like a fair fight, just one of you against all of us...let's go big guy" is really cheesy. I don't think I could take too many catch lines like this for a game I'm trying to be immersed in. It's supposed to be a fantasy RPG but everything about the character suggests an attempt to be something else.

On gameplay, they have the main guy calling out EVERYTHING the player needs to do as if they don't think players could figure these things out on their own. It's kind of insulting to listen to when even games like The witcher doesn't hold your hand to that extent. I don't know when things went wrong but this once hyped game (by many sony fans like me) now looks like a disaster.

I can't fall back on story with that cheesy character and half baked lines he has and I can't fall back on gameplay with the blatant hand-holding.

I Don't want to rain on anyone's parade and the game could still be great for some people, but the game kinda fell off the rails for me according my perspective as a JRPG fan.

@vfighter: Kamiya would say: You are a son your mom didn't want :P

I beg to differ. PD0, I can accept your opinion but I loved Kameo and Nuts&Bolts as well as Pinata games. I spent 80h with Nuts & Bolts.

Kameo? That game itself was garbage but proved as a technical showpiece for 360 hardware, but nothing more.

I never played Viva (absolutely no desire) or Banjo (looked uninspired ) so I never played those.

Blink the Time Sweeper >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Kameo IMO

(yes I know Blinks was a critical flop but was a great games in my opinion) Rare didn't make waves with any of their MS branded releases. Point is just using name brandings like Perfect Dark that doesn't stop MS from influencing devs according to their vision.

Personally I DO think MS was open to dev creativity when xbox first came on the market (truly had some great original games..like Blinx) But the lack of critical success from many games then has affected MS's current outlook prompting them to try to direct/mold games to fit a specific demographic and sometimes that leads to issues.

Microsoft likely forced him to change the main protagonist(no female lead allowed), throw in shitty music and force co-op. Platinum games never had a focus on co-op now it has some bootleg level Monster Hunter shit going on.

I guarantee this wasn't his vision...

@freedomfreak: Any one with working eyes and ears can see this is a bastardized version of what this game should have been. It was supposed to be about a young girl and her Dragon, but that would not fly with Xbros.

@freedomfreak:

Happy now? He sold out his original vision to get it funded...

Also LOL if Kamiya actually thinks Drew is a strong character. Might be the worst new protagonist this generation.

@StrongBlackVine: Nothing in that article states that Microsoft had anything to do with the changes of the game. Those were early prototypes.

@freedomfreak: I enjoy shuttingclowns like you down. Yeah prototypes that shopped to publishers and rejected twice. You are not very bright. Sure Kamiya thinks the shitty music and tacked on MP in this game is great too. He sold out.. deal with it. Making a fool myself by winning just about any argument with the low IQ people on here?
