After reading the many reviews that criticize R3 for both good and bad reasons, I feel the need to acknowledge something here on Gamespot. The first thing you'll notice when playing R3's single player campaign is the cutscene that describes the events of the two prior games. After playing for a good while, R3 is seriously a jack of all trades. In most FPS's out today, the story seems to be diminished by the overall delivery of the plot, and also the execution of the climax. R3 seems to be the first FPS in a long time to capture the emotions of the main protagonist. While these emotions are kept to a minimum, it keeps the gamer in a relate-able, yet far fetched scenario. This is one of those rare games that has an amazing atmosphere. The weapons and gunplay have a very satisfying feel to them as well. This is overall one of the best FPS of this gen and should be recognized for being what almost every other FPS out there isn't. It's rewarding to see this game get an 8.5, yet somewhat confusing when you see some other games this year get 9.0 (e.g Dead Space 2). While I personally find this game to easily be a AAA title, it is hard for me to see the logic of an 8.5. I highly recommend to anyone that has a PS3 and is skeptical of this game to at least rent it. This is what a FPS should be like. In my opinion, this is the new standard in FPS gaming.

As for Resistance 3, I've got a quick question. Would you say it's more like the first game in atmosphere in pacing or the second one? I really loved the first title, but was really disappointed by the second one so it's really a deal-breaker for me. I do like that you can hold many weapons at once and that your health doesn't regenerate, though.

i'd say r3 is clearly a better game than ds2, and that's not saying ds2 is bad at all! r3 seems to be more like the 1st, but only slightly. it feels like a completely different game and does every single thing very well. i feel you about r2, when i played it, i was grossed out how much they had changed it. it seemed to try so hard, yet deliver so little.
I never interest in the Resistance series but I might rent R3.

my advice to you is to go and rent it as soon as possible! you will definitely fall for this game. even the pickiest players who always try to find something wrong with a game will be surprised. i can see why people would not like uncharted, gears, or halo, but this one seems to be a very lovable game that's hard to dislike.

i personally didnt like dead space 2 and it dont deserve a 9 in my books. i think its a complete rip off of bioshock. its like all the aspects of bioshock were just copied and that made dead space. i didnt like bioshock either so its not like am picking sides...
TC, Insomniac said the AI is unscripted. Is that true ?

hmm idk, but the AI is some of the best I've seen. They hide behind objects, go around buildings to reach you, they flank you, they crouch down to avoid being hit, they sneak up up on you as well. but they aren't so smart that you won't have fun, but you will certainly have to think before you go around a corner. I like seeing through walls with the auger gun, because you see them hiding or running around in ways you'd expect
