competition and variety is what drives the games industry
think of it this way, can you imagine the movie industry/business being as big as it now with only spielberg movies, variety is needed in every business.
Most people don't think that deeply. System hate is just a knee jerk reaction. One of those "Us vs. Them" sort of things like religious debaters and sports fans.
I own a PS2, Wii, Gamecube, 360, I'm no fanboy. Yet I think Sony has messed around with gamers to much with PS3. Setting the price to $600 then telling people to get a job to pay for it was a kick in the teeth. Add in the BC mess in Europe which means most of my PS2 games will not play properly without "issues". Plus the fact MS are kicking there ass at the moment and bringing all the major games to 360, and I think PS3 deserves to do poorly.
PS3 is not bringing anything to the table, so I don't see why gamers should want it to sell well.
Sony deserves to die for what it's done to other consoles in the past -- that and all the brutal lies we've been force fed over the years.Angry words.
If you're a Sony fan then you probably cheered / don't weep over the dreamcast failing -- so seriously just shut it. You reap what you sow -- /thread.

Competition brings out the best in what develepors can do to their products. If their was only one game console or some form of entertainment, It would gradually decline in quality and will be very poor because of the product doesnt have to worry about failing sales due to no competitive rival. So basically I want both the 360,PS3 and Wii to do very well and release multiplats if possible to compete for the gamer's dollars.TheSolution3kThe PS1 and PS2 have been dominate for so long that they have declined in quality, and Sony is now assuming that people will pay any amount of money for something that says Playstation on it, using it as a trojan horse for their Blu-Ray drive. The PS3 failing is what happens when competition is succesful. Competition doesn't mean the systems split the market - it means that the inferior competitior gets relegated to being a niche player eventually. Next time (PS4) maybe Sony will do a better job and regain some of their market - only this time they'll have to fight tooth-and-nail for it, rather than letting people like Kaz make assumptions.

"Honestly Why would andy true gamer want a system to fail"
Beacuse developer of that system treated gamers as morons, with very short memory? If Sony wins in this generation they will still treat us bad, very bad. Do you want it? Oh by the way: I'm european. Today we got the BC list for PS3: no MGS2, Okami, Bully, FFX, FFX-2. As far as I remeber Kaz said that they where aiming for 100% BC. Yeah, right.

Because we want all the games but can only afford one of the consoles. If someone gets a 360, they miss out on MGS4 and FF13. They get a PS3, they can't enjoy Gears of War, Crackdown, etc. And if I get a Wii, none of those games are avaialble to me.
Honestly, 100% serious, no joking my theory is that when people "align" themselves with a console/company, they want the other to fail because they think that their console/company winning would be like a personal victory for them. I don't apply this theory for everyone, but I think it explains a fraction of the population what want companies to fail. A small fraction.
My other theory is that it's out of pettiness. Subject A like PS, Subject B likes X-Box. B tells A that PS sucks and he's stupid for liking it. This breeds contempt. When bad news about X-box emerges A retaliates with "Ha! Your crappy console is failing!" This situation repeats, alternates and so on. eventually people are hating a brand and hoping it will fail for reasons they can't even remembers. Hate for the sake of Hate. Again, this doesn't apply to everyone... hell it might not apply to anyone. But It's how I explain all the harsh vibes to myself.
Well, you have to look at it from a different perspective. Its not that these console developers are our best friends and are making these consoles out of the good will of their hearts just so we can have the most awesome gaming experience ever. No, they are giant corporations looking for one thing: profit. Lots of it.Â
Thus, I, as a gamer, look at the things that the corporations are doing and say "are they doing this to enhance the gaming experience (ie - for my benefit) or so they can rake in more money (for their benefit)?"Â
When I see Sony charging me $600 for their gaming console, forcing me to pay for a Blu-Ray player that does pretty much nothing to enhance the gaming experience, I take a stand against that. Blu-Ray is all about them forcing a format on us for (a) their other endevors (movies) and (b) for copy protection from pirates.
Nintendo repackages the Gamecube and throws on the motion sensing controller, I see that as a gimmick. When they totally ignore the advancements in HD graphics, online gameplay, etc. I take a stand against that. $250 for a repackaged Gamecube? No freakin' way. When the other 2 guys are willing to take a loss on each console sold, in order to get the price point of their consoles as low as possible, yet Nintendo is charging us more than what it takes to make their console, that doesn't sit well with me.
Do I want these guys to fail? No, but by not buying their products, I am basically telling them that I don't agree with their business practices.
