Is it me....or is sony trying so much to acquire a trademark shooter thats its lost interest in its other games....Really, they won the last 2 platform wars without any shooters......but this time they have concentrated so much on a shooter they have basically failed in the other game genres.

sony wants to add variety to their conoles just like MS. sony's lacks shooters so they go out of their way to get shooters. MS lackes RPG so they go out of their way to get RPG's which they have done.Ragashahs

Not only can you not spell, but you also make no sense. Failed in other genres? If anything, it seems Sony has conquered other genres and is now looking to do the same with first person shooters.

I would hardly call MGS a shooter....you could beat that game (not including boss battles of course) w/o firing a single bullet.

The point of MGS is to use STEALTH, and not kill anyone (or try to), except bosses.

no they have shooting elements. but the core of the game isn't about "shooting" stuff. games like gears, killzone, halo, ut3, haze are shooters.

they realise that almost all of their great exclusives are jumping ship to the 360, and thus are desperately in need of an exclusive killer app

too bad they are putting their faith in a devleoper like guerilla and a franchise like killzone.....a damn shame.

anyhow, the TC is nuts... there's an ample list of upcoming ps3 games which ps users are anticipating... although i just looked at the list and most of them have guns in it...

shootersseem to bebig at the moment, and theyve got plenty of non shooters out or on the way. sony are no more shooter mad than microsoft. i do also find it difficult to take the oppinion of anyone who spells fail with a ph seriously.

You have gone crazy by assuming too much. I don't think they're very good games anyway. They're CG movies more than anything. The story was far too crazy imo. I want to see Kojima make a feature motion picture, either live action or CG. It's what he's good at.

Most of the gameplay consists of shooting enemies. Lair also seems to be a lot of shooting but it has the dragon on dragon close quarters combat which is really cool. FF13 has some sort of guns in it and shooting but we don't know if the player is controlling the shooting directly or if it's just an attack command you pick each time.

That's why I said "I don't think...".

I personally don't enjoy playing MGS but I understand that many people do and that's great. I also try to keep in mind that these are the same people that believed the E3 2005 Killzone trailer was real-time/gameplay.

One of my friends is a very blind Sony fanboy and every time I attempt to talk to him about anything Sony it's extremely frustrating. He's also a huge MGS fan and really just a fan of anything from Japan (big big FF fan too). I was a big fan of Sony until I started seeing all the choices they were making with PS3 which I consider to be mistakes.

I almost bought one yesterday until I realized by the time I buy the 60gig, a game, an hdmi cable, an extra controller, and whatever else I end up getting it's still well over 600 or 700 dollars. Console gaming needs to stay around $300 as the high end or we're going to run into big problems. At $600 someone really should just think about getting a PC.

Oh and it must be a typo but I do think MGS is a "fanchise". They can make crap if they want and people will buy it then say it's a 10/10.

No kidding. Microsoft's lineup, even the games that aren't FPS still feature guns, space suits, aliens being shot by gun-toting guys in space suits. Before Xmas some of the biggest-hyped Sony games are going to be out, and they are anything but shooters.

If they deliver on Killzone they have every base covered, and the best lineup in videogames. It seems Sony keeps releasing info on new, exciting games, while Microsoft keeps repeating BioShock, Mass Effect, Halo 3. All will be amazing games, I'm sure, but it's time for something new to get excited about.
