"interviewed High Voltage CEO and Founder, Kerry Ganofsky about their upcoming title, The Conduit. Finally someone is actually using the Wii hardware to make something beautiful. I hope High Voltage and Sega can send a message out to all those other 3rd parties who are trying to cut a steak off the cash cow by putting out poor quality Wii titles. The Conduit will be the first Wii game since launch that will have hardcore gamers turning their heads. Here's the full interview:

Torrence Davis: Tell me about The Conduit

Kerry Ganofsky: The Conduit is a Wii specific FPS due out in June 2009. You play a secret service agent named Ford. Agent Ford discovers an alien conspiracy in our government about the aliens taking over the planet earth.

TD: How long has the game been in development?

KG: Over 14 months

TD: Do you see a problem with a lot of the Wii games that have been released as far as quality goes?"

the rest is here http://www.thebitbag.com/2009/02/08/high-voltage-stakes-their-claim-and-starts-the-wii-renaissance/

I look around and didnt find anything. though i will warn you some of what he says alot of you wont like.

We also found out there will be no slip screen which is just has crappy has another crappy FPS. Then we found out that Nintendo would not allow them to make LAN games. I will pass just like I said about the other one. No slip screen no buy.

The first battle Wii devs have to go through is developing more games of this sort for the Wii. The Conduit may or may not be a steeping stone for that.

The second battle, which i would somewhat claim to be the major problem is the fact that the Wii's hardware is basically a ps2 on steroids. Even if the Wii does get many fps's, can the majority of the hardcore crowd who owns a ps3, 360 or pc revert back to crappy graphics? Gamers generally don't turn back. They may continue playing a classic despite crappy graphics such as Counter Strike 1.6 and Starcraft but only because nothing in the market is better. But i can't see gamers playing something graphically superior and revert back to something which looks a generation behind.

Yeah I kinda felt bad playing The COnduit at the NYCC this past weekend. One of the high voltage guys was standing next to me and sort of making excuses for all of the things I was having trouble with. I walked away with a head ache cause the enemies are so damn pixelated when far away. The draw distance is atrocious. Nunchuck grenade throwing was unintuitive and aiming with the wiimote was not exactly a revelation. The only plus side is that this could be a good mindless shooter if thats all you want. But with HOTD overkill why settle for conduit? Plus we all know MAD WORLD is the start of the Wii turn around not the Conduit.

Who actually cares about this crap? I'd rather play Metroid Prime 3, better yet i'd rather play Metroid Prime 1 Wii Edition. This Conduit crap looks horrible, I have something against this game. I hope it flops and sells bad.

Correction: Wii is a Gamecube on steroids and the Gamecube was a lot more capable than the PS2. Its just developers decided to focus on PS2 because it was the market leader... and what's the market leader this gen? Wii. It may not have the most powerful hardware, but what's there is incredibly efficient for what it is with little to no bottlenecks. Just like the PS2 Wii will be pushed to breaking point in the next few years and The Conduit is just the beginning.

Media Molecule is also the story of an indie studio that creates an idea, has a big corp like Sony discover it and then decides to push it to the forefront of their fall line up. The difference is that the product MM delivered truly looked fantastic. The Conduit just looks okay. Their are no cut scenes either. Its a boring text fest before you start the level. What game does THAT anymore? Yes I played the demo at the NYCC btw.

The Conduit is being over-hyped I think but it's definately a solid 8.0 game from what I can see.

It would be nice to have multiplayer on the console but getting the Online to work well with multiple modes is the main draw.

There a fair few games coming out on the Wii this year that should mean it has a much better year than 2008. Just look at this month, House of the Dead: OK, Tench 4: Shadow Assasins and Deadly Creatures all at least 8.0 games all out this month. Things have never looked brighter for the Wii.

I think you are going overboard in your defense of this game. You shoot down even logical and rational criticisms of the game as irrelevant because they are irrelevant to you. So the sheep admit the Wii NEEDS a Renaissance now? interesting...

As has been previously stated there is no local multiplayer AT ALL, this is a big step in the wrong direction. The conduit looks bad. Eye bleedingly bad. Im not sure how it can be "The wii's halo" looking like that.

Second, did anyone else see that pathetic 'tech' demo they put on. They basically stated that the game would have all the features of a last gen FPS, there was not one thing that seperated it from the pack at all. Not one interesting feature bar the moveable interface. They treid to wrap up all the standard featires of an FPS from the last 8 years and tried to make it sound exiting and new. sad.

Thirdly, has anone noticed that they seen to wrap up other standard features as new and exiting? like the use of "wii speak" (its a microphone for gods sake!) saying that will make it decent. Anyone who has been on a PC scince quake will be bored by that.

