Apparently, rather than being original, or having any class, Mr Konami has just said "Bugger it, let's do Uncharted".

http://www.gamespot.com/articles/metal-gear-creator-says-his-new-project-is-action-/1100-6439666/

Hideo Kojima's next game, the first since his high-profile departure from Konami, will be an action game that appeals to fans of Uncharted and The Division.

Speaking in an interview with Japanese gaming publication Famitsu, as translated by Gematsu, Kojima said the project may not seem all that remarkable when it is announced, but people will understand it better when they play it.

"It's an amazing game," he said. "While not to say that it's open-world, users who enjoy today's AAA games (The Division and Uncharted, etc) will be able to easily enjoy it.

"When it is announced, you might think, 'That's not outstanding,' but you'll understand when you see it and play it. The genre is action."

In the same interview, the Metal Gear creator said the development team is creating the plot, characters, and game systems "all at once."

"Since certain parts are fairly new, we cannot help but experiment," he added.

The game, which does not have an official name yet, is being created in partnership with Sony. As such it will be a PlayStation console exclusive, but will also be available on PC.

In the interview, Kojima discussed his deal with Sony, saying that "offers came in from all over the world, but he opted for Sony because they showed faith in him.

"[Other studios] use a Hollywood system, and I don't like doing detailed presentation. From there, I wondered who would put their faith in me with just a rough concept, and [Sony] was who I was looking for. We get quite a lot of freedom and they're really easy to work with."

Kojima founded a new Kojima Productions studio to develop the game. It has been suggested the game will be the first in a franchise that could have anime, manga, and toy tie-ins.

An all new saga from the master himself. Bring it on. After MGSV I can safely say I'm good on the stealth genre.

It's Kojima, I have faith that he'll put his own spin on a lot of things. At face value a lot of Metal Gear Solid V's gameplay has similarities to most open world games, right down to Far Cry's scanning and marking thing. But then you actually play that game, and realize it provides so many more options than any one of these other open world games even pretends to come close to. That and he usually comes up with an enjoyable set of game mechanics, if he's going to choke on something, it'll be the scenario designs or something.

My bigger worry is if he goes back to bombarding me with his cutscenes, because he's a shit writer, he always has been. Metal Gear Solid 3 being good, is like a fluke. A product of self-aware camp that overcomes Kojima's Kojima bullshit.

I always felt his self awareness is what saved his writing. Every MGS basically lets you know it's a game. It's a wink and a nod not to take it seriously. Because yes it's ridiculous nonsense and he knows it. Much like the drama in a wrestling match (I don't watch wrestling.)

to compete in AAA market. developers copy 3 games. Call of duty, Assasssins creed and Uncharted. EA's COD is battlefield and titanfall, EAs assassins creed is coming soon, EA's Uncharted star wars is coming. kojima is joining EA, activision and ubisoft.

If we haven't seen and completed the game; we can't really judge it yet.

I have confidence considering Kojima isn't a copy/paste developer we get so often from Activision/EA/Ubisoft.

The wrestling comparison might be the most fair, because it's basically like that. It's self-awareness doesn't really change how shlocky it is, especially because Kojima's games absolutely have their take things seriously stretches to, for the sake of being "post-modern".

Although at least wrestling had The Great One.

There is decent AAA variety in WRPGs (Deus Ex, Fallout, Witcher 3). Gladly PC has some AAA variety in the form of strategy and sim games as well. But it does have some MMO cloning issue.

so, he's making an action covered based third person shooter... okay, has potential, though some part of me thinks though some exceptional shooters have come out of Japan over the years the idea of what makes a shooter good is still an alien concept to many Japanese developers

Damn, Sony is great. They even allow the game on PC, which is amazing. It's just sad that the Xbox loses another game, they already have nothing this year besides Gears 360 edition.

I agree with Bread on this. It was the self awareness of it being campy that made me love MGS. MGS2 and 4 are the hardest to overcome imo, with the Jack and Rose codec conversations the worst part of 2. Why not just call it MGTitanic?

Also, The Great One played hockey bro. Gretzky never wrestled. ;)

? Were you under the impression this Kojima game is coming out this year? I doubt we'll see this until 2018 at the earliest. And you must really drink the Kool Aid if you think "Sony allowed" it to go PC. Kojima had all the bargaining power in this scenario. As he said, many came from all over the world. He went Sony because he is a loyal Japanese. I respect that.

