Home is free, XBL isn't. I think the only fools in this thread are people that are paying even more to play the full potential of their games.
It could be really interesting if Sony develops it correctly. The 3d interface... I don't see the value of it in terms of fucntionality. The only advantage is cool-factor. If they mean it to be a boon for advertising, that's making a huge assumption that lots of people will be using the optional interface extensively.
The social networking functionality is nice... like the live blogging... that's awesome. Sharing media... I don't see a longlasting benefit.
Will the functions found in Home be accessible through the XMB? If not, then that sucks for poeple that really don't want to use it.
We'll have to see

Yay, for personalizing our systems and adding to games, not decking out a fictional apartment!Care to give a reason behind your assumption?
It's like a combination of Myspace and Second Life, and look at how popular both of those are... Because of that, I think Home will be a system seller...
Osafune24
But Myspace and Second Life aren't used to access all the other functions of your PC.
Home's useability and benefit will determine how successful it becomes.

Well, a lot of the uses will go unused by me but the core uses will get tons. 1. Chatting with the community. 2. Playing HOME games (Pool, Bowling) and checking out advertisement areas made by devs. 3. Meeting up with friends and jumping straight into PS3 games. That's all I really care about.Ibacai
My question is this....
How does Sony make money from Home? You would think it'd come from 2 sources:
Microtransactions... I mean, will people buy that much stuff to become a significant source of revenue for Sony?
Advertising... the problem here is that Home is optional. So already, it's not guaranteed that advertisers will reach their target audience. If there's less of a guarantee, how much effort will advertisers put into their ad spaces.... assuming they want to advertise in Home at all.
So...uh.... how will Sony make up the cost in maintining this persistent 3d world?

Most of the things Cows hype about Home, the 360 already does better and for FREE! Like chatting with friends. Only, on Live, you can do it while playing 2 completely different games, either singleplayer or online, watching a movie, or listening to music..... How could you think Home is better? B/c they arent forcing you to pay to play? That only lowers the quality of the experience...I dont understand how cows can call Home, a game, a service, and XBL killer... It cant be all 3 b/c XBL only serves to enhance your gaming experience not intrude upon it...[QUOTE="Eddie-Vedder"][QUOTE="VoodooHak"][QUOTE="wolverine4262"][QUOTE="xDonRobx"][QUOTE="StephenKing_1"][QUOTE="Osafune24"]Care to give a reason behind your assumption?

I'm sorry but Home is free and looks to be better than live which costs $50... a YEAR!! Sorry every PS3 owner who has a online connection will try home. Many will love it, some might not, but guess what? It's free so no harm no fowl. No matter what they can still play all of their online games without spending a dime.
You fail on so many levels. You loose.
Mileage will vary.
Me personally , I am going to go in and create my avatar and decorate my pad and spend some time in there playing some of the games , seeing the sites , and talking with people , and looking at my trophies. I think that will all be new and fun for the first week or two.
After that , I will probably be stopping by once in a while to mess around and look around. If they create some game specific lobbies I can see myself there a lot more. I could see it being a good clan hangout before games , between games , or after games.

because home is 3d... thus making it much cooler and more technologically adanced than myspace
So.... questions about trophies....
Are they viewable outside of Home? Or do I have to go a person's "apartment" to view them?
Are they retroactive to launch games, or are almost a year's worth of games just screwed?
If I decide to make a new account, will my past trophies follow me to my new account?

They already said they will have zones for diferente game dev/publishers, so you´ll be able to go back every once in a while and see new trailers play new demos and stuff like that, they even said they would have world premeirs over home so that´s going to rock, they even talked about conferences, imagine sitting your dude in a theater and watching E3 live or something, it a really cool idea for consoles.
Hey, Im not trying to say Home will be a bad thing, but you lost me with the second paragraph... THe reason I am the way I am toward it is b/c cows think its somehow better that Live when they arent even the same thing.... THe quality of Home depends on community support and Sonys follow through.... No doubt it could be great, but its not Live, its different...Why dose it concern you?

"Improving" is relative. I praise Sony in that they're trying. But if they don't think this all the way through, then those improvements don't mean a thing.

But what if I don't want to leave a game. Let's say I'm playing Lair and chatting with someone playing Ninja Gaiden Sigma. What if I just want to pause Lair, take a look at that person's trophies real quick and get back into my game right away?

I wish I had an answer but looking at it realistcally I doubt that will be there from day one, LIVE is very well built, but it took time, the ps3 online service will take a while to get up to par, I´m pretty sure they will get their, but we shouldn´t fool ourselves thinking it´ll be perfect from day 1. We have to remember it´s a work in progress, it´s still in beta so.

I love how frecking retarded lemmings pretend to be all the time.
Whenever a disscussion about some great feature or game on the PS3 is brought up, a stupid lemming comes up and says :o Aint worth $500-$600. as if the PS3 is only composed of that one thing.
for example
Blu-ray is awsome to watch HD movies on for PS3. lemming :o "aint worth $600 for a movie player"
HDMI... "aint woth $600 just to have HDMI"
Web Browser..."aint worth $600 just for a web browser"
Backward compatibility..."aint woth $600..."
60GB..."aint worth $600.." (even tho it's $500 now)
Keybaord and Mouse...same
OS...same
MGS4 will be a great exclusive game in the PS3 collection. Lemming :o "aint worth $600 for one game"
Little big Planet...same
Ratchet....same
FFXIII...yep that too
Heavenly Sword...uh huh
Killzone2...even this
Tekken 6....
WarHawk...
GT5...
Uncharted...
 and now some moron seems to think the only thing the PS3 can do in an online myspace, which is of course what I'd be spening my $600 ( $500) on a PS3 for? Is it any wonder whyother people think of this fanbase as a bunch of tools?
*edit*
if Casey wanted to put something into his myths thread he should have put in that one. But he somehow forgot to harp on the BS threads, lies and slanderous comments made by lemmings against PS3 and the whole of it's fanbase.

Today you see millions of people playing online games whether they be mmos or console games with online function, and you see people communicating a lot on them ,whether it be for help, coordinating some team strategy etc. Furthermore, today you see the mass use of social sites like my space and facebook for social communication. People spend hours on these sites sprucing up their pages, and posting comments, talking to friends etc. People also spend hours playing online games. Home is the meeting point between these two functions, which only seem to be growing in strength. With home, your doing the same thing you would do with a myspace or facebook, excepts it's more interactive and you'll come in contact with a lot of people who sure a common interest in games, even specific types, as "lounges" were mentioned at the e3 conference. Furthermore, it seems you can meet people easily and easily just start playing an online game against someone whom you may not have on your friends list. Because of these aspects, I really think it's going to be very sucessful.