Actually, mediocre games can be fun. Mediocre is just a way of saying moderate or lower quality. TimeShift was mediocre, but I had fun playing it. However, I don't at all think that a good game can be bad. That just sounds like a contradiction.

They have every right to stake their claim. It's a solid claim. The game is obviously living up to what High Voltage claimed it would be: a fast-paced, frantic shooter where guns-a-blazing is the rule. Looks great.

What? :| How can a "Good" game be "Bad" exactly? That's an oxymoron. If a game has some bad parts, that's fine. But games aren't a single part, they're a sum of parts together, and you judge that as a whole. If as a complete game, something is good, then it's good. If it's bad, it's bad. The Conduit looks average. The -only- reason this game even gets attention, is because the devs seem to believe they're creating some form of revolution on the Wii. Unfortunately, I seriously doubt it'll be anything more than a "pretty" Wii game. Oh, and in case you were wondering, anyone can post in any thread, as long as it pertains to the topic at hand. Just because someone has a differing opinion to you, does not mean you have the right to tell them not to post.

The Conduit is being over-hyped I think but it's definately a solid 8.0 game from what I can see.

Nomad0404

8.5 bare minimum.

I mean, looking at the competition (WaW Wii), it has better graphics, controls, and sound, guranteed. The chances of the enemies being more fun to fight are at an all-time high, considering the absolute brain-dead state of the WaW enemies, so that shouldn't be an issue. So that pretty much leaves the state of online play.

Online play supports wii speak and has been confirmed to have a lobby system where you can meet up with friends (yes, friend codes), using wii speak, to take on random players. So I'll put my money on The Conduit.

So assuming Gamespot has any shred of consistency, there's really no way in hell this game gets lower than an 8.5.

split screen has been know for awhile and Nintendo wouldn't allow lan.... that dosent make you cant play games online... you like to play them for that but the blame goes on to nintendo. why do people want split screen? srsly get with the future.

Split screen hurts the game. Split screen is kind of the reason Halo's as popular as it is. It's easy to get friends into it when you're blasting aliens along side them.

LAN also hurts the game. I think Nintendo refused to allow it because it's possible to make a LAN game run online, like they did with the original Halo. That opens up a whole 'nother can of worms.

The Conduit is being over-hyped I think but it's definately a solid 8.0 game from what I can see.

Dingerious

I was thinking about that same reasoning and also concluded it should score 8.5 or better on GS if GS were consistent. Problem is, I don't see much consistency with GS and it's no secret they don't care much about the Wii to begin with.

Well, there are very few companies in this industry that have any business sense, so it's no surprise that wii doesn't get coverage equal to its userbase. Sites like GS see systems like Wii and think "casual fad crap", when instead they should be thinking "holy crap; potential 50 million and growing GS subscribers!"

To that end, it's not all their fault. If you don't want to wade through the shovelware efforts, and 3rd parties would largely rather bleed money than make good Wii games, then there's not much to cover.

I'm wondering when they will cover recent Wii titles like Tenchu, HotD:Overkill, and Deadly Creatures with reviews. CoD:WaW Wii review didn't post until a MONTH after it was released. Too little too late. Other titles follow the same pattern for Wii. Here's to hoping we won't have to wait so long for the recent Wii titles. Tonight would be great.

Bah, the article lost credability when the guy said that the Conduit would be the first game since launch that would get core gamers going. So what the hell would we call Galaxy, MP3, Brawl, and NMH?

High Voltage really needs to shut up and just try to deliver honestly. Its these types of statement that hurt devs in the long run, Dennis Dyack and neogaf anybody? They should have just tried to make a unique game instead of a shooter which we've all seen before. The only company that should even attempt a shooter on the wii is EA since they have their own online servers and thus can skip all of nintendo's sttupid online concepts.

I don't know if you've noticed, but The Conduit is head and shoulders above any other third party release on Wii.

Mad world is a better concept, style, and execution.

Perhaps to you it is. I don't find anything special about it. The best 3rd party game on the wii to this date, retail wise is:

Bread has been kind enough to point out the game tha will likely take its place.

Debatable, and still absolutely no reason to complain about High Voltage's handling of The Conduit.

Name another 3rd party title that's on par with The Conduit? Good luck.

I've just watched the Madworld demo from NYCC 2009 and it appears to have AI and clipping problems to start with- I'll still probably get both Madworld and the Conduit but I think we can be guilty of pedastalling games before they come out and often they don't live up to expectations......

Zack and Wiki is a good game, but c'mon, it's barely half the scope of The Conduit. I'm not speaking in terms of size of the environments, I'm talking total package: technology, playability, etc.

'If Nintendo, Sega and High Voltage come to an understanding, I think The Conduit could become the Halo for the Wii.'
Oh God :(Lto_thaG

Can't believe he said that.