Kojima did implent cinematic gameplay in mgs4 already(combining narrative and gameply almost seemless) if anything else ND has copied the style for uncharted series.

Hell kojima did it on the first games already, but was fully realized on the forth entry in the series

Do you even know what you're talking about ? Splinter Cell games had impossibly difficult gunplay and some levels have insta-fail on detection. Thief has guns ? The bow is only useable on helmet-less enemies. Which don't appear after the first few levels.

He is saying that Blacklist had a level that you are forced to play in First Person view in its entirety. And I agree that it felt off compared to rest of the game, which is in Third Person. He wasn't talking about First Person aiming mode of previous games, that you often use for better accuracy. I don't agree that the game was worse than Conviction though.

In conviction sam fisher is atleast sam fisher. in blacklist he is uncle sam. becoming generic hero

and Mass effect style briefing is out of place. I finish conviction once, never bother to finish blacklist. and knowing ubisoft there will never be good splinter cell game. I bet next game will be reboot and will be fully open world like far cry and will have repetetive side quest and climbing towers.

@ghosts4ever: I don't want to derail the thread but Conviction is definitely not better than Blacklist. I agree that Sam's new voice actor fails to capture the glory of Micheal Ironside from first 6 games (counting Essentials), but other than that it's superior to Conviction in every way.

Conviction has 2 or 3 gadgets, the game is all about going on killing rampage, pistol has unlimited ammo and the game is way too easy. I've finished Conviction 2 times per day on realistic difficulty. Now I don't think that Blacklist is as good as Chaos Theory but it's definitely better than Conviction.

Even the worst level in the game, where you are controlling the black dude in First Person mode (forgot his name), is still better than Iraq level in Conviction. That was a disaster. Conviction went through development hell and the final product shows that. Even their original prototype looked more interesting than the final version.

That tells us nothing other then the fact that it will likely be a third person shooter.

Yeah, that doesn't tell us much other than action and "pew pew pew."

It's Kojima. It's not going to be a by-the-numbers game. His ideas may not always work out, but they're always different. If he made a straight forward TPS I'd be shocked.

Also:

but will also be available on PC.

**** yes, thank you.

What an odd comment. You don't watch it but still mentioned it in your argument. And I assuming you never watched it. I used to watched it during the WWF days(WWE sucks) and the writing/drama was top notch and it was the reason why the ratings was so high during the mid 90's/early 2000s.

@jg4xchamp:"Metal Gear Solid 3 being good, is like a fluke."

MGS3 was just as stupid as 2 and 4. MGS1 was clearly the best in terms of writing/story/cinematics.

How about a modern rendition of Snatcher? I think he did a good job on the original for it's time.

Can we please stop parading Kojima around like he invented gaming. Muh fukr should go somewhere desolate for a while.

It's like the whole Steve Jobs thing. He didn't sit there with a soldering iron inventing the first iPod. Engineers did.

Some people (myself) love the cut scenes ... just because you don't doesn't mean they aren't loved. I thought every MGS was great with the mix of stealth action and actual story. I felt MGS5 was missing this and it also lacked the comm talking that all other mgs games had. MGS4 had the best cut scenes followed up by MGS3.

He already has made games with third person shooting in them. He should be able to do that well.

I don't think anyone will deny that the cutscenes are very well made (terribad writing aside), but when cutscenes start making up almost 60% of the game (MGS4), you have a problem.

I liked the ratio in MGS1 and MGS3. MGS2 was pushing it a bit, but still tolerable. MGS4 was truly more of a movie than a game though, and not even a good movie at that. I used to think people were idiots for saying "Movie Gear Solid", but MGS4 was exactly that.

I was relieved when MGSV turned out to be such a gameplay centric title. Fun fact, MGSV has roughly the same cutscene length as MGS3. It just has a whole lot more game to it. Shit, if Kojima would have scaled up the cutscenes proportionally to match MGS4, then MGSV would have had something like 40+ hours of cutscenes haha. Would have been a fucking disaster right there.

Yeah definitely. MGSV had superb character movement and control, the shooting wasn't shabby either.

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. He's a legendary game developer and a rock star in the industry.
