Rumors of anAlan Wakesequel have been circling about since ... well, sinceAlan Wakeand its DLC expansions left the door wide open for one. But also since the phrase "Alan Wake 2" firstappeared on an artist's resumeback in May. Developer Remedy confirmed with Joystiq that itwas working on more Wake, though "this next Wake installment will not be Alan Wake 2," it said. "But neither will it be DLC." How appropriately mysterious! And now a rumor from Xbox World magazine says that Remedy is indeed working onAlan Wake 2, for the next-gen Xbox.

"We hear a number of Microsoft-friendly developers are hard at work on prepping next gen games as we speak. Could this be the reason why Remedy are so quiet about Alan Wake 2? (Yes)," the magazine responded to itself. "Rare, Lionhead and Turn 10 all have teams in place too. Rare, we hear, are even prototyping ideas for a new 'mature title,'" the mag adds.

We spoke with Microsoft Studios chief Phil Spencer at E3 this year, who said he read about the project on Joystiq andhad no involvement with itat that time. "I think the stuff they're doing now they wanted to incubate, Mattias and the team," Spencer said. "They wanted to incubate internally. Like I said, I don't think they've signed it with anybody." Spencer also insisted that Microsoft Studios had no next-gen games in development and was instead completely focused on Xbox 360 and Kinect software.

I think we speak for everyone (in the world) when we say that we don't care which platformAlan Wake 2comes out on, just so long as it has a killer multiplayer deathmatch mode. We're kiddingjoystiq

My opinion it could go either way.

Hope that this is true, loved the first one a lot. This and Rare potentially not working on more shovelware are getting me pretty excited, but im trying not to get my hopes up.

*Yawn*. That quote is very old...
Also they said they are making a new Alan Wake game but its not Alan Wake 2, so your thread title is bogus alreadd. Its most likely a spin off game and I highly doubt Remedy would want a spin off game to be their first title on a new console. Oh also, the longer quote states that only a "slice of our team' is working on the new project, so again most likely not Alan Wake 2.

Shame they didn't bring the first one. Always liked Remedy's work on Max Payne and Max Payne 2.

This Xbox World crowd are making a lot of bold predictions as of late.

I don't think the first ones sales will warrant a sequel even though I loved the freaking hell out of it.

Shame, but I can't see it happening. I just hope the oft rumoured XBLA Alan Wake spin-off with Kinect support NEVER rears it's ugly head.

That information is from this past E3, so I'm not seeing any real new intel, other than speculation. I heard more recently that an Alan Wake XBLA title is probable. I think Remedy would do better to not put themselves and us through another five-six year gaming development cycle without maximizing their efforts from Wake. They did two Max Payne games, and it would be nice if they got to do another game this gen, even if it wasn't Wake.

Remedy would be better off making an AW2 with current engine and assets OR an new IP with current engine and assets for this gen, especially since Wake lacked a LOT of polish that a sequel could rectify. I was one of the biggest Remedy fans and hugest supporters of Alan Wake on SW, until I got home and played it and realized while it was a good game, it wasn't nearly what it should have been.

One of the biggest disappointments this gen. They have alot of work if they want this game to not turn out a failure like the first.

I'd imagine they'd use a souped up engine of the one they used for Alan Wake.

I can't be sure it was the same one they ended up using on the Xbox, but when Alan Wake was bound for the PC, it was a completely different game and the engine was capable of doing some pretty amazing things.

They had to stunt it to make it work on the 360. That is, as I said, if it is indeed the same engine in some shape or form.

I'll try and find a vid.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8gnWEYxks-QGranted, this is running on a quad core PC, something the 720 will almost certainly not have, but optimisation can do wonders these days

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U_M6TiNfvwk- This one is quite poor quality but you get the gist of it. Also, bear in mind this is from over six years ago.

I liked the first a lot and it's a shame it didn't sell too well. Whoever decided on the release date for it is an idiot.

I really enjoyed Alan Wake a lot so I really hope Remedy gets a chance to make a true sequel. It would be awesome if Alan Wake 2 was a launch game for the next gen Xbox and it was more of an open world game like the original was supposed to be. That would be sweet! Just highly unlikely unfortunately.

Not even the atmosphere? Anyway, I'd like to know what Jeff Gerstman has to say about this after being adamant that the first one would never come out :P

Not even the atmosphere?

The atmosphere was good, but the enemies abslutley killed it by saying things like "Low fat beef is good for your heart!" or whatever. I understand that the people were supposed to be reliving their past lives but damn hearing stuff like that made me laugh and completley killed the atmosphere.

Seriously what is up with system wars turning disappointments into complete nuclear disasters of epic proportion? It's a good spooky game, kinda dry but original in it's own way.

I thought it was pretty freaky instead of your usual grunting and groaning like in typical zombie-ish games.

Beleive me, I wanted to love the game. I am a huge horror fan. But Alan Wake just didn't impress me. The atmosphere was the best part of the game, and that was killed by the Taken. The story is also vastly overrated.

Seriously, I like the idea of the taken saying things, but I think the devs could have thought up something better. Or maybe it's just one of those ideas that soudns good on paper but is just campy in execution.

Alan Wake was a really great game and I"m glad MS is supporting Remedy for the sequel.
