what we know: its been delayed over and over again due to problems with the story. and they wont be making any announcements about it until they are certain they have a crisp story.

btw its codename is ricochet2

I'd imagine the story to be th biggest barrier, just ahead of the engine and gameplay (which would need to be updated to fit modern standards).

With HL games, technically the experience is completely unbroken since the first game. They leave you on this giant cliffhanger with Gordon passing out and a set goal, and I can see how they would have trouble finding a way to pull it all together, especially when there's so many loose threads clinging from all the past installments.

I mean, who is the G-Man? What happened to Adrian Shepherd? Where does Aperture fit in all this? Will we ever see Chell or Glados in the series? What's going to happen to the resistance now? What's up with the Borealis? Is Barney alive?

So many questions, and they can't just keep on making more questions or they end up with a mess of a story that would rival Lost towards the latter seasons.

Well, got to give them credit they haven't released it yet just because of story problems. Good thing to know they won't release it till it's ready.

I got a feeling we will see a new engine, and a Mid 2013 (tentative) release date.

Thats my bet, maybe a surprise HL2 EP3 announcement at E3 for Autumn/Winter this year.

Ya know they really need to release this game before within the next 2 years it becomes the joke of the industry.

I know taking your time is sweet and all and I completely understand.

But going on 6 years is a little much OB released in what 07?

It would be *amazing* if he was actually talking about Ricochet 2.

Also, we kind of already knew that the last Half-Life game was in development...but Valve are perfectionists with their main franchise, and anyone who has read about the developments of Half-Life 1 or 2 should know that they're totally fine with scrapping whole game concepts again and again until they get it right.

Personally, at this point I'll be just as excited to read about the development of 'Half-Life 3' as I would be to actually play it. They must have some interesting stories to tell after 4+ years of development.

Many people do. Half-Life is a single player shooter. Its main focus is story and storytelling. It's not like CoD or something where the goal is to shoot the f*** out of everything and all the game has is crappy mp and a crappy campaign.

So what's so good about it's story? It's simply a "secret experiment went wrong, aliens attacking, goverment conspiracy, try to survive" thing.

HL2 wasnt even a good game, it was mediocre as, it hid behind its graphics and physics

the beta was miles better, but Valve didnt want to finish it off so they just cut it in half and shipped an unfinshed buggy mess

GabeN doesn't rise and shine, he works from bed as his team of personal butlers and slaves feed him cheetos and fine carbinated beverages.

Yes, both games. I enjoyed the gameplay but didn't care about the story.

Very much looking forward to Valve releasing this game. Also looking forward to Left for Dead 3. Both this year would be splendid Mr GabeN please.

I'm not sure I can think of a game that will receive the kind of hype HL3 will get. It's going to be one of the biggest game releases of all time.

I really enjoyed Half Life 2 so I'm pretty stoked about this one.

If they are having problems with it, the game better still be in the making. Better release it in a good shape.

I have a feeling that this is all going to lead to bitter dissapointment. Half Life 3 ANNOUNCED AT E3!!! ADS, Cod-Like Mission structure and Create-A-Class Multiplayer. Since Valve have begun development, the shooter genre has changed drastically. I would love a old-school Half Life style shooter at the minute, but I'm not going to get my hopes up.

Yeah, there are way too few HL-style shooters. Shooters with a worthwhile campaign that lasts longer than 6 hours, shooters that let you use medpacks and let you carry a whole armory of weapons with you.

But you are right, it's way too early to get our hopes up. They aren't even past the "it's too soon to talk about this game" stage:(
