Hironobu Sakagushi as well as you all now created the Final Fantasy series. With this he had high authority in Square Enix. But he left the Square Enix Train and made his own studio? Was it a mistake for him to leave? I mean he was pretty special in Square Enix. He kind of holds a grudge against Square Enix. He even argued, telling them to stop rehasing Final Fantasy. Whats your opinion on him leaving SE, good or bad?

You know that he was effectively forced out, right? Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within was a financial disaster for the company.

If he got the boot, then it probably was a mistake on SE's part.

It seems other companies aren't good at forming his ideas into games. He might have had awesome games at SE, but all his mistwalker stuff can't come close.

I don't agree, but even if it was, theres literally like 5% as many good JRPGs this gen as last gen. Imagine the 360 is in its 6th year, what did the PS2 have in its first 6 years? Dozens upon dozens, you can barely count a good 2 handfulls on consoles now. LO had nice dream stories, but I didn't like much else about it. Combat was slow, with that uber long intro, even installed. Had nice music, at least. I liked Tales of Vesperia better, it was more consistent in its elements even if nothing was evolutionary. The Last Remnant on PC as well, is pretty awesome. It lacks story and characters entirely though, its purely a gameplay thing, but oh what gameplay it has.

Yes and no, Yes it was a mistake in the sense that his future games didn't have nearly as much funding or manpower to flush out his ideas well enough, but on the other hand, you could tell SE was dipping into his work more and more, especially with FFX compared to FFVII. And considering the downhill direction the series took after he left, it was probably overall best for him in terms of integrity.

The Last Remenant is probably the worst game I've ever played to be completely honest, so I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.

But gameplay? I don't know how you think LO is too slow and yet love TLR. I mean, all you did was watch long fights draw out forever with maybe a quiktime event and a few choices here and there.

I specifically said on PC for a reason, I'll assume if you hate it that much it must be on the 360. But by the end of the game when you have a party of 18 characters (made from hundreds), the amount of strategy and planning that goes into it is pretty magnificent. There are few JRPGs that have worlds that large and a combat system that goes so deep. I'm not saying its necessarily better than LO, I just had more fun with it. Though I'm the type who would prefer deep character customization and equipment systems in WRPGs over fancy cutscenes, so I love me a system I can play around with a lot. I will admit the concept of immortals in LO along with them learning skills from the regulars was nice.

Edit: responding to your edit, its long drawn out fights where you actually do need to decide what to do, the game has tons of really difficult fights. In LO its just a lot of zooming around characters.

Its not fair to count them though, because Persona 3 or 4, individually pretty much crap all over any console JRPG this gen (from what has been localized at least).

Sakaguchi would have been more productive in SE. More resources and bigger budgets for games he ever wanted to make, moreover, SE has a well established name.

Bottomline: It was SE's mistake letting him go, Sakaguchi's a legend.

I don´t think he had the choice of staying in the company even if he wanted to,but yes,I´ve said it numerous times before, him leaving was one of the worst thing that could happen to SE.

Won't deny its good, but it doesn't really compare to Valkyria. Valkyria takes SRPG in a unique direction and just about everything it excels at, graphics, sound, story, characters. Disgaea has not changed too much since its PS2 debut.

it's seriously amazing. it has sooo many improvements to the formula, the Unova region has the best locations in any pokemon game to date, the music is incredible, (another area where ruby/sapphire and diamond/pearl were sorely lacking in) and it's probably the best one in terms of the main game - it has some really neat cutscenes, fantastic graphics for a ds game, interesting story, and really neat characters. I'm in love with this game.

EDIT: a 9.5 easily.

NO.

Valkyria chonricles is 99% turn based strategy... I bought it thinking if its like ff tactics it would be awesome, turned out i was wrong, its leveling system felt like it was on train tracks and a lot of the fights turned into rock/paper/scissors I only got up to... idk there was a giant tank and a chick with a sword or something, and just got bored.

I disagree to some extent I found FFXII to be the best FF since IX. As for X I may not care for the characters but there were some interesting concepts in that title I.E the Sphere grid, FFX-2 has the best version of the ATB battle system by far.

Not really. Seems like he's doing fine in Mistwalker. He may not be making anything quite like his previous FF works but if The Last Story is any indication, he's really getting there. Im sure the FF series would be doing better with him but he had to leave S-E, after the Spirits Within catastrophe I dont think he was able to handle the shame lol.

No it wasn't... Square is just a mess right now.. Even though they weren't very good Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon were much better games than FF13.

I actually liked a lot of things from both those mistwalker games.. They showed a lot of promise.. Blue Dragon did a good job at creating the "adventure" part of a jrpg.. I just liked the way the game progressed.. It was pretty large in scale and thats what I miss about RPGs.. While it had a LOT of issues, it was a start.. And lost odyssey came out and improved upon it in a billion ways.. but still came up short, and played it a bit safe too often. But you can see he gets it and is improving his games constantly.

My guess is that he'll make an amazing RPG before square will

He already did with the last story I guess his only mistake was making it on Wii since from what I heard most of the last story problems are techinical.

[QUOTE="vadicta"]

[QUOTE="110million"]It seems other companies aren't good at forming his ideas into games. He might have had awesome games at SE, but all his mistwalker stuff can't come close. SilverChimera

Lost Odyssey is by far and away the best JRPG this gen.

Pokemon Soul Silver 8) Come at me bros

Persona 3 Portable GET SOME! (But yea Soul Silver is a great game though). As for LO I didn't care for the game all too much except for it's soundtrack and the short stories.

S-E's problem isn't Sakaguchi, it's who's writing the games these days.

the real issue with SE is that they are announcing and trying to make too many damn games at once...

the mistake of square isnt only throwing sakaguchi out, they have made alot of bad games and decisions in this and last gen.

i will give an example,

nes gen 3 final fantasies

snes gen 3 ff

psx 3 ff

ps2 2 ff

ps3 1 ff and i dont believe we are gonna see ffxv this gen

the remakes/rehashes/prequels/sequels/spin-offs are killing the company ,i dont talk about new ips like "the world ends with you" . i dont know if they dont have the firepower make great games but i am positive the company is on the verge of dieing and we are gonna see 1 huge title every 3-4 years(not just ff series)

also the mmos are bad investment for square, sure they wanted that pie,but they should have named the ff online or sth and use other devs to make it not put on hold single player ff games(that pissed off alot of fans),and after the failure ffxiv is how can this company return to what it was? not by making a final fantasy vii remake i tell u,right now if sakaguchi is not in the works of the title they will destroy it by putting a battle system similar to ffxii and make it devil may fantasy vii.jrpgs fans like the turn based system ,stay at it,jrpg fans hate innovation ,innovation brought jrpgs to this point -> incert random compile heart jrpg......
